We really enjoyed staying in this beautiful home, it was very comfortable and luxurious. In general terms an awful lot of consideration has gone into the design of the interior and exterior, with impressive results.
What was also really good was the amount of supplies - including a lot more than the usual milk/coffee. We didn't have to buy any of the "basics", which was really thoughtful of the host and which we really appreciated. The house is also really well equipped - plenty of cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils etc. It has everything.
What was a big disappointment though was the lack of internet - I am so used to this amenity being included that I forgot to check. The lack of internet probably doesn't matter if you are French and can browse the internet freely on your phone, but it is a huge handicap if you have a foreign mobile contract as I do where data charges are massive when you are outside your own country. In addition, if we had had internet we could have downloaded a film or (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)d etc - we needed this as we couldn't go out in the evenings as we were travelling with our little girl. There is cable TV but all channels are French and my partner doesn't speak French.
Another thing which would have been really helpful was some kind of guide to Ile de Re - we only had three days and some local knowledge on where best to go, would have been invaluable. We hired bikes on day 2 and visited La Couarde, St Martin, St Marie, La Flotte and Ars and all were vastly different. We would have got a lot more out of our visit if our host had been able to help, because if you try to research this yourself and look at the official website, you just get marketing blurb which tells you everything is wonderful.
In summary, it's a wonderful place and we would love to go back one day.
