Double bedroom in a converted barn set in open countryside 6 miles (approx. 12 to 15 minutes drive) from Durham city. The price is £40 per night for the double room, this includes your own private shower/toilet and use of our kitchen at any time. If you want complete privacy then look up "quiet, secluded - close to Durham" in any search engine and you'll find our other Airbnb place which is only 30 metres from our home. It costs more but it is self contained and can sleep up to four people.

Die Unterkunft
Double bed for two, includes wi-fi, TV and full access to our kitchen.

Zugang für Gäste
Guests have full use of the bedroom and shower, all are welcome to mooch around the garden and, for those with dogs, we have a seven acre field to do a bit of stick chucking. Stick provided ;-)

Weitere wichtige Hinweise
The place is on a slight incline giving all round panoramic views, a car is essential really as it's a mile walk to the bus stand. It does get really dark in the late evening as we have no street lights - we love it. We aren't 'traditional' B&Br's, but who is on Airbnb, and regrettably we can't provide you with a greasy start to the day but we can point you in the direction of an acceptable place for your fry-up should you need one - week days only tho'.

Lage

County Durham, England, Vereinigtes Königreich

There are 6 residences only, one farm and five barns, so it's fairly quiet - we like it that way. There is a popular Indian Restaurant, The Mumbai, in Haswell Plough (check reviews on tripadvisor). To walk takes about 15 minutes - take a torch (we can provide one) or 2 minutes by car. A second popular 'pub grub' style eatery is also close by, 4 minutes by car.

There are loads of places to visit - Durham Cathedral and Castle, Seaham Harbour (for seaglass & Tommy), Beamish open air museum, Hartlepool Maritime museum, Sunderland National Glass Museum are a just a few interesting places nearby.

Nature lovers will also love how close we are to the stunning Castle Eden Dene Nature reserve which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, it is a series of deep ravines and is the largest area of semi-natural woodland in the north-east of England. Also the beautiful Hawthorn Dene, which is managed by the Woodland Trust has walks of varying distance. You can walk through the Dene to a deserted bay where you can find sea glass (depending on the tide) and the village pub serves a reasonably priced lunch. The cosy bar has a log burner and welcomes dogs (always a welcome bit of info)!
Durham, Sunderland, Newcastle, Darlington and Middlesbrough are all easy to get to.
With vibrant cities, stunning coastline, a rich local heritage and areas of outstanding natural beauty on the doorstep, you’ll always have lots of ways to spend your free time.
The famous Durham Heritage Coastline is just a few miles away and its stunning National Nature Reserve. Packed with natural and historical highlights around every headland, it is a great place to explore and enjoy the fresh sea air. The popular coastal town of Seaham is a 15 minute drive away.
The North York Moors National Park and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty both make fantastic days out and are both easy to get to.

Pauline - (written by Bill) is the business end of the partnership. Dr P, as she is known in certain circles, has left the health service but now works even harder than before. When she isn't running her shop she can be found organising rental properties, up-cycling furniture, knitting, sewing, glass painting and constantly cleaning - anything that's dirty! She never switches on the TV, leaving me at least one daily task to carry out. Bill - we're both from Billy Elliot country, well, that's where they shot a good part of the movie, in Easington Colliery, County Durham UK. Our favourite destinations include Scotland and the Greek Islands. I also like Japan. Other things you don't really need to know about me, I could be thinner but lack will power, I could be younger but was born a bit too early to qualify.
