I am available for questions and am always happy to help. I love sharing my knowledge of the city, this can range from making a list of musts (shops, restaurants, bars, etc.) to taking you around to some of my fave spots. My goal is to make your visit is as comfortable as possible and help provide some delightful, unique experiences.
Malasaña is one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in Madrid. It was at the heart of the post Franco counter cultural revolution La Movida Madrileña. La Movida was an explosion of art, music, film and fashion at once transgressive and free and dark and dangerous. Pedro Almovodar´s early films (think Pepi, Luci, Bom and Other Girls on the Heap/Women on the Verge of A Nervous Breakdown) which nicely capture the spirit of that time and the energy of this neighborhood. With its eclectic mix of mom and pop stores, art galleries, vintage stores, cafes, bars and terrazas this part of Malasaña has a lively, yet mellow vibe. And unlike many other parts of the city this neighborhood has three tree lined plazas which means no fighting the crowds or tourists for a seat and the possibility of cool shade on a hot summer day. If you are interested in getting a taste of Madrid life and out of the tourist bubble (but close enough to check out the main sights) this is the area for you. Current favorite spots: Crumb a delicious sandwich joint, MUR cafe for the quiet cafe vibe, and De Vinos for one of the best selections of Spanish wines in the city. There´s also an amazing bread shop Panic right on Conde Duque and just next door a fantastic cheese shop Queseria Cultivo
You can walk everywhere. You can roam around the maze-like streets of Malasaña or stroll down the tree lined boulevards that border it. The nearest metro stations are San Bernardo, Plaza de España, and Arguelles and a public bike service is just around the corner.
Treat my house as you would treat your own. Do remember it is a home and not a hotel, so please pick up after yourself. If you have any questions just ask! When leaving do kindly strip the bed and place all the linens in the washing machine. The garbage can goes out every night at 19, if full please take it down to the can which will be right out front with number 19 on it. There are two recycling bins one set on Calle Conde Duque to the right and the other on Calle Balthesar Garcian to the left. Enjoy the quiet in the bustling center.
