Enjoy a relaxing and comfortable country feel while enjoying the convenience of the nearby downtown in this spacious and comfortable nineteenth century farmhouse. Located at the end of a quiet road, the only sounds you'll hear at the end of the night will be the crackling of the wood stove. Enjoy being conveniently located within an hour's drive of Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, Bolton Valley Resort, and other Central Vermont winter sports destinations!
This house is near the amentities of downtown yet offers privacy thanks to the surrounding tree line and location at the end of a dead end. This is a simple upstairs room with a window AC unit and a view of the backyard and trees.
My neighbors are nice. The neighborhood is quiet.
  • Barre is a cute town and Josh's place is very near the downtown. It's also an easy drive to Montpelier making his home a great place to economically access central Vermont.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Josh's home. He was very accommodating with our two golden retrievers. We appreciate him opening his home to us and we would definitely stay with Josh again.

  • I plan to stay at Joshua's again.

    Robert2018-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Joshua's place was gorgeous and check in was very easy!

    Emily2018-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Joshua's place is in a super neat location in Barre. It is a very cool town and there are a lot of trails in the area if you enjoy hiking/outdoors. There is also amazing quarries you can drive only about ten- fifteen minutes to and you can take a relaxing walk around. It was quite, secluded, and spacious. Joshua was extremely helpful making sure that we had everything we needed and letting us barrow his supplies. The only thing I would say is that the house is very cold, so I would recommend bringing warm clothes, but I think Vermont as a whole is cold so it makes sense. Overall great stay!

    Rose2018-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Overall, this was an adequate experience. I'm hopeful my experience was a bit of an anomaly for Josh, but it deserves mentioning nonetheless. PROS: Josh was an extremely hospitable and engaging host. He communicated well before the trip and checked in occasionally during my stay. CONS: The check-in process left a lot to be desired. Despite the fact that I'd communicated the time of arrival, when I got there, Josh was not around and the provided instructions were not accurate. I called and he answered quickly, helping me find a way in, so the problem was resolved in short order. After getting in, I went to the room to discover it unprepared; there were no sheets on the bed and the blankets were strewn on the floor. He arrived several minutes later and provided the necessary items, but it was a hasty job at best. Overall, the house is an older house that could really stand a good cleaning. The room itself was fine, despite the slightly odd odor, but the common areas were dusty and there were any number of small pests (ants, mostly). I give the place 3 stars on the strength of my interaction with Josh, who really seemed like a genuine person, but I've had many stays on AirBnB and was a bit disappointed this didn't match the general high quality I've come to expect.

    LaDonna2018-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really good time at Joshua's place. He has a place in very quiet area that is very close to supermarket, restaurants and town centre. He also gave as some useful tips that we appreciate a lot! Thank you!

  • Joshua's place was right out of a better homes and gardens magazine! It was calmly beautiful. I an a big fan of wood everything so this place was right up my alley! He plays a gorgeous guitar pretty well, it was nice to listen to. Son was dancing to it. It's spacious and the bed is perfect, not too hard or soft. The blanket's were amazingly soft as well. I had a history lesson while in the shower. He has a map for a shower curtain so I was learning every morning lol Joshua was very nice, down to earth and had a positive vibe. Kept the house warm and cozy. Very inviting. Super quiet you don't even know he's there! The house is set back off the main road. On a quiet but friendly dead end street. So you don't have to worry about noise. The view out the window was nice and refreshing when waking up. There's also some pretty plump squirrels around there! Fun to watch when getting ready for the day. All in all definitely 5 star from me. We needed the basic for our trip. And our basic necessities were met, we're pretty easy to please so that helps. A comfortable bed, warm shower and a wonderful-spacious kitchen to utilize. All for a great l price. We were in town for the comicon via Moulton Conventions, it was literally just 5 minutes away fro where we needed to be! With cute little shops around Barre located just down the road. Thanks for lending us your home. We truly appreciated the stay and hospitality!

Welcome to the 60s oh oh oh oh. A Cape built in the 60s with big windows that looks down at the city. Open field in the back for privacy. Deer and turkey are frequent guests. All new heating system and electrical. It's a 4 BR, 2 bath house- however, offering 2 bedrooms now with full access to the house but upstairs and basement are empty (renovating and updating as money allows) and will include the 2 upstairs later. Close to I-89 and downtown Montpelier
Has nice big windows with views of the city. Private deck. 2 ground floor bedrooms. There is a second bathroom on the second floor. The 2 upstairs bedrooms and walk out basement will be for future use once renovated.
Quiet dead end street close to downtown Montpelier and Barre. Easy access to I- 89
  • Great value, and James was really kind. We ended up there during a snowstorm and he was so accommodating. He had the driveway plowed and even offered to call the city when the street wasn’t plowed immediately. Would definitely recommend for your stay in Vermont!

  • Very nice location. Clean, nice view. Nice space to enjoy your time. Close to town. Worth the booking if in central Vermont.

  • Nice place! The view from the living room is beautiful and you will not forget it. James thoughtfully provided local eggs and other breakfast treats in the refrigerator. Beds were very comfortable.

  • This house was so inviting and welcoming. From the huge windows taking up the whole wall and revealing a panoramic view of Barre and Montpelier and the mountains on the horizon, to the delicious, fresh eggs for breakfast, I would definitely suggest this space for a quiet retreat in the city. The bed was very comfortable. James was extremely welcoming and warm. He also gave me space, which I was looking for and appreciated. I would highly suggest staying here if you're visiting Central Vermont.

    Kestrel2018-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at James’ house. The description was very accurate and it was so great to be able to take our dogs. The house was clean and equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay (James even left some things for breakfast and bottled water), the yard was great for the dogs, and the neighborhood was quiet and felt safe. We would definitely recommend this listing to anyone and it’s only going to get better as James is putting in a lot of hard work to continually update it.

    Chloe2018-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • James's home was great for our stay in Barre. Great location and easy to navigate from. Beautiful views, quiet location. Home is undergoing rehab work, but was not a problem for staying in it. James also met us and gave us such a treat with breakfast foods and tips on places for dinner. Very sweet! Recommend this place.

  • Place was exactly as advertised. Beautiful view of the city at night and the herds of deer were nice to watch. Clean space, wonderful beds, gracious host

Finding, and getting into, this AirBNB room is EASY, QUICK AND SEAMLESS! (I promise! :-)
My home is on a very quiet road and your bedroom has a nice view of the river and quaint Montpelier. Please note, however, that the view includes an overlook of a busier route. Neither I, nor the overwhelming majority of my guests, are bothered by the white noise of Berlin street, however about 2% of them have commented on it. As such, I want to share it with you in advance. :-)

We were totally satisfied. The apartment, commonly used with the host, and the bedroom were also really cozy. Rod is communicative and friendly. Parking slots are available and you have a good view on the Winooski River from the bedroom window. We definitely recommend this accommodation!

  • Interesting host and place

    Michael2017-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is one of my best Airbnb experience since I started using it 3yrs ago. Rod is super organized and thoughtful host, he has covered almost all the essential needs that a human being can have. We have had a nice and restful sleep time in his quiet and clean apartment. The morning after we were heading out the door to grab some breakfast and see some sites and were pleasantly surprised by a generous breakfast offer from Rod. He set up a table and served some nice hot oatmeal and we had a great time in conversation. This Air BNB stay was comfortable, convenient, and fun thanks to the due diligence and friendly nature of Rod!

    Coco2016-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Rod's place was great. He had it set up so that we could get in whenever we arrived, and we were very happy to see towels, cooking equipment, things available for guests to take/use if they needed (e.g. toothbrushes, shampoo, razors). We actually had a nice night in and were able to cook, which was a blessing after several weeks travelling on the road! Rod himself was awesome; we ended up having some really fascinating conversations. He is really interesting and funny, and I would have loved to stick around and talk for ages but sadly we had to be on our way! :)

Our house in rural Plainfield is a quiet place to enjoy Vermont's country roads, fields, mountains and night skies. Spring will bring blooming lilacs and fresh garden lettuce. Summer in Vermont is glorious, with blue skies, verdant fields, and full gardens. In fall, the maples turn red, orange, and gold. We serve guests a hearty breakfast. We welcome people of all races/nationalities. We strive to accommodate people with disabilities. We love to host families with babies and young children.
We have a light airy house in postcard-beautiful Plainfield, VT. Plainfield is a rural town in central Vermont within easy driving distance of skiing, hiking, swimming. A great location for seeing fall color on Vermont's back roads. Close to Montpelier, the state capital. Equidistant between Boston and Montreal (3 hours each). You can walk (or run) for hours on the quiet dirt roads in the vicinity. Room has a double bed with a new mattress, and is in a separate section of the house, that includes a roomy living room and a futon that folds out into a second double bed. Space has a separate thermostat you can adjust. Private bathroom includes a new tiled shower. At present we have a crib in the room, and the space is baby-friendly. We enjoy children and well-behaved pets. We do not permit pets to be left here alone. You may use our refrigerator. We enjoy serving you breakfast adapted to your tastes.
We spent two nights (with our 2-year old daughter) with Gail and her husband Strat. The accommodation was very beautiful, clean and lovely decorated (actually, the pictures don´t do justice, it was more beautiful than we expected!). Gail and Strat are wonderful - cordial, open-hearted, friendly, caring, and humorous. Gail even provided some books and toys for our child and she could use a crib and a high-chair. We can only highly recommend staying with Gail. We had a wonderful time and were a little sad to have to leave already so early. If we come back to Vermont and Montpelier, we will definitely return to them. Dear Gail, dear Strat, we wish you all the best and thanks for everything!

  • Bereits mein 2. PS: Bei den beiden gibt es immer Frühstück (Keine Selbstverständlichkeit) Already my 2nd stay with the both. It is rather than if you visit the family. The situation is dreamlike. No noise only nature. Nevertheless, a comfort like a 4 star Hotel HP: With the both there is always breakfast (No self-evident fact)

    Jens2017-06-06T00:00:00Z

Guest quarters are large, spotless, and very comfortable. The views are spectacular, especially for our autumn visit. Wonderful stay; highly recommended.

  • Gail's quarters are very roomy and comfortable, with fantastic views surrounding the house. Gail is an amiable and attentive host, and we enjoyed conversation and the breakfast she so thoughtfully prepared.

  • When we arrived at Gail's we couldn't help but feel lucky as their home is in the most wonderful setting in the country. We loved this spacious, spotless accommodation and were fortunate to wake up to a most glorious sunrise with a gorgeous view. The bed was comfortable and bathroom had a great shower and a towel warmer. Gail made us delicious coffee and breakfasts, one with some great Vermont maple syrup! It was especially fun to visit with such interesting and friendly folks. They answered questions about Vermont and also gave us great information of places explore. Mike and I really enjoyed the beautiful countryside of mountains and streams. The views are outstanding with no billboards or cell towers. We loved the beautiful old homes with barns attached and church steeples. In the end it was hard to leave these gracious people and would recommend their place completely. We hope to return someday. Thank-you Gail and Strat!!!! Jan and Mike

  • A great place to stay. Our family of three fit perfectly and Bonne was very hospitable. Great location to see Montpellier and the surrounding area.

    Peter2018-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • My second stay at Bonne's place was as wonderful as my first. The apartment is very light and airy, and incredibly comfortable. The kitchen is very nice and includes a coffee maker, espresso machine, and utensils for light meals. The bed is very comfortable, and everything is clean. If my travels take me to Montpelier again, I will try to stay here again.

  • Bonne's home was perfect for my time in Montpelier! I needed an efficient, pleasant and comfortable place to stay amidst sitting for my Bar exam- Bonne's place was just that! The sunlight greeted me each morning in the kitchen as I enjoyed my cup of coffee. The comfortable bed provided a great night's rest before each day of testing. The home's location is perfect for spending time in town without the hustle and bustle of Montpelier traffic. Definitely recommend this home for travelers of all kinds!

  • We had a really lovely stay in Bonnes apartment. Her and her family were very friendly, relaxed and approachable hosts and encouraged us to hang out in their garden and bounce on the trampoline! The apartment is great - we particularly enjoyed the tempur mattress bed which was a dream- and the location is on a lovely leafy residential street. We enjoyed sitting out on the porch in the evenings and were really grateful to Bonne for sourcing us a fan in the heat wave. We thoroughly enjoyed Montpelier with its inclusive, liberal outlook. Highlights included the Saturday farmers market and LGBTQ event going on at the State House. The Coop is a must-visit! Thank you for having us to stay in your beautiful home!

He thoughtfully made us a Bon fire and him and Fred shared some laughs and stories with us around it. They also had food, coffee and tea ready for us to enjoy for breakfast. • James' house is just on the top of a hill facing the colorful mountains, the view is terrific. The decoration and furnishings show the finest taste of James about life, more than a lodge for holidays, and tell the great efforts James must have made to turn a house into this paradise. I will definitely come back, sooner or later.

Located on a quiet street running parallel to Winooski River just a 2 minute walk from the Main Street shopping area with lots of independent shops, bars and restaurants. Great X-Country ski area + short drive to downhill slopes - Stowe Ski Resort
Vermont offers 4 Season activity for the active traveller who wants to get away from the hustle of City life. Plenty of protected parkland for beautiful walks and lots of opportunities to get out on lakes with a kayak. The Fall season is often spectacular and is a very popular time to visit the area. Vintage car & motorcycle enthusiasts can also enjoy a number of special events during the summer & early Fall with the annual 'British Invasion' antique car rally in nearby Stowe in September being one of the most popular events. There are also two major Hot Air Balloon Festivals in the summer months. All forms of winter snow activities are catered for from downhill to cross-country, snowmobiling and snow shoeing and even ice-sailing on Lake Champlain in nearby Burlington.
Montpelier is the State Capital. By population, it is the smallest state capital in the USA. The state house, with it's beautiful gold dome is home to the Vermont legislature and there is a wealth of local history to discover. I've found Vermont to be both beautiful in terms of its countryside and have been enchanted by the friendliness of its people. It's a fabulous destination to experience some 'down-time' and yet allows you to be super-active if you wish to be.
  • Steve is a discrete host and perfect gentleman. His place is clean, tasteful and cozy. Good central location for visiting Montpelier on foot. Breakfast included Graham's crackers and Twining teas. He also provided me with filtered water.

Our clean, spacious yurt is the perfect country retreat. We're in a secluded country setting, yet just a 10 minute drive to downtown Montpelier. We invite the single traveler, couple or family in any season. Enjoy adventures during the day, and come home to a comfortable bed, warm fire and the sounds of nature lulling you to sleep.
Our light-filled yurt offers an exceptional way to take a step back from a busy life. We love how close to nature we feel, and yet how easy it is to get out and enjoy all that Vermont offers. The yurt includes a queen bed, fold-out double futon, comfortable loveseat, full dining table, and dresser. A microwave, kettle, coffeemaker, and small fridge/freezer make it easy to prep a meal, keep a cold beverage and ice cream on hand, and heat up leftovers. Coffee and tea are provided. Inside the yurt there is a handwash station, and outside the yurt there is a sink with running cold potable water. A lovely stroll brings you to a shared full-bath with a large, tiled shower in the walk-out basement. The yurt is the perfect way to have a simple weekend adventure or longer vacation. We are more private and far more comfortable than a campground, and more interesting and fun than a typical hotel room or apartment. Children love the magical open and airy yurt, time in the hammock, and evenings by the campfire. You are also welcome to set up a tent.
East Montpelier is a beautiful, rural area. We are at the end of a private road, near conserved forest and farmland. Picturesque Adamant village is just a few miles away and is a fantastic place to enjoy a picnic by the waterfall. East Montpelier Trails maintains nearly a dozen miles of walking paths in our neighborhood. http://emtrails.org/ In Calais, visit a historic water-powered sawmill. Morse Farm is just a few miles away and is a wonderful place to cross-country ski in winter or check out their sugaring operation in February and March. For a fix of boutiques and restaurants, head into town and explore Montpelier or Barre, both just minutes away.
  • The yurt was such a peaceful retreat. Close to town and on a beautiful property. We would totally go back!

    Raquel2018-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon's place was amazing! Despite the fact that we same-day booked (while desperately trying to find indoor accommodations due to the weather), Sharon was flexible and responsive, letting us know that she was (so kindly!) able to host us, and provided a timeline for readiness. The yurt was fantastic and we couldn't be more grateful things worked out!

    Jess2018-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • Very quiet and scenic, would definitely recommend to others.

    Joe2018-06-20T00:00:00Z

  • An incredible magical stay. We loved it SO much! Not a single complaint. ❤️ Just bring big spray and a good flashlight!

  • Sharon, Mark and Sienna were incredible hosts. Miles and I had an amazing time and the yurt was the perfect place for our trip. The stars and fireflies at night definitely aided in the experience. Sharon and mark were always there for helpful tips and recommendations. We’d love to come back!

    Sabrina2018-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon, Mark and Siena have created a space that is comfortable, cozy and quiet. The yurt is the perfect distance from Montpelier for beautiful countryside without being too far away to enjoy the area attractions.

    Rebecca2018-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • The YURT was amazing. Clean, Cozy, it had everything we needed such as a microwave, coffee, different types of tea, and a fridge. The bed was really really comfy and I didn't feel cold at night because of the heater and the extra blanket that Sharon offered (It rained the day I arrived in Montpelier, it was pretty chilly). Mark and Sharon are very nice and welcoming -- I always use Airbnb when I travel and they are the best hosts I've met through Airbnb!

Paradise on the Hill. Sits on a hill with beautiful views. Nice country setting while being a few miles from downtown Barre and Montpelier. We are close to the Millstone Trails and granite quarries. We love sharing this beautiful place. We have 4 guest rooms.
Full size bed in a private room. Shared bathroom, kitchen, and living room. No TV in the room but access to one in the living room. For one guest only.
Quiet country life while only 3 miles to downtown
  • We had a great time at the Airbnb. It was perfect and James was an awesome host! Even with the rain, it was still a beautiful view! I would highly recommend!

Great breakfast foods, coffee, fresh eggs, etc. wonderful hosts that will do everything to make your stay top notch. The photos don't even begin to do justice to how beautiful it is.

The perfect Vermont retreat, close to all points for leaf peeping, skiing and hiking. Only an eight-minute drive to downtown Montpelier for restaurants, shopping and sight-seeing. Sleep well on a brand-new queen-size mattress. Furnishings include a roomy chest of drawers, breakfast bar, and bistro table. Private bathroom with stand-up shower. Adjacent room is a shared dance studio for yoga, stretching and playing.
Guest room is on the lower level of a two-floor home. Our three-person family lives upstairs and uses the shared door and mudroom on the lower level. The dance studio is a shared space. Driveway is also shared. Newly installed radiator provides heat for guest room with thermostat control. The wood-burning stove is not connected. As charming as it looks, the iron has oxidized a bit so we ask guests not to touch stove or place items upon it. We have a non-shedding, quiet shih-tzu who isn’t physically able to use stairs, so no worries about unannounced visits from him!
We're on a quiet, dead-end street with little traffic. Our street turns onto a main route with many restaurants and amenities nearby, and several charming towns a short drive away. Also very close to I-89.
  • Alan and her husband Jim were extremely friendly and helpful. This was my first air bnb experience. They made me feel so welcomed. They gave me recommendations for places to eat. She even gave me a little tour of the national park and downtown. I recommend for everyone to eat at skinny pancakes and wayside diner. I will definitely be back in the fall with my fiancé.

    Emily2018-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • The room is spacious and appointed with coffee, teas, and cereal for the morning. There is absolute privacy if you want that but Alana and her family are also consummate hosts if you want to visit. They embody the spirit of Airbnb: interesting, curious, generous, and welcoming!

    Brian & Nanci2018-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was wonderful! It was really easy to get in touch with Alana and the room was exactly what we hoped for. We highly recommend this rental!

    Karissa2018-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Wow. Where to begin? First, Alana and her entire family are lovely. They are excellent hosts. The space is new, immaculate, homey, light in the am, quiet, soothing, spacious. There are special touches everywhere including local and natural products in the bathroom. And plenty of space for stretching! The bed is new, the sheets are beyond soft. Little treats every day including fresh fruit and chocolate, coffee, all teas, and seltzer in the fridge. Alana even left a note one morning with an art exhibit she knew I'd be interested in given what I'd told her about myself. Lots of help with good places to eat. I'm already planning to be back. This is definitely a place you will be glad you booked.

    Cat2018-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful hospitality! Beautiful space!

    Rachel2017-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • If you will choose to stay in Alana and Jim’s place, you will not regret, they are such a nice people, whatever happens, they’ll always be there for you! I’m so glad that I picked this place to stay, it’s so big and light, I just love it. Thank you!!

    Jane2017-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Alana was very responsive to our messages and accommodating regarding our check in. The area is very clean, organized and cozy - the amenities are above and beyond. We were delighted with hot teas, coffee, oatmeal and noodles which is a treat for busy travelers and vacationers with erratic schedules. The thoughtful arrangement of all amenities puts one's mind at ease, allowing more time for planning fun activities, supplemented by Alana and Jim's suggestions of things to do and see in the area. We were pointed toward a family friendly ski resort in the area which provided a full day of fun. The mini-fridge offered cream for coffees, and allowed us to keep cool some local craft brew. A clean, warm shower greeted us after a long day of skiing. The new, queen sized bed is very refreshing! The location, close to freeways, allowed us to travel to Stowe for dinner one evening as well as two local ski resorts. The surrounding Montpelier area is a beautiful place to stay. Ease-of-access, cleanliness and amenities are top-notch. We highly recommend it!

Have you been dreaming about hitting the road in an RV? Here's your chance to try out compact living in style. Are you a sailor stuck on shore? Its just like being at sea!
The camper in a residential neighborhood close to a main road. Because it is situated in the backyard of a house there is less noise from the road.
  • As expected the camper was fabulous! Clean and comfortable. Lori and Oliver are so accommodating.

    Brandie2016-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • I rented this wonderful little camper for myself and three small daughters while we visited family in Montpelier. Everything about the whole experience was awesome!! I couldn't be happier. The neighborhood was quiet, downtown super close by, the camper was immaculate, and well stocked with lots of essentials. A lovely surprise, as most hotels would not stock you with anything. The water was always hot, the stove worked wonderfully, and the AC was perfect for the Vermont heatwave. I have told all my family and friends how my h we loved the place, and I would book again in a heartbeat. Many thank you's for a great home away from home!

    Meaghan2016-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second time staying with my three young daughters at the Camper. It was a great experience! Downtown Montpelier is barely a 5 minute drive, the camper is clean and efficient, with all facilities working. The hot shower was very welcome after hiking, and it was great to be able to put my kids in a tub for a quick bath. And having a mini-kitchen is great so you don't have to eat out all the time while traveling. Plenty comfortable! Hope to visit again!

    Meaghan2017-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Oliver was great in answering my multitude of questions and he was very attentive to our needs too. We ended up staying in their Waterbury Center, VT location instead of the camper due to a last-minute plumbing issue so this review is of the hosts, and not for the camper. If you can swing the difference in the price, I would HIGHLY recommend their apartment in Waterbury Center, VT. It's about 5 miles off Highway 89 and it's about halfway between Montpelier and Burlington. The apt also has more space than the camper and it's got a full size refrigerator & full size stove which we found very handy for cooking most of our meals. Overall, we are very happy to have booked with Oliver and Lori. Thanks so much for the wonderful stay!!

    Dawne2017-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • My stay in Montpelier was great. The camper was cozy and perfect for my needs. I would recommend this for anyone that doesn't want to be in a hotel. The bed was comfortable as well. Only thing was that the camper is located on a corner next to a fairly busy road. But it was also convenient to be close to town. Just a little heads up for someone that was looking to be in a remote location in the back country. Thanks again!

  • Just paradise! Robert set up something really special here. The house is very modern, even minimalist and it was clean when we got there. Basically the most functional little country home I've ever visited, complete with reliable internet and new appliances on a very secluded property right in the middle of my favorite part of Vermont. I saw over 12 species of birds I had never seen before, just while taking my first breakfast. One time, there were 12 blue jays on one tree. Twice I startled a beautiful deer during my morning run. I'm not sure I was allowed, but my kids picked so many raspberries, blueberries, thimble berries, blackberries and blackcurrant that we had enough jam for the whole stay and berries for dessert... After driving 5 minutes and hiking about 45 minutes up Spruce mountain, I had a vantage point more spectacular than Mount Washington or anything I've seen on the East Coast. I'm not usually a big fan of farmer's markets (places like Stowe or Burlington have really commercial ones), but the big one in Montpelier and the awesome little one in Plainfield totally changed my mind - you have to try the Willow Moon goat cheese and all the low-priced fresh produce. My family got to have a week completely free of stress or human disturbance of any kind, that's what we came for. I just didn't think it would be so spectacular!

    guillaume2015-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • I felt very welcome, with cabin being open, not locked upon arrival. I have recommended it to many other riders who come to East Hill Farm for dressage clinics.

    Kathleen2015-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • The house is very nice and is in a great loocation. Check in was easy. Robert was accessible and helpful.

    Bruce2016-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • House was left open for me, small touches like nice tea, coffee machine (I brought my French press not knowing), good books to browse, rapid response to my few inquiries. The location is very very private and peaceful, perfect for me.

    Candace2015-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great place to spend a week over the winter holidays. All of the windows and sliding glass doors make the space bright, even on gray/cloudy days. The location was perfect for us, only 7 miles from family...that's quite close when you're talking rural Vermont! We found the cottage to be clean and lovely. Although we did wish for a sink in the bathroom, we made do with the one in the kitchen and we appreciated the ability to do laundry onsite. We also appreciated having wifi and that we could bring our dog with us. No complaints from us and we look forward to staying at Forest of Eden again; we'd love to see it in summer. Thanks for sharing your beautiful cottage, Robert!

    Michelle2015-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is a unique and beautiful house. Our kids loved the lofts, and the nooks and crannies. Great location with close access to Plainfield and Montpelier. Clean, comfortable, and very "real" Vermont!

    Elizabeth2017-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous place! The Windows make you feel like you're out in nature. We received the house in perfect clean shape with everything we could need. There's even a hook in aux cord for surround sound music! The town of Plainfield is charming as well. You have to try positive pie, great food and staff! Thanks for the awesome experience Robert. We will certainly be back!

    Sherry2015-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time! It was so quiet and peaceful. I would bring a fan with you to help with airflow in the summer and definitely bug spray and citronella candles! The deck was perfect for breakfast and hanging out on. We loved having a grill and a firepit right there and sat outside as much as we could.

Welcome to our home in laid back Montpelier, VT. This room has a queen sized bed just down the hall from a full shared bathroom. You have your own private views of the Capitol, depending on the foliage. The house is a good sized Victorian for plenty of space for you to relax in the common areas. Just blocks from the downtown shopping, restaurants, supermarkets, theaters, farmer's markets, and the capitol! We look forward to meeting you!
Guests have access to all common spaces including bathrooms, kitchen, dining, living and porch. We’ve recently updated the space to include a shared mini fridge, microwave, coffee area, and all the basics you’d need to share a glass of wine or a bite to eat. There’s a small common seating area in the hall with views of the town.
We're close to downtown--restaurants, grocery stores, & shopping are all within a few blocks.

  • The house was perfect. Clean And had a cabin type feel. It was comfy and spacious. I enjoyed my stay there!

    Brandon2015-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the location. Very convenient. While we never met Lori or Oliver, they were very quick to reply to our inquiries. It snowed a lot during our December visit and the driveway was cleared of snow quickly! Great job, Oliver, especially since this was our first experience with Vermont winter weather. The house was very neat and clean upon our arrival. Even though the house faces a main street, you are not bothered with street traffic. Also the house is very warm and cozy. More of a seating option would be nice in the living room space. A king size bed would be nice as well. However, the queen bed was very comfortable. The 2nd bed (full size) was just as comfortable. Our grandkids loved spending the night!

FRI-SAT-SUN NIGHTS ONLY. Upstairs room on quiet side street, 10-15 minutes walk from downtown. Casual, homey, clean, comfortable and inviting. Shared bathroom. Radiator in the hall outside the room provides the heat. A female cat named Oskar welcomes guests. Child welcome. Low scent please. I use line dried 100% cotton sheets and towels only. One guest mentioned that I should add this to the listing description, as this may be of particular interest to some guests.
The room is upstairs, the bathroom is on the main floor. This might be important if you need the bathroom during the night.
The neighborhood is made up mostly of one-family homes, with a blend of young families, middle aged couples and older folks. Being a quiet side street it is a favorite for walkers, often with children or dogs.

  • Karin was so welcoming! She made Taylor and I feel right at home. Her house is warm, and smelled so good all the time from all of the delicious bread she made! If/when we return to Montpelier, she will be the person we put a requesr in for. :)

  • Karin was very accommodating throughout our stay, especially when our arrival was delayed a few hours. She stayed up to make sure we were able to get settled in.

Modern house on 35 acres in a private setting. 3 miles from downtown. Close to skiing, Ben & Jerry's, and the Millstone trails for biking and hiking. 5 miles to Montpelier- Capital of Vermont. Seasonal pool, hot tub, and fire pit. Amazing views! Prohibition Pig Brewery and The Alchemist are close.
35 acres on top of a mountain in Central Vermont. Amazing views in this peaceful property. 3 miles from downtown- close to downtown life but far enough for a quiet retreat. Seasonal pool and hot tub. The summer is beautiful. The fall colors are amazing.
  • An amazing find! Meticulous and perfect in every way. 270 degree view from our bedroom to the mountains. Beautifully decorated bedroom and house. And oh so clean. James is very friendly and accommodating. We'll be back!

    Debra2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • James did everything to make our stay absolutely perfect and he did not fail! We had the chance to meet Fred which was amazing as well (thanks for the fresh eggs). If you're going in that area and you need a place to stay, stop looking you just found the best option. We hope to be back someday. Stunning view, nice rooms, pool, bbq, jacuzzi and warm welcome is what you will get there!

  • Fabulous views, glorious countryside. Pretty room, relaxed and friendly host.

    Patricia2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • The view from this location cannot be beat. The location feels secluded, while being only a 7-minute drive from downtown. The house was spacious and clean, with plenty of room to hang out when I was at the house. It was the perfect place to be to get a peaceful moment and a breath of fresh air during a busy local wedding weekend with lots of people in town. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. I will definitely recommend this location to friends in the future!

    Heather2017-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • The place is fantastic, and James is quite the host! Very nice, very funny, and made my stay extremely comfortable! Would highly recommend!

    Mikhail2017-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • What a place! We loved everything about it- James is a wonderful host, the room was cozy, the views are just amazing, even the other guests happened to be wonderful as well. James had breakfast items for us - which was unexpected but very pleasant extra touch. One of my favorite airbnb experiences and definitely the best experience when not renting the whole place. Will try to come back at some point and take advantage of the hot tub!

    Vita2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Wait 'til you see this view! Quintessential Vermont. Beautifully kept grounds and home. Both the single and master guest bedrooms were picture-perfect, full of charm and comfort. James went out of his way to graciously extend his hospitality. Wish I could've stayed the entire weekend there. You won't be disappointed!

    Anthony2017-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • This house is right out of a movie with the view of the mountains and the lake. The pool and the jacuzzi are perfect. It is very quiet and the bed is amazing. It is well located, 10 minutes from everything you might need. James is a perfect host and we will go back for sure.

Enjoy a pleasant, private room/bath/entrance, in quiet neighborhood, less than a 5-10 minute stroll to downtown to nearby restaurants, bakeries, shopping, VT State House. The room offers a comfy pillow-top double bed, sleeps 1-2, and comes with wifi, microwave, and apartment sized refrigerator.. No pets please.
  • Clean, comfortable room, good shower pressure, fabulous location and excellent hosts. Jane and Hutch were friendly and kind. I loved the fresh flowers and chocolate in the room. It felt like staying at the home of good friends who were there when you needed them but gave you privacy and space.

    Gaynor2013-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Jane was waiting when I arrived and gave a warm welcome. The room and shower we're extremely nice. Beautiful old pine floors. There was a little microwave and refrigerator as well as coffee and tea making supplies including hot water kettle. The bed was very comfortable, and the furniture very tasteful.

    Scott2015-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodations are like the hosts: friendly, comfortable, authentic and never too much. Wood floors, plenty of windows, updated bathroom. Easy walking distance to both downtown Montpelier and Vermont College of Fine Arts, with quiet location (and separate entrance) at the back of sprawling historic home. Highly recommended.

    Dave2015-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Jane's house is a few blocks from the Main Street. It is a quick walk to all of the action in town. Jane was very responsive and accommodating when our plans put us in Montpelier later than expected. Hutch welcomed us and showed us everything. The room is as described. Bathroom is updated and the bedroom is spacious (with closet too!). We enjoyed our stay so much we didn't want to leave! Hitch even brought out one of his rocking horses for our son to play with. They were great hosts and we would definitely stay there again!

    Maxime2015-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding in all ways: quality of experience, location, care and service, cleanliness, aesthetics

    Stephen2014-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Love this space! It is small but very cozy. The neighborhood feels very safe and I am very comfortable walking back from downtown alone. The hosts are wonderful...welcoming and attentive. I will absolutely be staying here again! Thanks again Jane and Hutch!

    Drew2014-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place to stay in Montpelier! We had a wonderful time visiting Vermont's capital and one of the best things was Jane's accommodations. Everything was first rate, the bed, the cleanliness, the parking, etc. The bathroom was really nice...I had just installed the exact same toilet in my house and it was not a cheap one! Loved the quiet street the house was on and it was so easy to walk to the vibrant downtown or to Hubbard Park. We will definitely try to stay here the next time we're in the area!

  • Very cute house in a nice quiet setting - better than the pictures. Clean and cosy with lots of firewood provided for the wood burning stove as well as welcome treats in the form of wine and chocolate! While I didn't get a chance to meet Mary Beth in person, she thoughtfully checked in several times to make sure we were warm enough during the below zero spell.

  • Wonderful little cottage! Exactly as described. Cozy, convenient to downtown, lovely view over a snowy wooded landscape. Also, the beds were quite comfortable. The house was an ideal base for us to attend a local music festival. The hosts were gracious and even brushed the snow off our car in the morning.

  • Fantastic bungalow in walking distance of downtown Montpelier. The bungalow, which is more like a fully equipped small house, was a perfect base for our family visit to Montpelier. The hosts living in the adjacent house are available if needed but respect their guests their privacy. Wish I could have stayed longer!

  • We couldn't have been more thrilled with the experience of staying at Mary Beth's tiny house! The house itself is adorable, spotlessly clean, comfortable, and totally charming. We were greeted with a lovely welcome letter, fresh flowers on the table, and a stack of brochures and maps with places of interest highlighted. We also especially enjoyed the cute, cozy little wood stove! The house is in a lovely neighborhood extremely close to downtown Montpelier and the location is great for exploring the surrounding area. Mary Beth was very proactive with communication and was extremely friendly and helpful. Overall, it was just a wonderful experience. A huge thank you to Mary Beth and family! We hope to stay here again, and would definitely recommend it to friends, family, and anyone on AirBnB considering a stay in Montpelier!

Five minute walk to the prettiest and coolest state capital in the country. Entire second floor of duplex with separate entrance. Beautiful porch. Perfect base to explore Vermont; hiking, skiing, biking, eating. Hosts live downstairs. Dogs are welcome. If you are a skier, you are in luck! We are less than an 40 minutes to Sugarbush, Mad River, Bolton and Stowe Ski areas. While you'll have to drive, you won't have to pay resort prices for lodging, and you'll have a lot more room.
Montpelier is the quintessential Vermont town. We love it. Smack dab in the middle of the state, I have lived here over 30 years. My partner, Patti, was born and raised in Vermont. Our house is close to downtown and easy walking distance to everything. There are two bedrooms. One has a queen bed, the other two twin beds. If you need more sleeping space, there is a futon mattress available to roll out in the living room. Private, gorgeous with a sunny and spacious living area. Our capacity is 4 people. One more person is permitted with an extra charge. Full kitchen with microwave, refrigerator, toaster, and cooking utensils. (No dishwasher). There is coffee, sugar and filters provided. We are very close to a grocery store, so you can see what is in the refrigerator and then go get provisions.
Montpelier is a very safe town, easy to get around and there are outstanding restaurants and bars. A foodie and craft beer lovers delight!
  • Great location, great stay. Back deck was fabulous.

  • The apartment was nice and quiet. The rooms were nicely decorated and cozy. Some nice touches was the chess board my granddaughter liked and the extra soft mattresses. The location was spot on, within walking distance of downtown Montpelier. Will definitely return if heading up North again.

  • Will and Patti’s space is very comfortable and homey. The apartment was clean and included information about local restaurants and attractions. The location was great— a short walk from the downtown area which featured lovely shops and places to eat or grab a drink. It suited our needs perfectly, and it would be a great option for families.

    Dayna2018-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • Will's place was perfect for my needs. It was clean, cozy, and comfortable. The neighborhood is cute, and it was great to be able to park my car in the driveway and then walk to downtown Montpelier restaurants, shopping, etc. I was visiting to attend Norwich University's graduation ceremony so had considered staying around there, but this was clearly the better choice. Montpelier is fantastic and if get up there again, I'd definitely stay at Will's place.

  • We had such a great time at Lucy's place - It was so comfy, cozy, and clean! And, it was in such a great location! Just what we were looking for! Thank you Lucy for everything!!

    Alice2018-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was spacious and inviting. Lucy left us some extras in the house to make our stay even more comfortable. She was very responsive via email and gave a ton of recommendations for local attractions we had interest in. The house is a quick walk to down town. I would stay here again on my next visit to Montpelier Vt.

    Jon2018-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • A great little space. My favorite parts were: the quick walk to downtown, the toasty warm bedroom with comfy bed, the welcoming bottle of wine, the coffee to use in the morning, and nice hot showers. It was COLD COLD COLD when I stayed at Lucy's, so all these little cozy comforts made a huge difference. I would definitely stay here again. In fact, I plan to bring my husband for a visit with me next time. This would be a great space for two people.

    Anna2018-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean place with assorted and thoughtful details. WiFi, green mountain coffee, and even some juice to start off your first morning were all inclusive!

    Frank2018-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent and private apt. Lucy was an excellent host. Lots of nice touches about the apt. We felt very much at home.

    C Anthony2018-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a place to explore lots of different areas in Vermont, this is it! The apartment is a real apartment: it's entirely separate from any other living space, and has a full kitchen with 4-burner stove, oven, coffee maker, electric hot water kettle, full sink, dining table, and a full refrigerator with freezer. You won't have to rough it with microwaved oatmeal for breakfast! That's if you decide to cook while you're there at all. The entire town is very walkable, and Lucy's place is really close to the historic district where a lot of the great eating places are concentrated. Seven days a week, you can find something to take away or eat in, from authentic Asian places to really fab bakeries with affordable options. While you are staying at Lucy's, you can take day trips to many of the other places in the area. We went to a maple sugar place, Stow, Burlington, and more while staying in one home for nearly two weeks. The place has a parking spot, as well, so it's very easy to make this your base for a vacation. Every room in the home (except the bathroom, of course) has at least one window. No creepy basement rooms! Yay! And with the full-sized clothes washer and drier, you can carry along only what you really need. Lucy is a great host. She has a welcome book with local tips, and there is space to add your tips for the next guest. She has a unique flare for decorating, and the apartment is cozy and fun. A bottle of wine, some OJ, and creamer was all waiting for us when we arrived. I would definitely recommend this place for a vacation or a working stay. The wireless was fast enough to stream movies, and we both used it for work access while we were there.

A sweet, spacious, private second floor apartment in our renovated brick farmhouse - completely redecorated for guests with a brand new comfortable queen bed in the sleeping area (with black-out curtain), remodeled bathroom, vintage farmhouse kitchen and lovely living/dining room with a comfy double futon and dining table. Newly refinished maple floors and lovely travertine tiled bathroom with a rain shower. Long distance eastern views of the mountains with glorious morning sun. @greenacresVT
We are a short 6 miles from Montpelier, Vermont's beautiful state capitol. Our home is located on a quiet country road, surrounded by farmland. We are only a mile off paved roads (nice to know when the roads get messy). The second floor apartment is reached by one set of stairs and has its own ample private entrance hall. The apartment gets great sun/light and has distant views to the east and west. We have a large parking area where you can park in all seasons. The apt. has a kitchen with fridge, cooktop, toaster oven for baking, microwave, coffee maker, tea kettle and everything you'll need for basic cooking. We have coffee and a nice tea selection (with honey) waiting for guests in the apt. Instant hot water heater provides ample water for a newly remodeled bathroom with rain shower head, and there is a Nest thermostat in your living space. We offer basic cable service at the house, but given our rural location we don't get everything. We have also installed appleTV which you can use to stream your own content through your smart device. We ask that you remove shoes in the entry hall to help us keep those apartment floors in great shape. Check in on (Hidden by Airbnb) @greenacresVT for current events, more info about our place and general Vermont fun stuff!
Our farmhouse, "Green Acres", is one of the originals in the area, originally built in the 1830's. It is brick and wood, and has an incredible front porch with open fields in all directions. The road is dirt, and is very quiet, except in active farming season when we have quite a few tractors rolling by. Our neighborhood is very friendly, and you can greet people walking their dogs every day along our road and beyond. It is wonderful to walk from the house, for a short or long walk along country dirt roads and wooded paths. The local farm, a short walk from the house, offers fresh raw milk, meat and eggs in their farm stand. We recommend a local pizza/Italian restaurant/bar in Plainfield Village 4 miles from the house, and of course, Montpelier has tons of dining and entertainment options. A Vermont general store is only a mile down the road, and a local breakfast/lunch place is 3 miles away. And did I mention that maple creemies (Vermont soft ice cream at Bragg Farm) are a short 2 miles away? VAST trails are accessible right out the back door in addition to abundant walking and biking trails. Or just hang out on a rocking chair on the front porch.
  • Irene and Soren are wonderful hosts; very generous and friendly, and the view from the front porch is just beautiful. The apartment is very cute and private, and the cats, chickens, and dog are a bonus. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

    Resa2018-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Not only is the apartment charming, but Irene and Sorin are fantastic hosts. They answered any questions we had within minutes, provided us fresh eggs, and made us feel welcome (including leaving us a note, chocolates, and drinks for when we arrived). In addition, their dog and cats were a bonus to our trip, as they were super friendly and great to see whenever we did spot them.

    Lorena2018-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • A nice place to stay, near Montpelier. Very cozy and clean. The bed and couch are comfortable.

    Joanie2018-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • Light, airy, clean, and close to everything. I stayed here for a month while I was settling in to a new job. This apartment offers a wonderful escape from....well anything. The place get's beautiful morning and afternoon light--it's in the middle of a wide open farm field. There are several animals around and about--chickens, farm cats, and a dog. I loved coming home to a kitty to pet and the funny clucks of the chickens. The place is accessible by dirt roads, but they are well maintained and easy to drive on even in the middle of mud season (which is about when I arrived). The apartment itself is well appointed and clean with nice little touches like coffee and hot cocoa, basic cooking spices, and a range of small appliances. It was a peaceful oasis that feels like it's in the middle of nowhere, but is actually close to everything. Less than 15 minutes to downtown Montpelier, 20 minutes to Barre, or 10 minutes to Plainfield (if that). Irene always responded quickly to any of my messages, and let me know about her comings and goings in case I needed anything. I had hardly anything to message her about, but when I did, she was right there. Overall, I recommend this apartment highly. I'm pretty sure you won't find a better value for the price.

  • It was lovely staying at Paradise on the Hill. There were lots of outdoor spaces to have breakfast, wine, hang out etc. Fresh eggs (coop out back) for breakfast! The room was large and beds very comfortable. We stayed in the one with a nice and firm king size :) James was incredibly accommodating. The room is posted for only 4 people, but I had a couple friends who needed a home last minute for the wedding we were going to and James was able to host all of us! He even let us use an extra room that was not part of the package. It really made the trip. Thanks!!

    Kate2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • This was our 1st Airbnb experience and it was perfect. James communicated everything and it was super simple. The room he offered was great! Clean, big, private bath, and awesome views! We can't wait to return!

    Craig2018-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We staying in James's place for 3 nights and enjoyed it very much. The host was very nice. We got fresh eggs from their farm. The amenities were great and there is a Jacuzzi on site which is used quite a bit. We were able to use the kitchen and the host provides all of the essentials. The place was busy. There were other travelers staying in the house, which was not quite clear from the description; however, we enjoyed meeting other travelers. There was plenty of room in this large house. James was a gracious host and gave us a lot of tips about the area and what to see and visit. We enjoyed out stay.

    Inga2018-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • The view alone is worth the trip. Add in a pool, hot tub, and great hospitality, and you've got a formula for one hell of a trip. James was very hospitable and helped ensure we were comfortable throughout our stay.

    Dan2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed one night at James's master suite and it was really wonderful. We were passing through Barre and only had time for a very brief stay, but everything was perfect and as described by the posting and reviews. The house is super clean and inviting. The views are absolutely breathtaking. And the chickens are really cute! Truly a paradise. We're already making plans to return!

    Richard2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had wonderful time at James's house. The room is very big and very clean. It has many windows that have different views of mountains. James provided very fresh donuts, bagel, coffee and even eggs for our breakfast. He is also very friendly to talk to and he shared information with us. It was a perfect stay!

A beautiful sunny peaceful country home that provides a cozy, mellow, artsy, place for guests. A great place for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and outdoor adventurists! Near VAST Trails, ski resorts 35 mins, 10 mins to interstate, 7 miles from Montpelier, theaters, taprooms, restaurants, playhouse, craft galleries, museum, churches, dance halls, music, tea and coffee houses, bakeries, parks, bike paths, organic food, many boutiques, etc. 5 mins to Goddard College.
You have a private room on the second floor, the full bath is right next to the bedroom, which is private. You are welcome to use the kitchen, living room, back deck, laundry facility. I have a shelf in the refrigerator for my guests and a cupboard for you to store your items. The space is clean...kept organized...and quiet most of the time.
My home is located on 7 acres giving visitors an idyllic Vermont country experience. The neighbors are friendly, their homes pristine while I am surrounded by open lawns and woods, VAST trails, brooks, and fields. There are several horse farms about 1 mile away for scenic walks, and great ponds for swimming or kayaking.
  • I feel hesitant to say it because it’ll only make booking with Carleen more and more difficult, but it’s unfair to Carleen if I don’t. So, here it is: Everything is 5-star! Location: on a beautiful lawn surrounded by trees. Great place to see stars at night. Environment: very quiet. Carleen is so considerate that she wears her headphones when watching TV! The house: big and very clean. It is kept at a comfortable temperature. The bed is so comfortable that I was reluctant to get up! It's a joy to be in the shower! The host: very hospitable. She makes yummy bread for her guests. She is attentive to her guests’ needs and is always happy to answer your questions. Despite being a busy lady herself, she is happy to chat with you if you want to. Her two cats are so friendly and adorable!

    Pui Kei2016-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Carleen's place is as bright and artistic as the photos suggest. She is a very thoughtful host who took time to connect prior to the visit to make sure she had in breakfast beverages to suit our needs. This was very sweet. She made us feel very much at home. It was a great experience and much better than staying in a motel.

    Yvonne2017-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed with Carleen for 3 weeks while I was working in the area, and I couldn't have been happier with my choice. Her home is gorgeous, clean, and spacious and Carleen is extremely welcoming and made me feel right at home. I would absolutely recommend a stay here to anyone visiting the Barre/Montpelier area!

    Melanie2017-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Carleen was very accommodating during our stay and had lot's of valuable local knowledge on area restaurants, activities and cross country ski information. The VAST trail system is right across the street from her house and was a great place to go as long as you want to cross country skiing. Snowmobiles use the trail also (and is primarily there for the snowmobiles), but they were all very careful when passing us and we never felt scared when they passed. Carleen also provides a nice continental breakfast each morning and coffee and tea throughout the stay.

    David2018-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Carleen's is an amazing host and her house is gorgeous! I highly recommend a stay with her. My only regret is that I didn't have reason to stay longer. She attends to every detail imaginable including a much needed extension of checkout time! thank you Carleen!

    Deborah2017-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Carlene;s home is quite lovely and was a perfect spot for exploring the Montpelier/Barre/Plainfield area. The home is as beautiful and warm as the photo suggests. Carlene is a terrific host and spent much time sharing her suggestions and thoughts for the area. We made a friend.

    R. Kenley2016-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • I only stayed for a quick overnight, but it was a lovely space. The home and grounds are just as described and beautiful. The room was just what I was looking for. Carleen was a generous and friendly host.

    Chris2016-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful evening with Carleen and her daughter. Loved looking at all the wonderful art, and her home is so filled with light, artwork and plants. We felt very welcomed and comfortable. Thanks!

Your suite includes a large bedroom with a queen size bed, separate locked entrance, and a newly renovated full bath. Towels and sheets included.
Your suite is within walking distance to downtown Montpelier, the Capital District and Hubbard Park.
Montpelier, Vermont is a pleasure for residents and visitors alike. The downtown area is not only beautiful, but it also offers many craft-beer bars and excellent dining establishments. Longtime residents own many of the shops in the downtown area and the locals are proud of their small-town fellowship. Downtown Montpelier offers delightful boutiques and shops, adorable bookshops, antique stores, coffee shops and plenty of places to eat. The town is full of both small-town charm as well as big city amenities. Tucked away in a tangle of wilderness and clinging to the edges of the Winooski and North Branch Rivers, Montpelier, Vt., with a population of about 8,000, is one of the smallest state capitals in the country. The residents of this New England town in the foothills of the Green Mountains include students, movie buffs, foodies (the New England Culinary Institute is based here, after all), artists, and outdoors enthusiasts. Whether you’re in search of a meal at one of the many new farm-to-table restaurants, an art house movie or live music, you’ll find it all in this little capital city. It’s not difficult to orient yourself in a city where the downtown is roughly five blocks. Stop by the Capitol Region Visitors Center (134 State Street) for a map and directions to the 185-acre Hubbard Park (two blocks from Cloud 9 at 184) with its seven miles or so of hiking trails. The quad-burning walk necessitates a lovely pause on the Cliff Street overlook where you can see the town’s church spires pierce the sky, and Federalist and Colonial Revival buildings hover over the water, impervious to past floods, including the 10-foot rise from Hurricane Irene. Then climb the 54-foot observation tower where you can see Camel’s Hump, one of Vermont’s tallest mountains. On the free half-hour tours of the State House, a Greek and Renaissance Revival building completed in 1859, you will learn about the fireproof Lake Champlain black marble, study Civil War art, sit at the desks of legislators and admire the gaselier (electrified gaslight chandelier) that weighs “as much as a Volkswagen bus” (115 State Street). Afterward, head to the Vermont Historical Society Museum (109 State Street) where the permanent collection invites you to walk through an Abenaki wigwam. The State House lawn turns into a sprawling front porch just before the sun goes down. Promenade along the sidewalk or hang out on the steps to watch a competitive game of pickup Ultimate Frisbee. It won’t take long to wander through the cute stores on Montpelier’s shopping streets. •No. 9 Boutique carries clothing lines including Tribal, Nally and Millie, Desigual, Woolrich, Aventura, Nomadic Trader, Wind River, Global Village, Spanx, and more. •The Alley, shares space in No. 9 Boutique on Main St. and right next door to Bear Pond Books, offers lots of great stuff -- vintage, antique, retro, cottage, industrial, mid-century modern, Dressers, tables, cupboards, desks, bookshelves, housewares, and more! •GuitarSam has been locally owned and operated for over 35 years in downtown Montpelier VT, providing customers from near and far the best selection and values in fretted instruments, amplification, PA and recording gear, print music and accessories. •At NECI on Main, our classic and modern cuisine is the product of a beautiful collaboration between students and our award-winning chef-instructors. For over 30 years we have been teaching students to make connections with farmers, between the landscape and our food, and between seasons and culinary traditions. •Three Penny Taproom, 108 Main Street, with 24 tap lines primed with craft beer •Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks (1168 County Road) Not far out of town, eight generations of Morse men at the have specialized in bringing syrup to your pancakes. Walking paths take you past Otis, the performing goat and a scale replica of the State House. Don’t leave without trying a maple creemee, a cone heaped high with maple-infused ice cream and topped with maple crystals. • Aly was always quick to respond to us. Her space was quiet cozy and very sweet. Everything was so very clean and inviting. Highly recommended.

    Nancy2017-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Alyson's place was great. Easily accessible, and afforded a lot of privacy. With its own bathroom and entrance, it felt very secluded and pretty much like its own unit- though we did encounter the host plus guests as we were leaving, and would have certainly been happy to interact more with them had the opportunity arose.

    Daniel2017-02-19T00:00:00Z

  • The private suite was perfect and very clean. It was nice having our own separate entrance so I didn't feel like I was disturbing Alyson and her family. Great spot! The downtown is right down the road and Alyson provided several maps and brochures of local things to do/places to eat. We hope to be back!

    Margret2015-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • The place was very spacious, comfortable, and clean. We loved being within walking distance of all the downtown shops and restaurants. Britt and Dan had many great suggestions for places to go and things to do in the area. Thanks for helping make our trip a memorable experience!

    Scott2014-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Dan and Britt have a beautiful, historic home! It was the perfect spot for a cozy Valentine's weekend getaway. The location can't be beat as the home is literally steps away from downtown. The apartment was very comfortable and convenient - loved that it had a personal kitchen we could cook up a warm snack in after a long day on the ski slopes at a nearby mountain, Bolton Valley. I would definitely recommend staying here for a weekend getaway to experience authentic Vermont charm.

    Kristen2015-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Easy walk to downtown, quiet neighborhood, very comfy bed, simple apartment with the basics and conveniences for a short term stay.

    Annika2014-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Britt and Dan were stellar hosts, and the apartment was lovely. They gave me my space, but were kind enough to invite me to some fun activities like blueberry picking! The house is super close to everything in town, yet a great quiet retreat to come back to.

  • Britt and Dan were great hosts! They were communicative and checked in multiple times to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we need. Highly recommend! Dan

  • Britt was a great host! She responded to all of my emails in a timely manner, and upon arrival, greeted my wife and I, was very friendly, and walked us through the ins and outs of the apartment. The apartment itself was just what we needed: a simple, comfortable place in a great location from which we could venture out, either by foot into the downtown area of Montpelier, which is chock full of fantastic restaurants and pubs, as well as by car to the surrounding region. I'd highly recommend Britt's apartment to anyone visiting Vermont!

Walking distance to the Barre Opera House and less than an hour's drive to many popular winter sports destinations. The house has spacious living and dining areas. It is quietly located at the end of a dead end road.
Neighbors are friendly, some are even friends of mine.
  • We spent a comforting stay with Josh! The weather wasn't quite in our favor and 18in of snow caused some issues with our plans. Josh was very understanding and helpful with our snowy concerns. We ate at a great local spot the Ladder Grill and stopped at some stores on the walk back. Overall our stay was definitely worth while! I highly recommend staying at Josh's place!

  • Josh was wonderful and welcoming, very flexible. We decided at the last minute to stay in the area rather than driving home 2 hours on icy roads, and he was quick to respond and let us bring our dog. The house is a wonderful old house, lovely proportions, that Josh has apparently recently purchased and is still working on decorating. Nice and clean, but a little makeshift. Great location.

    Jasmin2017-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Karen is a kind and conscientious hostess. The space is very comfortable and larger than we expected. Everything was clean and orderly. She provided ample coffee and the kitchen was well stocked for our short story. Location is excellent to downtown Montpelier. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

  • A great option for lodging in Montpelier, this is nicely renovated and thoughtfully decorated basement apartment is ground level on one side. It is located in a quiet neighborhood of interesting well kept older homes. Hubbard Park with trails and a stone tower is a short walk away. Restaurants, interesting shops, a movie theater, the Vermont capitol and Vermont history museum are also within several blocks. The comfortable apt. has 3 good size rooms with a full size kitchen. Karen, the owner is very helpful in providing any information you may need. I rated it 4 stars only because the apt is connected to the house through a gated door way at the top of the stairs, While the residents of the house were extremely quiet during our stay, a couple times we heard their conversations and thus felt that they could hear ours. If a closed door was installed at the top of the stairs I would give this listing 5 stars.
