1 of 2 rooms offered in comfy, clean, brand new home 0.3 miles from the best beaches in San Pedro. Private bath, walk in closet in this "Mstr. Bdrm". Close to all, located in Pt. Fermin area. Other rm: "Little Japan and ..." (24 mins from LAX).
We are 5 or 6 blocks walk to the best beaches located on either side of the beginning of the LA Harbor breakwater (made from rocks imported from Catalina Island--about 20 miles due south). The sun comes up (our view is east with the harbor to the left and ocean to the right). You can see the Angel Lighthouse from our living room and upper balcony. Your room has a private balcony, overlooking a small Japanese garden and vegetable garden we are still working on. We serve coffee in the morning, and usually fruit, pastry, etc. Bill often has to hurry to work as a teacher, and Yumi sometimes has early morning calls as an actress but we both enjoy talking with guests unless they prefer to be alone. Both guest rooms are on the first floor, with access to the kitchen, dining and living room on the next floor, and 2 tables on the deck on the third floor. There are great Mom and Pop restaurants, exotic restaurants, and some of the best seafood in California. Take a stroll along the wharf at Ports O'Call and select lobster or scallops, swordfish or whatever you crave. They will prepare it the way you like as you sip sangria from a pitcher while listening to mariachi bands. You can get a harbor cruise there, or stroll further down to the Merchant Marine Museum, or to the USS Iowa ($15 admission for seniors), or view the historical circles along the walkway culminating with geyser-like water fountains that dance to music every half hour (every 10 minutes at noon, and again for an hour in the evening). They are located near the terminals for several large passenger ship companies (like Carnival that go to Mexico, Hawaii, etc.) and the terminal for Catalina Island. Let us be your jumping off place before you travel to one of these great destinations. We will be happy to give you advice about all the great activities in Catalina (best diving in California, camping, hotels, restaurants, parasailing, zipline, etc.). Of course, you can rent kayaks, surfboards, kite surfers and the like right here--or take sport fishing boats or whale watching cruises from 22nd street (about a dozen blocks from our place). That's also near the craft center (and a new brewery which recently opened), and a place where you can buy fresh seafood on an early Saturday morning for doing a barbecue on the beach (although John's Hamburger stand makes pretty good hamburgers). Many guests agree with us that the Ports o' Call Restaurant has the best Sunday morning buffet ever: for $40 you get limitless champagne or mimosas, meat carving station, "have it your way" taco station, pasta station, omelette station, crab legs, sushi, cappuccino station, desserts, huge salad bar, bread and pastries, sea food diablo--AND A TWO HOUR CRUISE OF THE BAY INCLUDED (if you go early enough so you can board at 12:30). Have a boat? There's a boat launching ramp just a few blocks from us, as well as the Cabrillo Aquarium (free admission) which has a movie and special program when the grunion are running (adults need a fishing license). The Korean Bell is nearby and the Pt. Fermin Lighthouse (which was first run by two sisters--and whose last keepers were also women) has free tours (except Mondays). We are less than 15 minutes from the Long Beach Convention Center (across the beautiful Thomas Vincent Bridge) and the world class Aquarium of the Pacific. We are minutes away from the 110, 405, and 710 freeways--which puts you a quick drive away from Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Hollywood, Universal Studios, the Getty Museums, LA Art Museum, the LA Music Center, The Disney Music Hall, Exposition Park (where the space shuttle is housed)(which, by the way, you can reach by bus from San Pedro directly), Santa Monica, Malibu, and the beautiful South facing beaches of Laguna, Dana Point, and Newport Beach. Frankly, we could go on more and more--as Bill lived most of his life in Southern California.
Zugang für Gäste
You will be given code access to the front door the day you arrive (or slightly earlier). Both rooms have their own bathrooms and closets, and there is another guest bathroom upstairs. You are welcome to use the satellite TV whenever you like. We aim to make your stay a happy one. Note: We put in central air conditioning this summer, but because of cool ocean breezes, seldom need to use it.
Interaktion mit Gästen
Paul Weeks, Bill's father, was the Civil Rights "editor" for the LOS ANGELES TIMES. NEWSWEEK called him one of the most important writers of the Civil Rights movement. We treat all guests of all races, religions, ethnicities, sexual preferences, non-religious, etc. with respect and equality and expect any guests staying with us to treat any other guests who happen to be here the same way. We enjoy talking with guests (unless we are super busy with something or if the guests prefer to be alone). We have maintained ongoing relationships with many guests.
The San Pedro Peninsula points directly south towards Catalina Island. It has a rich history, and tons of fun things to do. Contact us in advance and let us know what you'd like to know more about so we can fill you in if we can.

We recommend renting a car because Southern California is so spread out. However, you can take a local train and then bus to get within 2 blocks of our house, or take Uber-like (Uber, Sidecar, Lyft) transportation anywhere. There is a local bus that can take you out to Pt. Fermin Lighthouse (or you could even walk it)--or to Ports O'Call Village--or even to USC and Exposition Park. A neighbor told me there is a free shuttle service, though I will have to look into that. There is a protected swimming beach, and a full surf beach only 0.3 miles away (5 or 6 blocks away). We have some guide books you can look at while you are here and lots of info on restaurants, museums, places to go, etc.

I am looking from the den/communication center as I write this, through the kitchen and out the window. I see a huge full moon rising above the waters of the harbor. If I go in there, I can see the light from the Angels Lighthouse and hear waves crashing on the shore when the surf is high.
Please no smoking and no noise after 10 PM. You will hear a beautiful rendition of "Taps" from Fort MacArthur, a few blocks away, at 9 PM many nights. Please wash dishes or put them in the dishwasher. We provide fresh bedding and towels, and organic shampoo provided by a friend of ours. Please replace anything you break (and be careful with the Japanese artifacts).
Wenn du bis 24 Stunden vor deiner Reise stornierst, erhältst du eine volle Rückerstattung inklusive der Service-Gebühren.

I moved from Japan to live in California for good in 2006. I love to cook. Actually I published a cookbook, Yumi's Yummies. Bill is a teacher in Long Beach who wrote a novel, Gaijin Teacher; Foreign Sensei. We enjoy meeting people from all over the world and love to have wine/beer during the meal!!!
