Take the family or friends for a journey back in time to when steam trains were the greatest symbol of human achievement, technology, power and luxury. Steam is a Victorian era train carriage converted to a 3 bedroom holiday house.
The train is ideal for 2 to 4 people, but can sleep six. See more on sleeping configurations below, and make sure it is right for you.
Just renovated and listed July 2015, Steam is very much in early inception and recommended only for the adventurous.
The carriage was used as a workshop, when the original owner was building the house next door. When we started renovating, the carriage did not have enough intact to restore it, so we have developed our own style that is vaguely steam-punk influenced.
It has taken nine months to renovate the train from a pretty ragged start. Almost every surface had to have something done to it, and we found that carriages were really tightly put together (all that rattling) and hard to pull apart. When we did get panels off, we had no idea what we would find. We completely stripped and rewired the electrical, and did plumbing from scratch. Renovating anything over 100 years will have its challenges, but this was exceptional. It was opened for guests in July 2015. It is still a work in progress, there is a lot more to do before it reaches our vision, but we have been astounded by it's popularity.

Steam, certainly wont be for everyone, but we have had great feedback from the young and the young at heart. There seems to be a great fondness for the "Great Age of Steam", when locomotives were king! In the late 1800's trains were the greatest technological achievement of humans, they opened new horizons, and were a symbol of power and progress. We hope we have tapped in to this, and we're excited to be able to share it with guests.

It can sleep six people, but two to four would be more comfortable. The two small bed rooms were train seating compartments, only 2.1m square, so they are only just longer than a bed. The rooms are close together, the bath room is between the kids and second bedroom and there is not a lot of audio insulation. You can hear what is happening in the next compartment.
It is ideal for:
•A couple, with the whole train for themselves it is pretty spacious.
•A couple and two kids.
It should work well for:
•A couple, and up to four kids. Two kids would need to sleep in one queen bed. A great place for kids to take a friend.
•Two couples, as long as they were good friends. It would be close living.
It may work for:
•Four adults, one in each bed. The single beds are train beds, like caravan beds (750mm wide).
•Six adults would be possible, but only if you are planning to be out most of the day and out for dinner. If it a just place to sleep, it could work.

Hi my name is Fleur. My husband Mike and I have a small flock of holiday houses and cabins, that we run as our management company Dufflebird.
We manage 9 Holiday Houses that are all within 2.5 hours of Melbourne. All places are different but they are similar in that they all have personality and they are all surrounded by nature.
3 of our 9 properties are more like cabins than houses.
3 of our properties belong to us, and the other 6 belong to friends (or friends of friends).
7 of the 9 properties are pet friendly (and 6 of those welcome well behaved inside dogs).
Some are rustic and eclectic & some are more contemporary and luxurious.
All places are close to beaches or waterfalls.
Each house is fitted out to feature its own individual character and all are completely self-contained. We have set them all up so that guests can feel like its their own private getaway, while in residence.
Its a commitment keeping each place well maintained and organised. a labour of love. We hope to appeal to like minded souls who are respectful to our properties, the neighbours (in places where there are neighbours) and the surrounding community.
Fingers crossed, we seem to luck in with kindred spirits ....most of the time.
