Our 1934 Cape Cod home is close to everything: hospitals, capitol, expo center, university and restaurants. We're in a lovely, old neighborhood on a major bus route. If you need to stay one night or several we will be happy to have you.
Your bedroom is on the second floor with two other bedrooms and a full bathroom you will be sharing with me and my two sisters. The mattress and 2" gel memory foam topper are enclosed in a dust mite and bed bug proof mattress protector. The room has central air and heat, ceiling fan, and wifi. We have two friendly cats that will not have access to your room. Scratch that, unless you firmly and securely latch the door they will come in.
The front door is a little tricky, to unlock it turn the key a quarter turn to the left and push the door open. The door locks automatically so be sure to have your key with you when you leave the house.
Try to minimize trips back and forth and up and downstairs if you arrive after 9:00 in the evening. For late arrivals we will leave the foyer light on, please turn that light off. The stair light has a switch at both the bottom and the top of the stairs. You do not need to leave your shoes in the foyer but you can if you wish. Please leave the key in your room.
Closing and opening bedroom and bathroom doors can be made much quieter by fully turning the knob before opening the door and then releasing the knob slowly so the catch doesn't snap back and make a loud noise. These doors and knobs are old though and even with the best intentions they sometimes sound like a gunshot. There is a small table fan for white noise to help the light sleepers.

Yes, we can help with directions and recommendations, but we won't be bailing you out of jail :)
Most of my guests so far have been in Topeka for work or hobbies, if they're not just passing through on I-70, and so have been gone a lot and fairly independent. I have had a few women stay long-term who are nurses or PhD students, and we welcome those kinds of long-term guests.
Weitere wichtige Infos
There is on and off-street parking (we are on a one-way street). You can park in the driveway, we usually have our guests park on the left side (the side of the front door, not the garage door). There are several other people who live in the house including a child. There is only one bathroom (and is upstairs right next to your bedroom) and three adults use it. Sometimes we shower at night or in the morning. In the morning it's usually occupied off and on between 6:30 and & 7:15. Please communicate to me your shower needs if you are worried about timing. We are pretty flexible.
You can hang your bath towels on the rack on your closet door in your bedroom. By the way, there is a full-length mirror on the inside of the closet door.
Please do not bring alcohol into the house. There is no smoking in the house or the backyard, but in the front yard is okay.
There is street parking as well as room on the left side of the driveway.
Late, even very late arrivals are fine just turn off the light in the foyer and on the landing and be very quiet opening and closing doors.
