We are Leo and Rachel, a friendly and accommodating couple and are both Londoners born and bred. We enjoy going out and getting involved in London's rich culture, so we're are happy to help you if you have any questions about what to see and do.

Restaurants and Cafes:

Putney has a large selection of international restaurants; Thais, Indians, Goan, Chinese, French, Italians, Sushi places, all within easy reach of the flat on the Upper and Lower Richmond Roads- see 'guidebook' section for some tips. At the end of the road itself are 5 or 6 restaurants, an upmarket supermarket, ‘Waitrose’, (renowned for being the chain that supplies the Royal family with some of their groceries), and where you can get coffee and snacks should you need to pick up a quick sandwich on your way to the tube and London’s tourist sites.

The "local” is called 'The Prince of Wales', its very nice and is popular with young locals. There are many other pubs nearby, other favourites include 'The Bricklayers Arms', with a set of old fashioned Victorian games to try, and 'The Jolly Gardeners', which does a mean Sunday Roast.

As well as being a top residential area Putney is also a shopping district and has convenient shops you might need- banks, supermarkets, dry cleaners, clothes stores, hairdressers. A lot of these are located on the 'High Street' or in Putney Shopping Centre at the end of the High Street near the River Thames.

As well as being a thriving modern district Putney also has historical links- King Henry VIII's most tyrannical chancellor Thomas Cromwell grew up in Putney and so it is majorly featured in Hilary Mantel's novel 'Wolf Hall'. Later, in the 16th century, another Cromwell-Oliver Cromwell- wrote Putney into the history books by holding, 'The Putney Debates' at St Mary's Church by the bridge. These famous discussions between Lord Oliver Cromwell and the Levellers are credited as being a crucial step towards creating legal rights for the common man in Britain and towards future democracy. Oliver Cromwell was also responsible for the be-heading of Charles I- the only King in British history to have his head chopped off!

Putney has excellent transport links into Zone 1 and all the major sites of London. The nearest underground station is East Putney Tube -a 5 minute walk- (end of the road and turn right onto Upper Richmond Road). It is on the district line (Zone 2) with regular trains every 4-6 minutes into Zone 1 and with direct trains to Westminster (for Big Ben/ the London Eye.) Putney Mainline Train Station is also 5 mins walk on Putney High Street and goes into Waterloo (for the National Theatre/Southbank/ bridge to Trafalgar Square/Tate Modern), and also out of London towards Windsor (for Windsor Castle) and Hampton (for Henry VIII’s Hampton Court Palace).

Leo and Rachel were friendly hosts and pleasant to talk to. The flat was clean and the bed was comfortable. The internet was really fast, which made it easy for me to get work done. We were also allowed to have space in the fridge for food and use the washing machine. The neighbourhood felt safe and there were a lot of eating places and supermarkets nearby. The flat is close to East Putney tube station, which made it convenient to travel to central London. Overall, my sister and I had a comfortable stay and we would recommend Leo's place. :)

Leo's place is great. Leo is a fantastic host and very easy to communicate with. Putney is a nice, quaint part of London. I recommend Prince of Wales to grab a bite or drink. It's pretty easy to get to central London too, as the flat is around the corner from the East Putney tube station. Would recommend!

Great space for the money in Putney. Comfortable bed in a residential area just a short walk from train, tube, restaurants and bars. If you are just looking for somewhere to sleep and a shower, this is for you. Didn't get to meet our hosts as they were away for the weekend so had the place to ourselves. No breakfast or anything included in this one but that wasn't an issue for us and we were left a message that we could use anything in the kitchen if we wanted. Bought some milk and teabags and that was it for us. Lots of plane noise but that is part of staying in this part of London. We would stay again as we were visiting nearby and there are really good transport links into London. Thanks Leo

We had a very comfortable stay at Leo's place. Even though it was freezing outside, the flat was always warm, had a comfy bed and good water pressure in the shower, which I don't often find at accommodation in London. The flat was close to both East Putney and Putney station and there are many buses available as well so it is easy to get around. Also the host was very friendly and easy to communicate with. Only downside was there isn't a lift so just be careful if you have heavy luggages. I would definitely recommend the place :)
