We offer a near hundred year old rustic comfortable cottage close to one of Auckland's most famous, rugged & beautiful West Coast Beaches. If you are looking to get away from the big city & experience an authentic wilderness environment, this is the place for you. It is not flash or modern but cosy and comfortable and offers a unique getaway from the pressures of modern life. We welcome guests who appreciate character, heritage, and the natural world.
Relax & Revive your soul
Flaxmere is a cosy, intimate cottage, built in 1927, it was renovated in 2009, it has been in our family since the early 1960's. Our family of 6 plus dog spent Summers here for many years and squashed in nicely!
It is nestled against the rugged bush in the Karekare valley, prone to the prevailing sou'westerly wind.
One main bedroom is available with a double bed, and a seperate area with a double bed, and one fold out double futon couch in the communal area. PLEASE READ FURTHER NOTES!!

Weitere wichtige Infos
The water from the taps is NOT DRINKABLE but we provide drums of town supply which is fine to drink. You can use tap water for boiling and cooking however.
There is NO INTERNET or TV here! Spark phones have LIMITED RECEPTION but NO COVERAGE for Vodafone or 2 degrees. Mobile phones can be used to dial 111 in an emergency.
There are NO SHOPS at Karekare. You can buy groceries in Henderson or New Lynn and there is a dairy at Piha but it is expensive!
There are speakers at the house if you have a laptop or music player, you can plug into.
There is NO MICROWAVE, but there is a gas stove and an electric oven.
THERE ARE MOSQUITOS!!! There is really no avoiding the fact: we supply nets over the two main beds, an automatic bug sprayer and a can of fly spray. Feel free to bring personal insect repellent.
There are curtains in the master bedroom, but being high off the road there is not a huge need for them, the house heats up quickly in winter and gets HOT, when the fire is going so no need to keep the heat it, and in summer it's mega warm during the night....
Rubbish day is on Mondays, rubbish needs to go into an orange council rubbish bag (can be brought from supermarkets and dairies in West Auckland) and hung up high out of reach of rodents, recycling is every second week, but the bin is useful for keeping the rubbish out of reach of said rodents!
Parking is available for two cars on the cobblestones out front but it's a matter of parking snugly, but you can also park on the grassy area by the letterbox and under the little pohutukawa tree, please be mindful of the neighbours driveway.
Please take care on the deck, it's not a huge drop, but be careful when children are around.
This has been our family home and it is our most treasured place still. Please respect the space and treat it with care.
