We are in a tree lined residential neighborhood that is walking distance to the waterfront and nearby locations. There is onstreet parking, enough for a couple cars and boat trailer.

If you want to prepare some of your own meals there is a fully stocked kitchen with essential spices, coffee, teas bottled water and snacks for your arrival. You are two blocks from Food Lion grocery store where you have the basic meats, produce etc. There are also two pharmacies in town.

You can bring your own movies for the DVD player or rent from the Red Box at Food Lion. Cable TV has several choices however no premium movie channels. You will also have a few games in the TV cabinet. There is a Bose radio/DVD player in the living room with a selection of some popular and classical music.

The laundry closet is supplied with detergent for the washer and dryer. The roomy bathroom with a large walk in shower and grab bars is near the bedrooms. We supply linens for the kitchen, bath and bedroom as well as shampoo, cream rinse and paper products. Each of the two bedrooms are roomy with corner windows and comfy queen beds.

There are several books on hand about local history and a full array of travel brochures for your eastern shore experience . We have listed many areas of interest and their proximity in the Air BnB online Guidebook.

We do not supply beach towels, chairs or umbrellas at this time. However you will find just about everything else needed to make this your vacation home away from home.

Guests have use of the entire house and outside areas.

We live next door and welcome our guests when they arrive. Our phone number is on the refrigerator door if you should need us. There is local travel information provided in a binder which is on the kitchen table. You will find additional travel information in the "travel rack" near the kitchen door.

Crisfield is a small town... the waterfront dominates and is "the neighborhood". It is a short leisurly walk to Wellington Beach, Food Lion or the city park/pier and library. Don't miss the new library and huge covered deck overlooking the Annemessex River! Hours are 11 am to 7 pm but closed on Sunday. You can find the morning newspaper, purchase a K-Cup and settle in on the deck with your coffee! Around town there are many gorgeous views of Tangier Sound or the Annemessex River. Breath taking sunsets sometimes so bright they light up the entire town!

For an equally beautiful waterfront experience visit the park office at adjacent Janes Island State Park. Here you can linger near the water, launch a boat or rent a kayak. During the hot summer months the pitch from the tall loblolly pines scent the air, their shade makes for an nice walk or bike ride. During the summer season the park has weekly activities. Make sure you check in with them during your visit with us.

Crisfield was recently chosen by Forbes Magazine as a "top 10 value waterfront community". Visitors can learn about the rich local and early American history at the J. Millard Tawes Museum. The museum is located at the end of Ninth St on Somers Cove. Here you will also find Cox's Crab Shanty, a gift shop and possibly a volunteer for a walking tour. There is also a self guided tour with an accompanying brochure. If you want to expand your knowledge of history, take a day trip to Smith Island or Tangier Island. The Tangier boat, Steven Thomas, leaves from Somers Cove at the end of 10th street. The Captain Jason I, Captain Jason II and Island Belle go to Smith Island from the big city dock called "The Depot". Don't miss Tylerton and Drum Point Market's award winning crab cakes! All boats leave at 12:30 and return around 4:30. Tickets can be purched at those locations.

If you are interested in water activities there is swimming at Wellington Beach. Favorite places to kayak are Wellington Beach to the Little Annemessex River, Janes Island State park (rent or bring yours) and the county launch at beautiful Coulburn Creek near Marion. If you kayak from the park to Flat Cap Beach pack a lunch, take a chair and towel. It is beautiful out there, you will face out to Tangier Sound. NOTE there is no kayaking within Somers Cove only boating. If you are a fisherman, charter fishing captains are at Somers Cover Marina or the Small Boat Harbour off Lorie Quinn Dr near the library. If you bring your boat, slips can be rented at Somers Cove Marina. They also have a nice waterfront pool. There is also a public boat launch with trailer parking for boats and jet skis within Somers Cove.

Crisfield has several festivals throughout the summer season. Some are free and others charge an admission. The most popular are the J.M. Tawes Crab and Clambake held the third Wednesday in July and the National Hard Crab Derby, a three day event over Labor Day weekend. There are also the "Crisfield Art Strolls" held the fourth Saturday of each month from 4-7 pm, May to October. Good sources for local events are Somerset County Tourism ( The Crisfield Story Project, Crisfield Events and Chesapeake Ghost Walks web and pages.

We have many "seasons" here on the Eastern Shore. Crabbing season usually runs from April to October. Oysters run from October to March/April when watermen start switching over to crabbing. Rockfish or striper season comes and goes due to DNR rules. For ornithologists, bird watching is year around, but the big "birding season" is during the spring and fall migrations of April and October. Breath taking photography is year around!

A description of the neighborhood wouldn't be complete without mentioning Maryland's official dessert, Smith Island cake and the Smith Island Baking Company. The bakery is located just a block from your door on Chesapeake Avenue. You can't miss it with the bright yellow and white canopy. If you are staying the week buy your cake when you get here, I promise it will last the week!

If you decide to stay with us several day trip suggestions can be provided at your request. There is alot to do here on the Eastern Shore!

Of course a car is the fastest transportation but weather permitting, Crisfield is also a walkable city. So bring your walking shoes or a bicycle (we are working on providing bikes). The Food Lion, Crisfield Discount Pharmacy, state liquor store and several restraurants are easily accessible. Crisfield was recently approved for golf carts on a few city streets. We do not provide a golf cart. Although close, you will need a bike or car to visit Janes Island State Park.

Route 413 coming into Crisfield is on Maryland's Scenic Byways as are other Eastern Shore highways. You will find points of interest marked by the large silver color signs along the highway. You can find the State Byways map at the tourism office in town or by contacting the Maryland Department of Tourism. We supply city and county maps to assist our guests in getting around the vicinity.

Our beige tabby "Fred" may greet you at the door. While he is very charming... please do not let him in the house! Don't be suprised if you also find him sleeping in the planter next to the front door! This is one of his favorite spots to nap.

We both worked the crazy corporate life until we could no longer take it! We bought the house next door to the cottage about 14 years ago as a place to get away. And I guess you could say we like the charm of older homes. We have been lovingly bringing it back to its origional glory. We then purchased Helen's Cottage in 2014 with the idea to turn it into an Air BnB. The cottage which was built in 1967 has a "prairie style" low pitched roof, wide overhanging eaves and vertical lines. We love our small quiet bayfront community for the beauty of living along the Chesapeake. And we are happy to share the experience of the Eastern Shore with those who also want to get off the grid for awhile! We are kayakers, boaters, bicyclists and purveyors of back porch conversation! Although we have 3 felines, we do not allow pets in the cottage. Fred, a beige tabby is our indoor/outdoor kitty. He can often be found sleeping in the planters by the front door!
