Annie and her family provided an unforgettable experience. Their home is so inviting, with separate rooms just below the main house. We really enjoyed having a private courtyard to share with friends each morning before joining Annie for breakfast. Her meals were wonderful! Her family could not have been more hospitable to our group (4 of us) and offered transportation, sight-seeing and invited us to join them during their New Year's Eve celebrations. Either her son or husband can provide transportation to/from the airport for a reasonable price, and were very reliable. We loved living like a local while being treated as a house guest. A MUST stay!!

First, her son greeted me at the airport at 1:00 am with a big smile and great conversation as we ambled along lonely night roads. My room perfect for privacy, quiet and cozy. I slept immediately and in the morning was greeted with a warm hug by Annie and offered a delicious breakfast. Her husband so sweet as well. We had indepth conversation for at least an hour or two. We get each other and appreciate the uniqueness that we have. This Airbnb is a treasure. And the family that operates it tremendous. Gracias a la VIDA

Annie and her husband Fausto were our first hosts for our 10-day trip of Ecuador. Their graciousness made us feel spoiled. We feel so lucky. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable, in every detail — the food, accommodation, and added hospitality of a host who really cares about sharing all they know to make your trip as unique and rewarding as it can be. The breakfast, which we had twice, was delicious. There were fruits, including naranjilla, papaya and pineapple. Annie serves this little egg scramble in a cocette pot that just tastes so good. There are many options for tea, and the coffee was some of the best we had on our trip. Our room was spacious and thoughtfully stocked with extra blankets and cups. The rooms are tucked back in a little backyard area that's nice to sit out in when the sun rolls by. Their dog, Sasha, is dopey and lovely and makes me wish I lived somewhere with a backyard so I could have a dog again, too. There's also a cat named Lunita who's very cute. You see what I mean about this place? It's so perfect that it works for dog people and cat people. They've thought of everything. I should also mention that Annie and Fausto, both native Ecuadorians, wrote us a list with places we should visit in the cities we were traveling to for the rest of the trip. That kind of care is a rare find. The house is a short, inexpensive taxi ride from Quito's center. It's down the street from a busy intersection/roundabout, and Fausto gave us a lift each time we needed to get there to pick up a cab. He also drove us down to the bus stop we needed for the next leg of our trip. This was a huge help because we had our luggage, and a limited sense of the nuances of the bus system. I don't think you will find better hosts in Quito. Or maybe even anywhere else. If there's an opening at La Casa de la Gringa when you're in town, book it.

Annie, her son Felipe and husband Fausto gave us the best start to our Ecuador travel as possible. The house is located in a very residential neighborhood - exactly what we wanted. Felipe is a great guy to hang out with - speaks English and picked us up from the airport at 1AM in the morning for no more than a taxi would cost us at that hour. They invited us into their house and made us feel as welcome as family. Since we were new to South America and spoke little Spanish, Felipe graciously took us around town. In the evening, Annie provided dinner for us. I took a little walk with Fausto to the nearby grocery store where we picked up some ingredients for dinner. Fausto speaks almost no English but more than makes up for it by his enthusiastic interaction that Annie helpfully translates. Annie and Felipe both speak excellent English. Very highly recommended for anyone wishing to spend a few days living in a true Ecuadorian neighborhood.

This was a lovely place to stay for our four nights in Quito. Annie and Fausto arranged for their son to pick us up at the airport, which was very helpful as it would have been difficult for newcomers to direct a taxi to their house which is semi-hidden in a residential neighborhood. The entire family is very kind and generous and gave us lots of advice on places to go or avoid in Quito. They also can help arrange tours with private drivers to places near Quito, which we took advantage of for a day trip to Otavalo and the surrounding area. Annie speaks excellent English. Our room was lovely and had a comfortable queen-sized bed. It was very quiet with only the occasional barking of the neighborhood dogs! The bathroom was small but functional and the shower was great and always had hot water. Breakfasts at the house were delicious: fresh fruit and granola and juice, local breads, and eggs. The house is located in a quiet residential neighborhood of Quito that is pretty close to the La Mariscal tourist area. We never had a difficult time directing taxi drivers to the area once Annie and Fausto helped us determine where it was on a map of the city. Although the neighborhood felt safe to us, they did recommend we take taxis home after dark just to be on the safe side. All in all, this was a wonderful place to stay and we highly recommend it!

Annie and Fausto, the owners of La Casa de la Gringa, are amazing! They are some of the nicest people we have met in our year of travel. It is a wonderful place if you want something nicer than a homestay (beds made every morning, chocolates left on the pillow), but with lots of contact with locals (unlike a hotel). The rooms are clean and comfortable with private entrances and private bathrooms. Plus you have lots of opportunity to practice your Spanish--if you want. We highly recommend for people studying or looking to practice Spanish, or looking for for the experience of living in a lovely and comfortable Quito home. Every morning Anne and Fausto cook a delicious breakfast and chat with you while you eat. They're both great about speaking slowly in Spanish and using small words so it's easy to understand and good practice. (Annie also speaks English, so don't worry if you don't speak Spanish). Both Annie and Fausto had lots of good suggestions for things to do around Quito, and repeatedly went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our time there. We had a wonderful stay and can't recommend them highly enough.
