I am Sylvie, your welcoming and enthousiast host.
In my daily life I work as an interior architect in my own little company.
I am doing airbnb since July 2015 (yes recently!) and I must say, I LOVE IT! I could even say it changed my live.
I used to travel a lot and I saw home (Ghent) as just a hob to work and leave as soon as possible again. Whenever I was in Belgium I was dreaming of exotic places far away. This made me forget to enjoy the moment I was living.
Hosting and having guests made me look at my city trough different eyes, like I am discovering everything myself for the first time. Hosting made me love my city again. When I look up the enlighted churches, when I sit in a local bar sipping a home grinded coffee, when I feel the rythms of a local band playing in this little bar, when I ride my bike over the cobbled streets... I feel the love for my city sparkle up. Having guests made me feel at home again.
I think the aim of travelling should be happiness. And how could we achieve happiness? In my eyes conneting with people gives happinness. It's not seeing the 10th monument that day. So travelling should be about connecting. About feeling at home. Anywhere. Belong anywhere.
I want my guests to feel at home. I want them to feel like a local, not just a traveller or visitor. I want them to feel the warm hearts. I want them to love my city just as much as I do. I love it to take my guests with me, to get to know them, to see how they look at the world. To introduce them to my friends. To have a great time. Together. To connect.
