We are always on hand to offer assistance and advice to help you enjoy your holiday to the maximum. But we are aware it is your holiday so will respect your privacy.

Die Nachbarschaft

The house is in the village of Breasclete, about 3 miles from Callanish Standing Stones. There is a Visitor Centre near the stones which has a gift shop and cafe. The nearest hotel is 3 miles in the other direction at Doune, Carloway where you can also visit an ancient stone broch. The west side of Lewis is rich with historical sites.

There are numerous freshwater lochs for fishing for brown trout and there are a couple of fishing estates nearby where you buy permits to fish for salmon and sea trout.

We love taking a walk out the back of the house where you can see some great views of the hills and lochs. You an also take a short walk down to the seashore where there is a rocky beach where at low tide you can explore the rockpools or go for a swim.

Best to have your own car but there is a bus service 3-4 times a day depending on the season which does the circular route from Stornoway around the island coming past the property in both directions.

The nearest petrol station is in Cameron Terrace (10 miles and in the other direction Barvas (14) but there are plentiful in Stornoway. There are numerous car hire firms some based at the airport.

Many of the most beautiful beaches and visitor attractions are off the beaten track in remoter locations so it's best to have a vehicle.

Weitere wichtige Infos

Always book travel well in advance especially at peak times for ferries. Caledonian MacBrayne sail from Ullapool to Stornoway the nearest town or you can choose other routes to the islands like coming through Skye to catch the Uig toTarbert ferry. Check out the hopscotch rates (in one port out another).

Sunday is a special day in the islands so don't expect to find shops and other businesses open, they're are a few who do but just be aware and plan accordingly.

Der Check-in ist jederzeit nach 15:00

There is no smoking permitted within the property and although we don't mind you taking your pets they must be kept to certain areas and on no account permitted on the soft furnishings. We expect people to respect and love the house as much as we do.

Staying in Granny's House was a pure pleasure. We arrived late on the Saturday after a long journey and the welcome pack was most appreciated. Caroline and Kenny met us on the Sunday morning to make sure we had everything we needed and gave advice on places to visit. Kenny weaves next door to the cottage so is always on hand with information and a smile. Bottom line is that you will have to go a long way to beat this cottage on the Isle of Lewis. Thank you Caroline and Kenny.

Caroline's house was in a perfect location on the island, quiet, clean and very homely with all the modern conveniences making our trip stress free and comfortable. Her welcoming gifts and Kenny's great weaving demonstrations made us feel extremely welcome. Couldn't recommend it more.

We really enjoyed Granny's House and Caroline's welcoming "gifts". The house was very well equipped and perfectly situated for the local sights. We hope to return in slightly better weather!

Caroline and Kenny are fantastic hosts. Their house is comfortable, exceptionally well-equipped and, to make our arrival that much better, there were fresh flowers in a vase, the makings of a cheese and wine party in the fridge and a welcome card to boot. So nice after our long journey. The house is perfectly situated (close to the Callanish Stones) and ideal for visiting Lewis and Harris. The heating was pre-set so that, no matter what time we came back from our adventures around the countryside, we came home to a warm house. And we had our wee dog with us too....made very welcome. If you are a fan of comfort, nature, fabulous sunsets, fresh eggs and weaving (Kenny gave us a really interesting tour of his workshop, which is in the house next to Taigh Granaidh), then this is the place for you. We couldn't have asked for anything more.

Wife, mother, crofter, event manager....seeking the sunshine as it seems to elude the Hebrides at times when I am able to need it. Oh and I also have a self catering property on the west side of Lewis and I know what it's like to upkeep and more importantly what I'm looking for when I visit other properties.
