Take a trip back in time in a historic 1881 sailor's hotel! The bunk room is co-ed, with 8 triple bunk beds. Custom built, they include free ultra-high speed wi-fi, reading light and charging outlet, privacy curtain, and lockable built-in storage.

Der Wohnraum

The bunk room has been created as a nod to the hotel's creation as a safe place for sailors. You'll find the same thing in this space with 18' ceilings- cozy, strong, and comfortable triple bunk beds. Each bed has a wide, sturdy ladder to access the bunk. Inside the bunk you'll find a storage locker to stow valuables (bring a lock with you), a charging station for electronics, and handy reading lamp. Thick canvas curtains provide privacy.
3 private baths in the mezzanine above the beds are available, as is a small kitchenette with fridge storage for leftovers, fresh cold and hot water, and a sink. There's a common area below to meet other travelers, and a bank of lockers for your bigger bags.

Staying safe and having fun during your stay is really important to us. The Society Hotel has a lot of social service organizations as neighbors, and it's important to take care in interacting with people experiencing homelessness, addiction, and mental illness. It's best not to directly interact with folks, but if you'd like to help, donate at the front desk directly to some of these fine social service organizations.

This place is exactly as it seems! A quality resting place for people traveling. I stayed in the Bunk Room and despite the number of people there it was surprisingly quiet (with the exception of a snore or two) and very clean. The staff was super nice and very helpful with recommendations and accommodations. The next time I'm in Portland, I know where I'm staying!

My bunk bed in the hostel was clean, comfy, and spacious, and came with a reading light, and electrical outlet (tip: bring two locks to store your belongings; another tip: get a bunk by the floor if possible, you can put your stuff down by your bed and it is easier to access your belongings instead of having to climb down, then back up to your bed). The bed also came with a privacy curtain, so you really felt like you were in your own private room. Though it is a hostel, it is certainly not a party one, and it is lights out in the dormitory area starting around 10 or 11 pm. The 3 bathrooms that guests share were very clean and well-stocked; I had no problems or complaints about them. The staff of the Hotel were friendly, helpful, and hospitable. The Hotel is located close to a MAX light rail stop, so it is convenient to get to this place from the airport. My stay here was comfortable and I would stay here if visiting Portland again.

The most high-end bunk room I've ever seen. Bunks are very comfortable and spacious. The bunk room is a loft space with a generous amount of common space and lockable storage. Also a kitchen / dining area and 3 full bathrooms. The bunk room shares amenities with an upscale hotel. This means hotel quality linens, spotless bathrooms, a lush lobby with a great cafe and bar, stunning roof deck, and exceptional staff. Very glad to have found this place!

I highly recommend this hostel. The bunk room is clean and quiet! It's one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in! The location is convenient; however, there are a lot of homeless in the neighborhood. Stay alert especially if you are a female solo traveler.

A great place! Easy to get to from the airport on public transit. I stayed in the bunk room. The bunk was private with a curtain and was comfy, had a large enough space for belongings (bring a lock with you), and surprising was very quiet. The rooftop was awesome in the morning, I picked up donuts at voodoo donuts and had coffee on the rooftop and had it all to myself:). The bar/coffee/lounge area is welcoming at all hours, I just wanted to hang out for hours. Highly recommend!

Inspired by their amazing experience as AirBnB hosts at home, our owners Jessie and Jonathan, along with friends Matt and Gabe, took the plunge to create an AirBnB-themed hotel! The result is The Society Hotel, an unique boutique hotel with hostel component that has been serving adventurous travelers since 1881!

We are a group of travelers, having collectively been to the corners of the world, and we wanted to share our love for exploration and our adopted hometown of Portland, Oregon. Come stay with us in our historic sailor's lodge and we'll help you have an authentic Portland Experience!
