Akiyoshi war ein überaus freundlicher und zuvorkommender Gastgeber. Die Organisation und das Informationsmaterial waren hervorragend und ich hatte eine überaus angenehme Zeit in der Unterkunft.

The value of Akiyoshi's place is excellent. A private room with a balcony for a great price! If you are on a budget, it's great way to get your own room in a nice area that's walkable to the subway. Also, the pocket wifi that Akiyoshi provides is sooooo convenient for use in the home and while walking around. It's very nice feature that makes everything easier, and the battery life on it was very good. The room was a little cramped for me, I'm only 5 feet 10 inches but was wishing for more space in the room and bathroom areas...but then again, most Japanese apartments are small. It was nice to have a bed instead of a futon, but it could definitely use some more padding to be more comfortable. I was also wishing to be a little closer to the main shinjuku station...with all the walking you'll do in Tokyo, it would've helped to be closer to the main lines. Nice thing you could open the balcony door and another window for a really great cross-breeze to keep the place fresh and airy. The balcony has a nice view over the rooftops. Also, the very near coin laundry was extremely convenient!!!

Pros: Great location, clean apartment, close to a Tokyo subway line, quiet and cute neighborhood. Place is small but that is Tokyo so we didn't mind :) Cons: Bed was very uncomfortable (I think it is a box spring not a mattress), and the place was difficult to find.

A little far from the nearest JR station, also difficult to find the house even using the (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) map. If you have heavy luggage, pls take consider because the room is in 3F without elevator.

tl;dr: great value, great location, responsive host, self check in, clean, have to walk to get there. This place was perfect for me but there are a few things to know if you are thinking about staying here: - It's a small walk from any of the train stations. If walking isn't your thing you might have problems flagging down a cab unless you look Japanese. If you're directionally challenged and don't have data for (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps you might have a problem finding it. - It's on the third floor so and there is no elevator. If you have bags and can't or aren't keen on carrying them up and down the stairs this might not be the place for you. - The bathroom is pretty small and the ceiling is low. If you're tall and remember the Bill Murray scene in the shower in Lost in Translation you might be reenacting it. - You might have to check yourself in like I did. It's easy if you are good at following the excellent directions in the provided house manual. If you want somebody to greet you and show you everything reach out to Aki before you book. Now that that's out of the way it was an ideal spot for me and I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. The neighborhood is residential and there's easy walking access to grocery stores and restaurants. If you do go grocery shopping make sure you go by Maruetsu Petit was a 10 min walk and there's a section with great, cheap sashimi. There's a Lawson that's closer (sort of like 7-11) which is great for snacks and drinks. Getting to and from HND, NRT, or Tokyo Station for the bullet train is really easy via the subway. Get a subway card for 500 yen if you're going to be using it a bit, it's a great time saver. You can get that money back when you're done with it. The place itself is small and clean if a bit spartan. I used the tiny kitchen to cook some simple stuff. The hotplate is induction which is a bit different to cook with if you've never used one. I couldn't quite figure out how to work it properly as the buttons are obviously all in Japanese and I suggested that Aki add it to the excellent house manual. There's no dishwasher so if you burn the pan you're going to have to scrub that stuff out by hand! The little balcony is a great place to drink an iced coffee in the morning as there's no coffee machine. If it's warm and humid outside all the wrinkles will fall out of your shirt -- that's also great as there is no iron or ironing board. The wifi hotspot is stable, fast, and easy to use. I didn't do any video streaming on it as I was too busy out enjoying Tokyo. For basic web browsing it was rock solid. Aki was really communicative...
