55 pristine acres, 3 porches, views from every room, large wood-burning pizza oven. A cook's paradise. 5 minutes from Carey Center and Huyck Preserve. Relaxation nooks everywhere. The town is the most adorable thing ever: no stoplight or ATM. Giant nature preserve - hiking, trail running, waterfalls, and swimming in a quiet no-motorboat lake.
NOTE: we have no internet in the house and there is no AT&T cell service on our hill. (Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile all work.)
Built in 1890, our house sleeps nine in four bedrooms, each with a spectacular view of the land. There are two bathrooms, both with tubs, one claw-foot. There is an open kitchen with a vintage six-burner stove, wrap-around window seat overlooking the garden, wood burning stove, and a large sitting area. You'll eat well: our kitchen is tricked out with great cookware and knives, and we have a wood-fired pizza oven in the back yard. The formal dining room seats eight to ten comfortably with a napping bench to the side for sleepy kids.
Outside there are three porches attached to the house for lounging. Prefer a hammock? We have two big ones under a grove of Cottonwood trees. There is a large mown field with croquet, Adirondack chairs, and views of the rolling fields where cows graze and geese come in for dramatic landings.
With two ponds, four barns, and 55 acres of pristine pasture, woods, and creeks, you can wander the mown paths for hours. There is abundant wildlife, but not a neighbor in sight.
There is a large vegetable garden, contained by a ring of sunflowers; in the summer it is full of tomatoes and greens.
One mile away is the cutest little town you've ever seen plus 2,000 acre nature preserve with endless hiking trails, the magical Rensselaerville Falls, and Lake Myositis where you can swim or kayak without the put-put of motorized boats.

I'm a food writer and ceramicist living in Brooklyn, New York. I have two Airbnb properties so I'm well aware of what it takes to be a good guest (and host). I travel often and love getting to know the local side of a place.
