  • Cathy's Gypsy Caravan is smack in the most charming area of Ajijic. Being a small town you can walk everywhere you need to go, but this place is surrounded by everything that you would want to walk to in the first place. The caravan itself is very charming and you wake up to the birds chirping every morning. Nights are calm and we got some of the best sleep we have had in months while we were there. The cabin is equipped with a tv and dvd player and cathy provides drinking water and coffee for guests. Probably the best part of staying at the caravan was Cathy herself. She is a very outgoing and friendly host and was both understanding and accommodating when our plans changed about 6 times in a matter of 48 hours, she gave us great 'off the beaten patch' recommendations, and made us feel comfortable and welcome at all times. We had a great time and would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to spend a few days in Ajijic. Gypsy Caravan gets two thumbs up.

  • Cathy was a great host and accommodated us well. Wish we had been able to visit longer but we will definitely stay at her beautiful caravan again. The location was perfect - only a few blocks from the plaza. Felt like we were in this beautiful, private garden paradise - oh, wait!! - we were! Thanks, Cathy!!

  • Cathy is immensely welcoming! I felt right at home! She is eager to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Between the gorgeous natural yard, the singing birds, the colorful wooden caravan, and her roaming cat it isn't difficult to do. I will certainly stay here again if I return to Ajijic!

    Emily2015-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • If you have a chance to stay in the gypsy caravan, do it! Cathy is lovely, not to mention an excellent visual artist, and her place is tucked away in a little slice of paradise.

    Stephanie2017-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Cathy is amazing and her Gypsy Caravan is perfect. It’s located in the heart of everything in Ajijic, close to restaurants, shops and clubs. Yet, it’s very calm and quiet. A great choice for those who want all that Ajijic offers. You will arrive a a guest, and leave as a friend. Cathy’s hospitality is warm and comforting. You will be at home immediately.

  • Cathy was very welcoming even though it was very late when we got there. The caranan was exactly like the photos.Set in a pretty garden setting. We had a great stay and Cathy was very helpfull with directions to surrounding places of interest.I would highly recomend staying at Cathys.

  • Great space and sweet people! Very perfect view of Ajijic

    Raajan2016-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • We took the main house which was airy and spacious and very Mexican. I loved the upstairs bedroom/bath area and the chunky wooden staircase. The house is accessed via a gate on the carretera but once behind the gate is quite peaceful. The garden and pool area, the veranda, and the opportunity to meet and chat with those staying in the apartment spaces added to the experience. If you don’t like sharing it wouldn’t be for you but I appreciated. It is right across the carretera from the little “vecindad” of Ajijic and an interesting wall downhill along cobblestones streets towards the plaza and the malecón. (Bring sturdy shoes). There are a few eateries to grab American breakfast a few steps away and a popular dinner place right next door called Roberto’s. I highly recommend Luis’ place. Disfruten su visita!

    Cathy2018-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • This house is indeed beautiful but the true beauty in the house is in the owners luis and his family. They take being a host very seriously. Like I said the house is beautiful and the Village of Ajijic is wonderful but Luis del Toro and family are the icing on the cake!!

    Harry2015-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful experience! The house ison the main street but set back and quiet. Michael was there and so helpful. The place is as pretty as the pictures. It was chilly and rained one day, still the house was not too cold, lots of warm blankets. We had dinner two nights at Robertos, right nextdoor, it was good. Another night ate at Simply Thai,Delicious!!! Luis and his wife were intown, came by with a cake for us! How special is that! We'll call this home whenever we go back to Ajijic! 5 stars!

  • Lake and mountain views were very relaxing. The stairs to the unit and private view deck are a reasonable trade-off for this price range (best we saw without paying double). Convenient restaurant next door. Host had a fan delivered very quickly upon request.

  • Great location with fantastic views. John went out of his way to make us feel at home , loved every minute of our stay and would love to go back and see how John finishes this space. This was a great location to wake up and explore the area and loved sitting outside by the pool and bar watching the sunsets.

  • The location and view can't be beat. Only 15 minutes outside of Sayulita, with an amazing view of the lake. Beautiful pool and patio area, with lovely stonework and landscaping. Great amenities. John is a wonderful, helpful host.

  • Every single moment was perfect. The Casita have an amazing view that makes you feel in the paradise. John is very hospitality and friendly, so it makes everything easy and confortable. Excelent.

    Jesús2016-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • All in all, our stay at John's casita was very pleasurable. John was responsive to our needs, as well as his wife Anna. The only "flies in the ointment" were the pool was not heated and the spa didn't work. Also, there was no direct TV as advertised. We suggest renting a car as the walk up the extremely steep hill was a challenge. Bus service to town is exceptional, with the buses running every 15 minutes. Be sure to carry a taxi phone number with you in the event you have to call one to take you up the hill.

Three fully self-contained, private one room casitas, each with a comfortable queen size bed, compact but fully equipped kitchenette and a private bathroom. The stove is a two burner electric hot plate. There is a solar heated swimming pool, outdoor covered kitchen/BBQ and a large beautiful garden. Lots of places to relax and have coffee, breakfast etc. There is a laundry facility for guest’s use. This is a large private secure home with three small detached casitas
We have constructed three private casitas and a laundry facility with the express intention of renting them out on air BNB. The casitas are detached from the house, fully self-contained and quite private. They are not large and would not be suitable for a very long stay. Our longest so far has been 2 months. Although they had no problem and will be returning for yet another two month stay, we would not recommend anything longer. Hot water is provided by a 132 liter propane hot water tank that services three casitas. Motion sensor lights will make sure you can find your casita safely in the dark. It's toward the back of the garden. Don't want any accidental swimming. Each casita has a Queen bed with a softer (Canadian) mattress. The casitas were built along a 15 foot high wall on the East side of our property. A huge and very high garden of palms and other foliage serves to keep out noise and the hot afternoon sun. We do not have air conditioning, however there is a fan in each casita. Please ask questions if you have any concerns. Everything you need to relax and enjoy your stay in Ajijic is here.
Ajijic was originally created when 4 indigenous tribes agreed to come together to create a village on the shores of Lake Chapala. The central plaza of that village was called six corners. We are one block West of that original small plaza, which is still very much filled with Mexican tradition and culture. We are not an affluent neighborhood, but rather a mixture of a few large wealthy homes mixed with a generous sprinkling of mom and pop businesses and a large population of locals who are very happy living on a monthly income that most of us would not survive on for more than three days. We are surrounded by local families, the cornerstone and basis of Mexican culture. We can step out the front door at 10:00 at night and be greeted by young children still playing in the street. We feel very safe here and have had no problems whatsoever in over 6 years. We often enjoy parades or musical “presentations” on the street in front of our home and occasionally a full blown fiesta. Did you know that sometimes Mexican music is an oxymoron?! A great grocery store is just across the street, as well as, many stores and shops within a one block radius. Vegetable market, ice cream store, clothing store, barber shop, meat market and many more are within one block. Some of Ajijic’s absolutely best restaurants are within easy walking distance. This is not a noisy neighborhood (comparatively). I say comparatively since all Mexico is noisy compared to our Northern neighbors. Our home and casitas are buffered by 10- 15ft walls and a huge garden, including many tall trees, so it’s really uncommonly quiet here. No one can protect us from the noise of the occasional bottle rockets that our neighbors fire off in celebration of something. There is a church ½ block from us. The priest has considerable experience announcing some of these celebrations. A wonderful neighborhood with wonderful people.
  • Scott and his wife are wonderful hosts. If you have questions about the area they are more than willing to help or offer suggestions; whether it's a good place to eat, buy groceries, or find your way around with a taxi or public transit, they will always give suggestions that are right on target. They love living here, and the way they interact with the local community makes this an even more enjoyable place to stay. Beautiful gardens to enjoy whenever you wish! You'd be hard pressed to find a more pleasing environment.

    Rebecca2017-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent location in Ajijic, walkable to all within town. Right around the corner from the old and historic 6 points plaza where you will find small shops and some food vendors. Very easy access to the malecon for a stroll along the lake. Local bus runs to town and beyond on street outside property. Your hosts are kind, helpful and welcoming with very good knowledge of the area. Casita's are comfortable and efficient, access to extensive gardens and pool a delight. If you are looking for an authentic experience within the village, this place is hard to beat.

  • In mid February we spent a month in Casita #3. Scott and Paula’s large yard and garden was tranquil, meditative and just paradise. Tables and comfortable chairs surround the pool area. There is plenty of shade for all. Casita #3 has a cocktail size private patio which we really enjoyed, it felt like and extension of our Casita. Casita #3 is furnished with everything you need, however, if you have a concern or a request just ask Scott, he will help you. Bed is very comfortable and sheets are very soft. If you are accustomed to a particular pillow you may want to bring it with you. There is plenty of storage within the Casita. The washer and dryer and washing products come in very handy. No air conditioned needed, because weather in Ajijic is perfect. Although small, the kitchen provides you opportunities to cook meals. I thought I would miss the stove but we found the portable two burner stove did the trick. However, locals do a great job with cooking homemade foods and sell them for a very reasonable price. Scott is located near bus stops, small grocery stores and a variety of other conveniences. Public buses provided for our transportation needs. Cost for transportation is 7 pesos one way. This trip and casita was what we were looking for and that was “living among locals”. We really felt like part of Scott and Paula family. We would definitely stay here again. Our love to the four dogs, several cats and talking feathered friends. The were all precious.

  • What else can we say that hasn’t already been said. This place is Gorgeous! Just as pictured and described in the listing. Like the other reviewers have shared, Scott and Paula and their team are phenomenal host! Instantly making you feel like family. But more importantly we enjoyed making new friends like Thomas and Esperanza and several others that you guys connected us with. You were a wealth of knowledge and information about the Lakeside area. Your insight was very valuable to us in our future permanent move to Ajijic in 3 years!! We look forward to seeing you guys when we come back in August and then again next summer when we bring our children down for a couple months. Of course, you know you can count on us to spread the word about you and your magnificent property. Just as we did while we were visiting. See y’all soon!

  • This is our second stay at Casa Pasco #3. The whole place is just as described in the description and pictures. The best part is the Hosts Scott and Paula! Scott is a wealth of knowledge about the area, and an absolute blast to hangout with and have a drink with. The accommodations are sparkling clean and comfortable. Scott and Paula make you feel like family. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND staying here the next time you visit Ajijic,MX

    Carole2018-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • If you see a vacancy at Scott's, snap it up. This place is a find. Scott's amazing little oasis has it all, a stunning garden area with tropical flowers and trees, a friendly pack of adopted small Mexican street dogs (you have to like dogs) and a good location. Most of all, Scott is a gracious and welcoming host who will make your stay with him memorable. He will even arrange excursions for you if you want. The location is perfect for walks to the Ajijic center, and it is just two blocks to the malecón, the pedestrian walkway on Lake Chapala. There are restaurants and stores close by. There is even a language school across the street, Collegio de Ajijic, where you could make it a Spanish language learning vacation. Scott's place is also right on the bus line that can take you from Jocotepec to Chapala for just a few pesos. The accommodations are very clean, the king size bed is comfortable, and after a day of strolling and shopping in Ajijic, cool off in the clear waters of the pool, surrounded by luxurious tropical growth. Whether you want to explore the area or relax at poolside, this spot has it all.

    Alan2018-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • So much more like staying with a friend! Scott and Paula have immersed themselves with the local community and will hang out with you by the pool with the other guests as well if you want company. The casitas are adorable and fully equipped, even with the locally famous coffee which I loved. Full size frig was great to have, excellent bed, linens and towels. Loved listening to their exotic birds call out different sounds and meowing! Will definitely be sending my friends there.

    Brenda2018-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely fantastic!!! We are the typical couple coming down to investigate this wonderful area of Lake Chapala. We had done our research and wanted to be close to everything in Ajijic and not need a car. This was perfect. The casita has everything you need from plenty of storage space, a comfortable bed, to a lovely kitchen. But honestly we ate out each day since it's located near so many great restaurants. Btw the hot water works perfectly and has been newly updated. The grounds of Casa Pasco are beautiful with a number of quiet spots to curl up in and read a book. Scott is a treasure box full of information, on all things Ajijic. His driver was very kind and patient waiting for our delayed flight to arrive. It was great to know that our airport transportation was arranged. Highly recommended, do not hesitate to book!

Lovely studio guesthouse with kitchenette and bathroom, amidst an oasis of tropical gardens one block from the lakeside and near to everything in Ajijic village.
The guesthouse is on one level, with a main space containing a full kitchenette, dining area, bedroom area (double bed and individual bed), one full bathroom with shower, a private patio, and a private garden entrance area. Casa Caoba was built in Ajijic by American writer Neill James in the (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) s as a retreat by the lakeside for expat artists, set within an oasis of palm trees and tropical gardens. This oasis has been preserved till today for you to relax and enjoy its calmness and terrific garden and mountain views. Lie down on a lounger chair and relax at its over a hundred different views of tropical gardens and trees and the mountains. The house is one block from the quiet part of the Malecon (lakeside walkway), very close to local shops and 10 min walk to Ajijic Plaza. We have two parking spaces within the property. We also rent a separate house next door (Zalate house) that can be booked together with Caoba guesthouse, adding a total space for 8-9 people and two full bathrooms. You can check availability of the Zalate house here: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/16137647
The six-corners area of Ajijic is an authentic mexican village neighborhood that will allow you to have a true experience of village life in Mexico very different from the touristic areas of the lakeside. All sorts of convenience shops are at hand for groceries and necessities, including a tortilleria (tortilla bakery) where you can buy freshly baked tortillas throughout the whole day. Walk down one block to the lakeside walkway (Malecon) and relax and enjoy the ever changing lake and mountain views.
  • Fidel is a gem. He's there in a flash if needed. The location was great to get anywhere in town. We were so very comfortable but I really wouldn't fit more than 2 people in there. The beds were extremely comfortable too. Thanks so much

  • Buena elección para ese fin de semana

    Rigo2017-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Poor water pressure And slippery shower They need grab bars And a larger shower curtain to prevent water going on to floor A hand held shower would be better Than shower since poor water pressure makes it difficult to remove soap

    Louie2018-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • This location is absolutely perfect for getting around to all the important locations by foot, bit includes gated off-street parking if you do decide to bring a car. The accommodations are amazing as well - we especially enjoyed relaxing on the patio in the evenings. The kitchenette has everything you need to cook your own meals, but with so many amazing restaurants less than a 10 minute walk away we didn't use it nearly as much as we expected to. Location: 10/10 Value: 10/10

  • Charming Casita. Bed was great. Fidel is an excellent assistant, very pleasant and helpful. I liked the location, private parking and the garden area. I expect to stay again...

  • Pablo and Fidel communicated very well through the whole process. With Pablo's place you really get a feel for the local environment. Close to walking down in Ajijic where the fun is. I would stay again. Very authentic feel in a very cozy location.

    Frank2018-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This charming guesthouse is literally situated in a natural oasis, where variety of bird calls often drown out outside city sounds. Also a great bonus to have a private walled-in patio and washing machine available. I would be happy to stay here again, though I would consider renting the adjoining, larger house if traveling with friends and family.

    Kendre2018-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • Just the perfect spot, beautiful setting and quiet at night. This guest house is close to everything, an easy walk to all parts of town the malecon and hills. The shared yard/garden area has an amazing tree that provides shade and interesting birds, a great place to relax after a day visiting in the area. The guesthouse is setup to cook your own meals, but there are so many good street food venders for dinner why bother. The bed was very comfortable and it's quiet so sleeping was easy. I really liked that you could lock the entry screen door (wrought iron) and leave the front and back door (also has a screen door) open for sleeping. All the windows have screen, I didn't find the area terribly buggy though. It does have a locked entry way to the property so it's double secure. Also, secure parking right out the front entry, very convenient.

Muchas gracias Oskar.

    Christian2018-04-03T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Oskar's casa for about a month mid January and on. As previously reviewed the view of the lake and mountains, breathtaking. The casa itself has everything you need for a short or longer stay. Cooking is a two burner propane stove top, and microwave. Fridge and washing machine. Internet is strong for downloading, streaming, with little, if any delay. The pool clubhouse is not far, most days I was the only one there, except for weekends when the place would fill up with other families, mostly from Guadalajara. The casa is about 500 metres form highway #23. Friendly and courteous security guards greet you as you enter and exit the community. A car was a real asset to my stay. To get this view you ascend at least 100 metres up a switch back of paved road. There are numerous villages and towns with a 20 to 30 minute drive. Jocotepec is 5 minutes west, San Juan Cosala is 7 minutes east, Ajijic is 15 minutes by car and Chapla is about a 30 minute drive to the east. So to sum up, great view, secured area, well maintained grounds, great winter weather, fresh food. Host responds quickly via (Hidden by Airbnb)

  • Bonnie and Terry really are super hosts. They literally and figuratively went out of their way to make sure we had a great stay. The Casita was very clean, comfortable, and private. It was an over all great experience.

  • Bonnie and Terry's place is really magnificient place to stay in the cozy private casita. It was so well appointed and comfortable. Bonnie was so very attentive to all my needs. She made sure that I had everthing I needed to make my stay very enjoyable. Terry also was involved in making sure I had a pleasent stay. I really connected with both Bonnie and Terry and we spent time having wine and discussing some of each others life's experiences . I strongly recommend Bonnie and Terry's Airrbnb listing . It is truly a gem of place to stay close to the centre town. The area is also like living in paradise. I wish both Bonnie and Terry much health and sucees

  • The space is a private casita, comfortable bed, nice linens and everything you need.... and beautiful outdoor spaces. It 's a nice walk to town and there are 2 buses very nearby as well as shops and several nice restaurants. Bonnie is a great hostess, friendly and helpful, and she made my stay so very nice!

  • Bonnie is an angel. We made arrangements to get picked up by her at the airport and she came through for us. The whole airport experience can be quite intimidating and knowing that we had a ride waiting was a lifesaver for us. Bonnie was such a sweetheart. She made us dinner for night number one and offered leftovers for the second night. The room was clean and had everything you’d need for a good stay. Bonnie knows all about the area and was a wonderful resource. She’s the kind of host that will take you places if you want, or leave you alone. We wanted her around and felt we had a new friend. You shouldn’t hesitate in terms of renting Bonnie’s casita. Just do it!

  • Just finished my month long stay with the Shannon’s. Bonnie and Terry were tremendously kind and generous hosts and made me fell welcomed from the get go. Nice private Casita, a refreshing pool and two of the friendliest dogs (Charlie & Finnegan) await you. Good times to be had at the Shannon Hideaway!

    Rick2018-05-15T00:00:00Z
  • Bonnie & Terry could not have been more welcoming. The studio casita is tastefully decorated, and featured a super comfortable bed, a fluffy bathrobe (most welcome on cooler mountain nights), and a terrific library of pocket book thrillers. Even the two dogs greeted me with wagging tails. (Their ginger cat allowed me cheek & under the chin petting privileges.) Very responsive to any & all requests (i.e. a bigger writing desk) while Bonnie went above & beyond by nursing me through a bad bout of the flu from hell.

Beautiful home tucked away in a peaceful gated community in Ajijic. You will feel right at home here with the house's light and airy spaces and numerous outdoor areas. Perfect for a couple or a family.
Beautiful new 2 storey house in "Los Lirios" gated community, directly opposite pool, fully furnished and equipped, ready to be lived in! Gas bbq (connected to gas network), table and chairs on spacious roof terrace with lake and mountain view. There are 3 bathrooms, a large and fully equipped kitchen with loads of storage, laundry room with washing machine and dryer, living and dining rooms, office (also the third bedroom with a sofa bed), 2 bedrooms (master bedroom with a fan and air conditioning, not to mention the balcony with a view of the community area. The second upstairs bedroom has its own small terrace. Both upstairs bedrooms have walk-in closets, built-in safes and full bathrooms with large walk-in showers). As well as the balconies attached to the two upstairs bedrooms, there is a patio downstairs which is perfect for breakfasts. Furthermore, and our personal favourite, is the delightful roof terrace with breathtaking views of both the mountains and lakes. Ajijic is a quintessential Mexican village full of typical restaurants and shops. The house is 5 minutes away from the largest lake in Mexico, perfect for strolling to watch the sunrise or sunset. Walking distance from Walmart, local shops and restaurants, but far enough not to get any noise from the highway. Only 20 minutes from lots of natural thermal spas, 30 minutes to Guadalajara airport, and 45 minutes to the centre of Guadalajara. It's conveniently close to bus stops in case you don't want to drive. There is lots to keep you busy, even if that means relaxing by the pool! The house is in a gated community which makes it very quiet and pleasent to live in. Furthermore, it is directly opposite the pool so you can always step out for a quick dip.
  • We had a great time at Luis and Kate's place in Ajijic. Their house is spacious, cozy and equipped with all the comforts you might wish for. I especially enjoyed the barbecue on the roof terrace, with wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. The house is in walking distance from several local shops, a Wal-Mart and a bunch of incredible taco stands that we visited on a daily-basis. Good communication with the hosts too. Thank you!

    Marco2015-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay in Ajijic. The house is large and light. As mentioned in other reviews, there can be a lot of noise from the neighbouring roosters and the nearby sports field. As well the water treatment plant made the air a bit sour at times. The well-kept complex was very quiet during our stay and we were the only ones using the pool. We walked a lot but renting a golf cart is a great idea if you don't want to fight with the cobblestone streets. We rented horses in La Floresta, a 10 minute walk. The kitchen was well set up but unfortunately the only good chopping knife broke.. we appreciated the coffee maker, multitude of pans, blender, etc. and cooked a lot after visiting the various food markets in the area. There is internet, phone and television, however it took us a while to figure out the tv and its many remotes. The view in the photo is from the main bedroom, it was lovely to sit on the balcony there with morning coffee!

  • Yes, there was coffee available to get us started and much appreciated. The unit was exactly as expected and very comfortable.

  • We enjoyed our stay in this large, well equipped townhouse. The kitchen has everything needed to prepare a meal. As other reviews mentioned, there is the noise of of the nearby roosters. The complex is otherwise very quiet and the gardens and pool area are well maintained. It is within walking distance to bus stops located on the highway. We appreciated the phone, Internet, and TV. We would certainly stay here again.

    Beata2018-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first time in Ajijic and apparently the second renters ever to their home. I booked knowing there would not be internet so I printed maps, restaurant suggestions, etc. Before we got there, they had satellite tv, a land line and internet installed. I was thrilled, but upon arrival the wifi was not working. Laura the house manager worked for days with telemex to get the problem fixed, so after about three days without wifi she was able to get us wifi! What a treat! The owners and the manager did everything they could to make our stay pleasurable. They even supplied us with good sharp knives because I love to cook. The house is really new and nice. The kitchen equipment was top notch. There was a grill on the roof terrace. The washer and dryer was also nice to have. It's in a gated community of about 16 homes. Located just behind Walmart and just down the street from San Antonio square. We rented a golf cart from Lake Chapala Golf Carts. That was a great idea! Walking to Ajijic, going to the market, and exploring the area would have been almost impossible unless you are a strong walker. The cobble stone streets are hard to walk on. The house did not come with instructions and it did not have a 'normal' coffee maker. Hopefully the owners will fix that. The only warning I have about the house is that it is located next to a bunch of roosters. I'm not talking about a couple, I'm talking about 8- 10 in cages. They wake up about 4 am! So my suggestion is to bring ear plugs. I had some with me and they were invaluable! The house and Ajijic were a great value and we will go back!

  • Stayed here from Jan til March (Website hidden by Airbnb) is a great property and is as (Website hidden by Airbnb) is very clean and modern and kept in great condition "as in everything works"......its a terrific location and easy walking to town square (AJIJIC) or San Antonio......Walmart is ten minute walk we found it very central and quiet neighbours.......we used the maid services of Nely who was wonderful and would recommend if you need maid service to contact her through Jose the gatekeeper/gardener......we would have liked to book it for 2017 winter season but where too late..... On arrival Luis the owner had his father meet us and show us around which was very helpful..We would recommend this casa to anyone looking for great accomodations

The ultimate guest room. The entire second floor with your own private bedroom, bathroom and veranda. Separate exterior stair case from the garden to the unit. Within the neighborhood of La Floresta (Upper) in Ajijic. Only 3 block walk into town. Bus stop 2 blocks at the main stop light entrance of La Floresta. Large bathroom with BATHTUB, separate shower and two sinks. Just enough of the necessities for "coffee and" with a small fridge, coffee maker and microwave.

  • I just returned from 2 months in Ajijic and really enjoyed it! This Air BNB is amazing! Terrific space, lovely garden and great, refreshing pool! Close walking distance to the plaza, tasty restaurants and local shops. Walmart certainly walkable or available easily by bus or uber for your return trip after shopping. I joined the hiking group which meets Tues/Fri morning and that also enhanced my trip. It was such a pleasure to wake up to mountain views, sit in the garden and have coffee and take a dip in the pool in the afternoon. Michael was very responsive to questions and a real asset. I would definitely stay here again. Lovely established, quiet neighborhood and a super area to explore!! Thanks so much, Michael, for providing such a beautiful place to enjoy life!!

    Sandra2018-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, where to start?! The place is amazing! Our room was so beautiful and well appointed. Gorgeous marble floors & tub, authentic plaster walls and the most stunning brick ceilings and Coppola’s! A couple things to consider: it’s Mexico.. not the states so the plumbing (anywhere I’m guessing) takes some finesse. We took a few seriously chilly showers and you have to keep the drains covered to contain the...aromas. We just bought some incense at the market to light at night and viola, Problem solved! Also, the WiFi was slower than a week in jail, but, it was also the busiest week in Mexico with a massive influx of visitors for Holy Week, so, just go outside and enjoy the magnificent weather and food! Last, the pictures of the garden do not do it justice! I could’ve spent the entire trip hanging out in that courtyard. It was absolute heaven. Our host, Mike, was an absolute pleasure to work with. He offered pick up and drop off service to and from the airport, car rental, and responded to us promptly whenever we reached out. After thoroughly touring the area and looking at multiple places, I was so glad we chose this one. I still honestly think it’s the absolute best there is! We definitely plan on staying here again next time we come out and you should too (except the weekends we want to visit;-)

    Michael2018-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • Michael was a very professional, knowledgeable and attentive host, including picking us up and dropping us off at the PV airport (for a reasonable fee). He thoughtfully made sure we had all of the food essentials we needed for the first night by walking us through the local supermarket on the way to the house. The guest house was even better than it looked online. The private deck and the courtyard grounds and pool were impeccably maintained. The house is in an elegant neighborhood within walking distance to downtown Ajijic (< 1mile) if you don't mind a brisk walk. A few nice little restaurants are a couple of blocks away. Very safe neighborhood. Very friendly town. Would definitely stay here again.

    Joel2018-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • The guest suite is in a good location, within walking distance to Walmart to the east and to the Plaza area to the west. The suite is in a lovely area, La Floresta, which is very safe. Michael was very attentive to all communication.

    Sherry2018-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • My first viisit to Ajijic as well as my first time to use Airbnb as a guest was everything I had hoped for and more. My story book room was accessed by a "secret" curving stairwell a corner of the garden which then opened up to a welcoming rooftop view of the gardens and roof tops of Upper La Floresta. Perfect for catching up on some much needed rest! The traditional domed ceiling and cupola (and crystal chandelier) would have been sufficient to raise my spirits but I also was treated to bird songs and the scent of jasmine gently wafting throughout my room. A surprise 7 foot marble tiled tub was situated just right for privacy and inspiration in the well lighted bathroom with its own peek-a-view windows. Just outside the room, a large awning sheltered a table for four and a rattan chair perfect for curling up with a book. I met the two women guests in the main house below who were regular Ajijic visitors. They had their own very private arbor where they had coffee and caught up with email and phone calls to family in the states but still greeted me each morning with warm smiles and tips on retaurants and life in the slow lane. They also let me have a look inside the elegant but not overly large main house which I could well imagine renting with friends and family on my next trip. Coming from the Lake Tahoe area, I thought I might miss swimming in quiet, picturesque but sadly polluted Lake Chapala. A few brave souls could be seen skirting the beach in kyaks. However, there are fish (no one eats) and a density of heron, egrets, duck and other birds to inspire me to buy a bird chart and nature video in the room for the next guests. Now what were those bright bouganvilla-colored birds flitting through the mango trees next door back at the villa? I was also lucky to have the property owner who was also staying at the property to guide me to the best of the spa and alternative healing services of the area. The village was a ten minute walk for the freshest food, restaurants, and of course, local arts and crafts. The Tuesday market, was full of vetted natural vendors with goods from moringa oil, to the best cheeses, breads, young coconut, honey, chocolate, curries. ( Don't miss the fresh macadamia cream and agave (tequila) beverage direct from the farmer/producer). A licensed coffee bean vendor has a parking spot on the street a 7 minutes walk from the villa. A lovely coffee shop with outdoor seating under shade trees is right outside the La Floresta neighborhood "gate." Good walking shoes were a must on cobble streets. Wifi and cell service were excellent at the villa. Taxis were easy to call but the buses, were also reliable, clean and safe. Speaking of safety, what a relief to know that locals don't carry guns and are...

  • Lovely room and great hosts. Our hosts went above and beyond to help us out when we had a difficult issue to resolve unrelated to the unit we stayed in. We enjoyed our stay and recommend this unit.

    Carole2017-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • B’s Private Guest Wing has a lot to offer a single person, or couple, visiting Ajijic. Entering the grounds of B’s is impressive and immediately relaxing. The pool is just the right size for a refreshing dip or relaxing float and lounge chairs offer comfort for sunning. The lush garden grounds are shared with those staying in the main part of the house and numerous species of bird life. A flight of stairs leads to an impressive sized private patio offering sun, shade and a large table with comfortable chairs. The spacious room is outfitted with a comfortable queen-size bed, fridge (larger than a bar fridge), microwave and coffee maker. Plates, cupsl, cutlery and an ongoing supply of bottled water were also provided. A long narrow table worked well for our ‘meal prep’ area. The huge bathroom boosts two sinks, separate shower and a massive tub (which we didn’t use). Turning the hot water tap on for some time was necessary before it reached the guest wing but when it did there was plenty. There were a couple of other idiosyncrasies, as there are in any aging home, but nothing which would deter us from staying again. One of our favorite memories, from our month-long stay, was waking to look up into the domed ceiling and watch the sunrise glowing brighter through windows of the cupola (where, just an hour or so before, we could see a bright morning star); a marvelous way to start any day. Oh, the bedroom also has a smart tv, but we didn’t turn it on during our stay as there was so much more to enjoy. The upscale ‘gated’ neighborhood of spacious homes, lush gardens and birdlife, is well placed for discovering Ajijic and its neighboring communities. We didn’t have a car but found within blocks some of Ajijic’s favored restaurants and eateries, grocery store, salon, Ajijic’s fascinating and shop-worthy Wednesday market and, if you forgot anything at home, there’s Walmart. Buses stop by the neighborhood’s entrance, making travel to other Lake Chapala communities fun, easy and inexpensive. A pleasant walk will take you to Ajijic’s main square, the Lake Chapala Society (offering so many to-do options for us gringos), and the famous, not-to-be-missed, Ajijic Malecon. Host, Micheal Herz, well deserves his ‘super-host’ status. His response time is impressive and he dealt with our few inquiries with friendly professionalism and we appreciated his arranging reliable transportation to the Guadalajara airport; giving us even more reasons to return to Ajijic.

  • When I was there my place was on the third floor. Actually my room was the third floor, no elevator. Nice balcony where you can barbeque if you so desire. So if you have climbing issues you might want to rethink this. On the plus side I was informed by Mary that the apartment in the garden area should available soon. Since I was there first AirBnB guest they used me as a sounding board. I asked and they responded favorably. I would stay there again when I go back. There is an American Legion Post just down the street open to the public. They have a kitchen open from 9 to 3 with very good food plus a full bar. On Tuesdays they offer a Filet Minon for 115 MXN ! It was very good. Another good place to eat was Alfredos California located across from the milacon. Enjoy !

    Bob2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome view and location of Chapala. Incredibly easy to get anywhere in the town from the apartment. Tony and Mary were such sweet people, Mary was extremely helpful with any questions we had as first timers in Chapala - even set us up a ride from the airport to the apartment for a reasonable price. Hot water is more luke warm but not terrible, typical to the area. Bar is great, kitchen is stocked, WIFI works great, AC works great(although the weather is so great you hardly need it!) Wonderful value in this AirBnb! Great Job!

    Clifford2017-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Mary and Tony's third floor apartment is tastefully appointed and comfortable. The south-facing sunny large balcony became our living room in the treetops with views over rooftops. We were lucky to be guests on a Saturday when they host a potluck gathering for guests in the tranquil courtyard. Their warm hospitality was so remarkable. We felt at home.

    Dennis2017-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location, is on the third floor so be prepared for some steps. (Not a problem for me). I loved the privacy of the room and the beautiful balcony. The place is located near everything you need, all within walking distance. Amazing! Thank you!

    Zomi2018-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent location. Spotless rooms. Half a block to a great American breakfast (cheap, too) at the American Legion. Walking distance to everything. The best value in Chapala, hands down.

    Peter2017-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • The location of Mary and Tony's place is perfect: near the American Legion (for a quick, inexpensive breakfast or lunch), Chritiania Park, the Malecon, and all the shops and restaurants. Further away, but within walking distance, are various markets (for fruits, vegetables, meats, and cheeses), supermarkets, and the bus station. Kudos to Mary and Tony for having clean and comfortable accommodations, which they're always improving (new solar water heater went in last week)! As someone traveling alone, I appreciated the weekly potluck dinners in the garden as an opportunity to network with others and especially solicit ideas from the hosts.

    Maryann2018-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Mary and Tony are wonderful people. We especially love their balcony. Their place is very easy to find, very central to everything. You will love the Malecon walk, beautiful sunset.

Nice and rustic apartment right in the center of Ajijic. It's located half of block from La Plaza and just three blocks away from the lake. You'll find a lot of kind of stores around and basically all you need it's pretty close, like restaurants, a library, a hospital, grocery stores and more. It could be a lil bit loud sometimes, so if you're the kind of person that don't like the noise, this might not be the place for you to stay. -There's no parking spot -Shared patio Two nights minimum

  • Steff was waiting for me when I arrived from the airport (along with her adorable daughter). She gave me a warm welcome, a brief tour, and showed me how to work the various keys. The apartment was conveniently located just off the village plaza, and this enabled me to pop out for the many exciting events going on there, including parades and musical performances of all kinds. Overall, I enjoyed my stay (and the apartment) very much. The bed could have been more comfortable (I hate the plastic mattress cover) but this was not a huge issue. Steff considerately left several extra blankets in case of cold weather (and a space heater) and plenty of clean towels as well. It was great to have a fridge and microwave, as well as a stove, and cabinets fully stocked with dishes and even spices. I felt comfortable with the level of security there behind the old wooden door to the street, and it was clean. I also enjoyed the sunny courtyard where I could hang out the clothes I washed out by hand. I never could have afforded a 2-week stay in Ajijic without the help of Steff's extremely cute and historic Airbnb accommodations. I'd definitely recommend it to a friend who wanted to stay in the Ajijic area. Muchas gracias, Steff!

Large Private Bedroom with king sized bed, sitting area and private bath in my hillside home overlooking Lake Chapala and Ajijic Village. Very secure with gated courtyard and security system. Mirador with fantastic 360 degree views, covered terrace with gas grill, wet bar, and laundry facilities. VOIP US phone. Note that temperatures in the summer months often reach the upper 80's late in the afternoon, but with A/C you'll be comfortable.
A second smaller bedroom with adjacent bath is also available for a 3rd or 4th guest. The upstairs bedroom has a 24" Flat Screen TV and Blu-Ray/DVD/USB Media Player and a new King sized bed (not in pictures). Guests have access to an extensive library of Movies and TV Shows.
There is a restaurant a half block away that serves a great breakfast.
  • Had a great week Ajijic staying at Mike's beautiful gated hacienda.. Nice room upstairs with a territorial view of the lake, nice evening breezes. The wifi was good, bed comfy & area quiet at night. The location was perfect for exploration of all the different lake towns - San Antonio (yoga), San Juan Cosala (thermal spa) and Chapala (art, shopping) - all a 10 peso bus ride away! Mike is a great host - knowledgeable & funny, giving me pointers on the area & ins/outs of ex-pat lifestyle. I am envious. Having traveled all over the world, I am very impressed with the charm & people of Lake Chapala, its wonderful GDL airport & access to the gorgeous colonial architecture of Guadalajara & Tlaquepaque. So vibrant! I go, to come again..

    Donna Deva2014-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Both the house and Mike were great. I was a little uneasy about a room in someone else's home but I was totally comfortable with Mike -- smart guy, helpful, considerate, everything you'd want for this situation. I was in work mode and when the internet went down Mike was on the provider's doorstep in a flash to get it repaired, something I really appreciated. The house is several blocks off the main road so it's quiet and street parking was fine. If you're walking you'll feel the altitude coming up the hill for a few days. The room was spacious with a nice view and direct access to the rooftop terrace with a spectacular view. The cats pretty much avoided me. Got good restaurant recommendation from Mike and got invited to the Saturday morning walk of the Hash House Harriers where I met a lot of nice people. I did a one month membership to the Lake Chapala Society, a good resource to have. Best thing was probably the hot springs in San Juan Cosala, the next village to the west. Probably a zoo on weekends, so try to go during the week. Here's a link. (Website hidden by Airbnb) I'd be happy to stay with Mike again in a heartbeat. Great guy, great place.

  • Mike was right there when we arrived, very welcoming and showed us around the whole house- a fantastic house in a great location. The views from the mirador were stunning! Mike also took us to shopping for groceries and on another trip showed us around Chapala. Would definitely come back to this awesome host!

    Bill2016-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Mike was so kind as to pick me up at the nearby bus station...which was a welcomed relief after a long day of travel and having a bunch of luggage. The space was perfect for me - as it was essentially my own separate "wing" with bedroom, bathroom and access to the roof-deck. But I was still able to use the common areas, and felt completely comfortable to do so. The house was well stocked, on all levels, and felt easy to be in during my 12 days there. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again, and thank Mike for all of his hospitality!

    Lee2016-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • My first experience with Airbnb. It was exactly as advertised...Mike was a friendly knowledgeable host who was willing to answer any questions or fill any need. The room was large and had everything we might need, including the bathroom where even mouthwash, toothpaste and a spare toothbrush were provided...since we used to run a B&B we appreciated the extra amenities. Thanks for a great experience Mike.

    Donna2015-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great deal. Good location, comfortable house, gracious host. I recommend it.

    Craig2014-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Mike was a great host. He took me sightseeing around Ajijic and nearby neighborhoods, over to Chapala for a walk on the Malecom, and to stores so I could buy food and drink. He was very helpful...even repaired my broken glasses. His cats were charming and I felt at home for the week. I found the walk into the center of town good exercise and not a problem, but having a car there would be nice for those with walking issues. Both the room and bath are quite large and well furnished. I loved large windows across the room and views! I'd definately stay there again. Thanks again, Mike, for making my week so nice.

    Jean2016-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Mike was a great host. The house and my room were clean and neat. Mike treated me like family. He took me to places to shop and was very nice and hospitable. He helped with information and helped me get a ride back to the airport. I would highly reccomend staying there.

  • Bob and Sharon were great hosts; friendly and accommodating. The casita was like a little cozy cottage and the location for someone new to the area could not have been better. Pool was fabulous, well maintained and a real bonus. However, TV is exclusively in Spanish. Really enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend it, especially for a solo traveler.

Comfortable 2 bedroom 2.5 bathroom with a pool. Home away from home within the neighborhood of La Floresta (Upper) in Ajijic. Only 3 block walk into town. Bus stop 2 blocks at the main stop light entrance of La Floresta. Each bedroom has its own full bath. Master has a BATHTUB!!!
  • This is a big home with an exceptional courtyard. The weather was cool. It is located in a very nice neighborhood that is within walking distance to many restaurants and grocery stores. If you don't want to walk, there is a bus at the entrance that will take you where you want to go. Very enjoyable stay.

  • This home is spacious and comfortable. It is set back from the main road so it is quiet, but it is still within easy walking distance to shopping and restaurants.

  • Everything you've read is true: Michael's an awesome host. Can't imagine a better one. Note that Michael is the rental manager; the owner, a very nice older woman from California (the "B" in "B's La Floresta"), happened to be visiting in the casita when we were there. The main house at #113 is also quite nice, and suited us well as a base for exploring around lakeside (our second visit), but also as a chill hangout when we didn't feel like doing much. Comfortable, classically decorated, and has everything you need. Very easy to settle into. As expected, we didn't want to leave. We also appreciated the pressurized (and filtered) tap water and the better-than-expected internet service -- in fact, the TV is set up for streaming. Not that we watched any "TV," but we were certainly able to stream a movie from our home Plex server with no issues, and I spent some lazy afternoons with MLB baseball streaming on my laptop. Note that there is a separate, second-story apartment on the main house that may or may not be occupied. Thanks to traditional Mexican construction, the structure is virtually sound-proof. You won't hear any footsteps. If 2 bed / 3 baths in Upper La Floresta works for you, this is definitely the place. Very pleasant and well-run. Thanks, Michael!

  • The place was very well situated . High end district. Michael is very helpful . Quality /Price 10/10

  • The house is spacious, well situated and appointed. Pool area is lovely. Michael is a very thorough responsive host.

  • B's La Floresta house was a wonderful home to stay. Old world Mexican charm throughout the house. Beautiful furnishings, well equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. Bathrooms were nice, with lots of storage. Great utility room with washer and dryer. The grounds were fabulous. Beautiful trees and flowers throughout. My favorite time was early morning watching the sunrise from the mountain view and listening to all the beautiful birds. So relaxing. Within easy walking distance to grocery market about 1/2 mile away. The restaurant at the bottom of the hill from La Floresta is fabulous and highly recommend. Walmart is about 1.5 mi to the east and the Ajijic Center is about 1.5 miles to the west. All within walking distance. If you get tired of walking the bus runs frequently along the Carretera for 8 pesos. I highly recommend B's house and would not hesitate to stay there again. Michael, the host, was easy to work with. Speaks English, great communication and took care of any issues quickly. He also does Airport pickup and return, at an extra cost, which worked out great for us. I've only been home a week and I'm ready to go back.

    Pam2017-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • The place was extremely spacious. We loved the courtyard and pool, It was a much larger outdoor space than it appeared in the photos. Enjoyed the pool in the daytime and the stars at night. Upper La Floresta is about a 30 minute walk from the village and the malecon. Good exercise but not too convenient. Micheal is a very responsible and responsive host. Any minor problems were attended to promptly.

    Joan2018-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! This place was incredible. The description and pictures were very accurate. The grounds were huge and beautiful. The house is huge and was tastefully decorated. The location in upper La Floresta was perfect. Easy walking distance to Ajijic Centro and San Antonio. Bus stop was only 5 minutes away. Michael was an excellent host. Picked us up at the airport and drove us to the property. He showed us everything we needed to know about the property including internet access. Michael has a lot of knowledge about the Lakeside area. Do not be afraid to pick his brain for any tips or information. My wife and I highly recommend this property. We will return again.

  • Tony and Mary were just walking down the street when I was getting out of the cab. Very friendly greeting. Found out that it was Tony's birthday that day and they were holding a party. Got an invite to that activity. Showed my the space, being from Minnesota my first impression was that it was too small. However it was just the right size. Mary gave some great suggestions. Their place is very centrally located. Easy walk to get to the bus, the beach, the American Legion club (less than a block) and the Mercado. On Saturday they had a potluck for current and former guests. Was a lot of fun. Definitely recommend for a single person in the unit I stayed in.

    Terrence2018-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at 5 different places while in the "Lakeside Area" and Tony & Mary's was amazing! It was hard to get in there, every time I was about to book someone beat me to it. Here's the real amazing part, probably the most quiet place I stayed in -- but the BEST part was the hosts having a shared Saturday dinner in the garden. We sat around with family, spoke in English, and shared meals and margaritas and good stories with their family and other "guests" in their property. That was simply the best part of my travels to Chapela. Thanks Tony and Mary!!

  • This is a quiet and comfy place if you want to have a calm and relaxing time in Chapala. Guests are very friendly and attentive.

  • This location is wonderfully close to everything in Chapala. You can’t ask for friendlier hosts. The casita is perfect for one, super clean, with extras to make my stay the best. The jardin is peaceful, beautiful, and would return tomorrow if my schedule allowed.

  • If your looking for The May Fair Hotel, or the Hyatt, or the Ritz Hotels, this ain't it. BUT if your looking for the garden of Eden, look no further, this IS it, Magnificent beautiful gardens surrounding solar heated warm swimming pool. Three Casita's may to some people but a tad austere, but that is what a vacation is all about, something different from the norm. Large screen TV with hundreds of NETFLIX movies. It is truly fully furnished with every conceivable kitchen appliance you could think of. Great hosts Paula, and Scott, so accommodating and helpful with four small loveable friendly dogs, two talented singing parrots. Grocery stores and GREAT restaurants all within a short walking distance. frequent buses into town centre. Truly a vacation to remember. Thanks Scott & Paula had a great vacation...and hope to return soon....Robert & Gloria Kelly, Surrey, B.C.

  • We received a warm welcome and the host were very helpful in all area's of our stay. Great people , must be they are Canadian, haha. Very helpful in answering a lot of questions regarding their move to Mexico. Thanks Paula and Scott. See you later this year. Blessings

  • Our first ever Airbnb visit (and review). Scott was an excellent host - gave us lots of info and restaurant recommendations (and privacy as well). He arranged a driver to pick us up from the airport. The grounds are lush and beautiful. Our casita was cozy and clean. The tap water had a bit of a sulfur smell (probably great for the skin!) Great location in a real Mexican neighborhood. All in all, would recommend!

    Robert2017-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Scotts pool and garden, its awesome!

  • Get immersed in old Mexico culture on this magnificent property. We enjoyed exploring Ajijic from this location. Everything was excellent and we would book again.

    Brad2017-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first time to visit the Lake Chapala area. Scott was very helpful in suggesting transportation to and from the airport, good restaurants in the area, and was very patient with all of our questions and concerns. The Casita was just as described and very clean. We were within reasonable walking distance to the malecón on the lake, the plaza and many good restuarants and a very good city bus system runs right in front of the home! The gardens are beautiful here and very peaceful. Scott and Paula provide a very nice retreat for people wanting to experience the Ajijic, Lake Chapala area and at a very resonable price! We highly recommend them!

    Greg2017-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for an exceptional casita, this is the place. Right on the bus line. Very clean and well cared for. Safe area. Scott is an exceptional host. Very attentive to any need. Knows where to eat, where to shop, things to do. I was missing my dog and loved having his around. Only one of the three cats came out to greet us. It’s really a family atmosphere with pool, gardens, poker afternoons, if interested, and friendly visitors in the other casitas. Stay a week, stay months. You can’t go wrong here.

    Pam2018-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great location, in west Ajijic. A spacious property with beautiful grounds, removed from the congestion & noise but close enough to walk to the square. If you don't like to walk or, if you're going to Chapala, the eastbound bus stops right outside their door. Scott & Paula were fabulous hosts. They gave us all the privacy we wanted, but also joined us for some great conversations at the poolside table. They gave us good tips and advice for our exploration and shared their story about moving to Ajijic. We felt very safe and their furry kids gave us added comfort, knowing that they were alway on high alert of unfamiliar people in the area. Otherwise, they were quiet. :)

PRIVATE: separate entrance and ensuite bath. COMFORTABLE: queen bed and 2 small sofas. BENEFITS: in room coffee maker and private phone plus your own microwave and refrigerator. Easy access to the laundry room PLUS use of the pool, patio and outdoor kitchen.
We are located 2 blocks from the west end of the Ajijic malecon on Lake Chapala. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the plaza, but the public bus passes our home about every 10 minutes. Our wonderful next door neighbor, Sam, runs a taxi service. There are several small grocery stores within a block. The room, itself, is accessed by a completely private entrance inside the property. There is no need for any interaction with the main house. Just outside your door there is a niche with a refrigerator, microwave, dishes and utensils. These are strictly for your own use. Close by is the laundry room that can be accessed from the alley. The alley also leads to the back of the property where you can use the swimming pool, outdoor kitchen and patio furnishings. In the room, there is a coffee maker, comfortable seating area, lots of books to peruse and an ensuite bath with shower. There is also a cable TV and private phone for local calls as well as wi-fi internet.
Ours is a very Mexican neighborhood, and we love it. There are a few little shops, but mostly it is quiet except when there are festivals. On those occasions, our street comes quite alive. There are also, occasionally, neighborhood dogs that will bark. If you cannot tolerate that, Mexican village homes might be a problem for you.
  • Great room in convenient location. Nice shower with plenty of hot water and super comfy bed. Highly recommend!

    Fernando2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Although the room itself was lovely and the neighborhood had easy access, this is my first Airbnb stay that was a bit "less than perfect". Why? Amenities were great, Jon kind and considerate, but an 8-day stay stay included not a single cleaning or sweeping, and this is Mexico, where housekeeping is cheap. Entering the stairs and Hall I was treated to the sight of several dead roaches. I did some sweeping myself with a tiny broom. There were water problems such that both pressure and heat were lacking off and on throughout. Next door there are loud barking dogs that serenade the night. I actually spent a few nights at a friend's place just for quiet.

    Kathleen2016-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • Andy and John have a beautiful home in an equally beautiful setting with very nice accommodations at an affordable price. They were gracious hosts, and we enjoyed seeing and hearing about their many travels. We hope to return next year!

    Denise2017-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • The space was as pictured and as described. It was very clean and everything worked. I loved that there was plenty of hot water and water pressure. I really appreciated having the fridge and microwave. The location was within walking distance from all the sights I wanted to see. There were several parades that passed right below my window during my stay. What a bonus! (Note: the room is lovingly decorated with art, books, souvenirs and artifacts from John's & Andrea's travels to China, Japan, SE Asia, India, etc. therefore consider whether you will mind being in Mexico, in a room surrounded by Asian decor.)

    Susan2017-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Wow - my own hot water heater and hot water in the bathroom sink - a first for me in MX. Though in an active neighborhood with the room directly above a main street, it is surprisingly peaceful. The garden around pool is gorgeous. The bed is super comfy and there are lots of good pillows and quality linens (in bathroom as well) another first for me in MX.

    Kassandra2017-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place, antique, cozy and very clean. Close to all action and sights are not far. Place to experience village life in reality. John and Andrea are excellent hosts and provide all necessary help and guidance. Nice place for good R&R and enjoyable walks and/or hikes.

    Jai2017-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • Andrea and John were incredibly warm and welcoming hosts! We arrived rather jet-lagged and travel worn, and the room was exactly what we needed (and wanted)! We immediately felt relaxed and at home. The courtyard (with sitting area and beautiful pool) was one of our favorites. We spent a bit of time lounging and working on our computers poolside. We also thought the location was perfect: located in a less touristy area of town, you're easily able to walk to everything.

Richard met us when we arrived (late) and took all the time we needed to tell us about the property. He made sure we were ready to begin our morning in case we didn’t see them before we left. He made sure we were comfortable before leaving us. Jacqueline and Richard met with us and talked as long as we wanted to, chatting about life in Ajijic and anything else that came to mind. El Zalate house is set within an oasis of tropical vegetation one block away from Ajijic's lakefront walkway (malecon). It is set in a calm, relaxing garden environment and you will love the experience of staying in an authentic traditional Mexican village house with lots of space and gardens. The plaza is a 12 min walk and five small grocery stores are within a minute walk, nice to forget about your car in days.
El Zalate house was built in Ajijic by American writer Neill James in the (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) s as a retreat by the lakeside for expat artists set within an oasis of palm trees and tropical gardens. This oasis has been preserved till today for you to relax and enjoy its calmness and terrific garden and mountain views. Lie down on a lounger chair or a hammock and relax at its fantastic terrace and 800 sqm (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) sqft) of tropical gardens and trees. The house is all on one level, with a fireplace, indoor dining area, kitchen, living area, terrace, one full bathroom and two bedrooms organized as follows: - Master bedroom 1 (king size bed) - Bedroom 2 (double bed and bunker bed) The house is one block from the quiet part of the Malecon (lakeside walkway), very close to local shops and 10 min walk to Ajijic main square (Plaza). We have two parking spaces within the property (off-street and gated). We also rent a separate guesthouse studio (casita) that can be booked together with the Zalate house, adding space for 2-3 more people and one full bathroom. You can check the availability of the guesthouse (Casa Caoba) here https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/20504992
  • This home is in a great location and the yard is wonderful. We enjoyed our short stay there.

  • A great old house with high ceilings and lots of natural light. A very comfortable place to stay. The Six Corners neighborhood is away from the bustle of the Plaza Principal, but not too far; and only a few minutes walk to the malecón. I highly recommend Casa del Zalate.

    Robert2018-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • We were three adults...visiting Ajicic for a 12 day period. this property offered my family good value, a great location...and Ajicic is a jewel of a visit. 1. This casa is particularly well situated. It sits within a secure, large area with two other properties. It is a minute from well-know 6 Corners where you can access a little Mexican "suburb" with all the amenities you need for quick, day to day living - milk, eggs, fruit, a butcher, haircut...mops, brooms. 2. the communication is thorough and almost instant. This is a well managed property. Fidel is your on the ground contact...and he is kind, thorough, informed and quick to respond. 3. the kitchen is very well (Website hidden by Airbnb) is primal...but this is an older home. You could easily cook all your meals if you wished - tho why would you want to when eating out is so very affordable. 4. there is a washing machine and clothes line available for rinsing your clothes 5. yes...lots of parking 6. we have suggested to Pablo that additional lighting would greatly enhance his property...they are such a thorough lot that i suspect this will happen quite quickly.

  • This home was perfect for my small family. It literally had everything we could need. Toys for the kids, all kitchen supplies, super comfortable beds... I’d definitely stay here again!

  • We had a wonderful stay at Casa del Zalate. It is perfect for those wishing a peaceful place to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Lake Chapala and the cute little village of Ajijic. The house was exactly as described by Pablo. It was spacious, clean, and well equipped. We loved sitting in the big screen room. The garden surrounding the house give it such a peaceful atmosphere. It also keeps the house cool and comfortable. The location is great. Two blocks from the lake and there are plenty of restaurants, taco stands, and little grocery shops very close to the house. About a 10 minute walk to the main plaza.

  • Pablo's place was amazing! We really enjoyed our stay and Fidel, the property manager, was incredibly accessable and helpful. Would absolutely stay at Pablo's place again!

  • We enjoyed our six-week stay. Pablo was extremely helpful and friendly. The house is spacious, comfortable and all is as described in the website. The screened porch was our favorite space to relax and entertain guests. The garden with its green vegetation, colorful flowers and beautiful birds surrounds the house and provides a restful retreat. It a was treat to be within walking distance to the fruit market, tortilla shop, meat shop and restaurants as well as downtown. We made Ajijic our base for day and weekend trips to Guadalajara, Tequila, Tlaquepaque and the archeological site of Guachimontones. Other than the wifi which was very slow and sometimes not available at all, we were extremely pleased with the house and Pablo's responsiveness. We can't wait to go back to Pablo's house in beautiful Ajijic.

    lili2017-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • What a find! Pablo's house is fabulous. It's set back from the road, so you don't hear anything except the birds. It has a great private yard and the treehouse was perfect for my daughter. The house itself is beautifully decorated with local art. The screened-in porch was the perfect space to pass hours eating and relaxing. The beds were super comfortable as well. I highly recommend Pablo's house

  • David has a beautiful home that has a fantastic view of Lake Chapala. While he no longer lives there, he's readily available if problems arise. During our stay the guest rooms were rented by long-term (Website hidden by Airbnb) who would play loud music late at night and early in the morning. Otherwise the place is clean and coffee and an orange juice drink are provided for breakfast.

  • This place is great. Extremely well appointed: shampoo, soap, towels, etc. The terrace from the roof has one of the best views in town, they say, and I believe. It's only a block from the boardwalk -- I took a beautiful walk in the morning, along with a ton of other foreigners that come to Ajijic. I was a little concerned about the "shared bathroom", but it's almost like a private one. You just have to cross the office to get to it from Bedroom 2, I think we were in. Technically, other guests could use it, but they all have their own bathrooms and showers, so they might only use the toilet if they were using the living room or something. We only stayed for one night, but some of the other guests were long-termers: 2 months, 6 months, and a year staying. If I were staying for a while, I'd want to bring hangers, slippers, and a bathrobe. Highly recommend!

As a traveller myself I understand comfort and have made the house very cozy. One guest described it as "the CUTEST thing I've ever seen ... love it!" It's on an unusually quiet and safe residential street with wonderful neighbors. It's just a few minutes walk to the Lake Chapala Society, the Plaza, the Carreterra, the Malecon, restaurants, shops, services, and bus lines.
I fell in love with this charming rustic home at Miguel Blanco #4 the minute I walked through its blue door into a lush tropical garden. The main house is light and open with excellent air flow. It has a kitchen, dining room, living room, den with a desk and sofa, one queen bedroom, and a bathroom with a shower that has a window that opens to the garden so you feel like you are showering outside. The guest room is a separate "casita" with 2 twin beds and a bathroom with shower separate from the house, 20' across the outside patio. Closet space is abundant in both. The outside patio has 2 reclining lounges and a table and chairs perfect for afternoon reading or snoozing. There are stairs up to the rooftop patio where a table and 6 chairs offer an entertaining opportunity with soothing mountain views day or night. The laundry machines are in the stone "bodega" in the lush garden.
This is the best block in the most quiet and walkable area of Ajijic. Parking is available on the street or rent a spot in a nearby car park. Major bus lines are nearby.
  • The house is located in old Ajijic, a delightful historic area with a super restaurant right on the corner. We loved the house. The light fixtures project lovely shadows on ceilings and walls. Everything is perfecto!

    Mary2017-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Although I did not meet Loretta, we stayed in touch via email and she constantly gave suggestions and answered questions, as did Anthony, the helpful manager. The house is roomy, comfortable, and tastefully decorated. The garden provides a lovely entrance, as well as wonderful fragrances. And there are various choices in the area for great restaurants. I recommend this place to anyone visiting Ajijic. It's perfect.

    Sherry2017-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Live in a lovely, safe and quiet neighborhood, enjoy a comfortable and well appointed home, and walk to everything. Loretta and her property manager Anthony will make you feel welcome, answer every question and go above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect. Bonus: some of the best restaurants with cuisines from around the world.

  • A gem in the heart of Ajijic. Great location, accommodations...very comfortable, colorful and inviting. We would love to return here.

  • I spent a week at Loretta's charming, well-located home. It is in perfect condition and both Loretta and her property manager were responsive and wonderful to deal with, from start to finish. I would go back and fully recommend it.

  • Casa Monarca was the perfect home for a first time visitor to Ajijic. It is cozy yet spacious with its two bathrooms patio, garden and rooftop terrace. The kitchen was well equipped with everything a person needs to prepare meals just like at home. The bed was comfortable and the decor made us feel right at home. Just a couple of blocks from Ajijic's main square and a block from the lake, it is in a perfect location to explore on foot all of Ajijic's downtown attractions. Across the street is one of our favorite restaurants, Teocintle. We must have eaten there at least a half dozen times. The property manager, Anthony met us upon arrival and was always just a phone call away for whatever needs we might have. He was professional and friendly and we left having made yet another friend. The owner Loretta, was always available in case we had any questions. She made our first Airbnb experience a real pleasure. We made many new fiends in Ajijic who are encouraging us to return. When we do, we won't hesitate to return to Casa Monarca.

    Rick2017-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • If you are coming to Ajijic and need a place to stay, you can stop looking because you've found it! We stayed at Loretta's for the month of June and all I can say is, it's perfect! First off, the location is ideal -- right down in the thick of things but not compromised by loud music, dogs, etc. You are in El Centro, just blocks from the Lake Chápala Society, restaurants, bars, and shops. The local bus stops just ½ a block away and the ATM, bank. Pharmacy, market, Malecon and Plaza are all within easy walking distance. (Don't miss eating at the little restaurant Teocentle, just across the street and half a block up to Constitution -- great food and Roberto, the owner, is wonderful. We also really enjoyed Go Bistro, located above the Careterra on Marcos Castellanos. The chef, Pedro, is delightful and his food amazing!) Loretta also has the absolute BEST hired help. Ellie, the housekeeper, is very detailed and thorough. She is very sweet and keeps the place looking great! Anthony Is extremely reliable, always on time and works non-stop. He is very respectful and will do whatever is necessary to make sure you have a good stay. He is always so upbeat, and always with a smile He has been invaluable! The house itself was very attractive and comfortable and we loved every minute we were there. I found the kitchen well stocked with quality items and really appreciated the plastic containers for left overs -- so many Airbnb's don't provide this or will only have containers without lids! Also do you know what a pleasure it is to use SHARP knives? Often kitchen items in other Airbnb's look like they came out of a second hand store -- don't get me wrong, that normally works for me -- but this kitchen was so attractive, and well stocked with quality items, I felt like it compelled respect. But that's the opinion I had of the home altogether -- We so enjoyed all the unique fixtures, artwork, the star lights outside, the monkey lamp -- I could go on or you could come see for yourself! I promise you, upon entering through the garden door, you will be most delighted at the choice you made.

  • Where do I begin? First, you see what is waiting for you as you work your way around the beautiful lawn, elegant home, swimming pool, to the outdoor staircase. Up you go and just to the left. The door at the top of the stairs. Take in the beauty of the room for a moment until you get distracted by doors leading out to the (did I say "private"?) patio. You are surrounded by nature. 360 degree views from the terrace. A peek at the lake, literally at the front door. And it is upstairs and yes, private. Then there are Roseann and Tony, your gracious hosts. A fruit basket every morning. Fresh, clean drinking water. A little coffee maker and coffee to give you a jump on the day. Enjoy the room. Now go down to the lake. Walk to the town square where vendors and coffee await. Step into a shop to see what hidden treasures are there. Maybe walk around and see the colors of buildings so bright and happy everywhere. Just as you will be, here in Ajijic.

  • Visited in July. Not so many tourist. Hurray. Monsoon Weather. Average temps days 70 to 76F. Nights Rainy. Very Breezy and 60 F Great Sleeping. We woke up feeling like we were in a tropical treehouse. The view of lush colors of mountain greens and fuchsia tree tops were eye candy from our bed. The morning music was church bells often accompanied by singing birds that were enjoying the morning breeze and moist air. We enjoyed coffee in bed or on our private balcony that gave views of the pool and more lush colors of the roses and tree tops. To go with our coffee we had a surprise basket of fruits and breakfast bake goods. This basket of goodies arrived magically each morning at our private entrance to our very private room and surrounding balcony. Rain by night and breezes by morning. Our search for our visit started a while back. after we researched best climates and retirement places in the world and since that time of life is approaching, the Lake Chapala area checks these boxes and many more for us. I went a week earlier and my husband joined me for the following week. I know I'm spoiled plus I retired this year. Our trip cuminlinated in my husband deciding he wanted to visit Ajijic, Mexico for his 60th birthday. The mornings, afternoons and evenings were filled with long walks along the Ajijic malecon enjoying the people and weather or we would sit at an outdoor restaurant/cafe and enjoy the wonderful food. Other times we would relax at the home of Roseann and Tony, our host and enjoy a glass of wine and warm conversation. I have saved the best for last and that really is Roseann, Tony and family. They go above and beyond in caring for their guest. We shared conversation, food, wine. They shared their son and his lovely girlfriend with us over dinner and drinks, Tony took us to get a rental car the next day because my husband's flight ended with his arrival at their home at 2 am. The list goes on and on. Their warmth and friendliness made our trip. Our Happy List: Relaxing at Roseann's and Tony's Home Walking the Malecon in Ajijic and Chapala Visiting local shops Eating at Peacock Restaurant Ajijic Speaking with the expats who moved to Ajijic and other areas Eating at Gossip's Kitchen Ajijic Drinks, Food and Meeting locals. Jardin Plaza Restaurant Best Food and Service of our trip. Monte Coxala Restaurant and Spa Driving the lake shore and checking out the small Mexican towns. Shopping Super Lake Grocery Store and Walmart Our Sad List. We had to leave.

    Ann2017-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Palatial is our first, and lasting impression, of Roseann's place. It is simply gorgegeous: every morning seeing mists rising near the green mountains on one side and the lake the other, and humming birds hovering from our windows, stepping out the front door we are at the beachfront and malecon right there and then, every afternoon swimming in the lap length pool with beautiful birds dashing back and fro among the magestic flowering trees... Budda and Mocha are the friendly resident canines, Roseann and Tony are warm, thoughtful and welcoming hosts. Thank you for a lovely Ajijic experience - our very first.

  • This is a fascinating place from the host Anna Bertha to the gate guard everyone was super friendly and helpful, the place was very clean and well kept, the acoustics in the living room and main bedroom room are fantastic because of the vaulted ceilings. The neighbors are very nice and respectful the swimming pool was very clean and well maintained. The place feels very secure and safe. My family and myself would recommend it to anyone visiting the area there are plenty of local markets with natives selling their artesanal artifacts and delicious food. We visited “La Palapa del Guayabo” a mere 10 minutes away in Chapala and the food and ambience were amazing. Perfect place to get away from the City.
