“Built in 1930 by the British as a fortress against Japanese attacks, it was overtaken by Jap forces during WWII when they surprised the Brits with inland invasion rather than the sea. While historical hand-me-down accounts vary, it is believed that the Japanese garrison is a butcher house for civilians & prisoners-of-war. The location of Penang War Museum is enough to set goose pimples running amok. It sits on Bukit Hantu, which means ‘Ghost Hill’ because local folklore is apparently rife with ghostly sightings & encounters in the vicinity. It could also be the result of active imagination due to the fort’s dark past as a purported Jap torture camp during WWII that the hill got its name!”

Airport
“As at 02May2018: The most cost effective way of travelling the 16 km / 9.9 miles from Penang International Airport (PIA) to George Town is to take one of the bus services that leave the airport every 30 minutes. Bus lines 102, 306 and 401E are Rapid Penang operated bus services, of which the 102 service goes to Teluk Bahang from PIA via Komtar Shopping Centre and the 306 service connects PIA with Penang General Hospital via Air Itam, while the Rapid Penang busses from PIA all go to George Town and Balik Pulau. The Rapid Penang busses have their own ticket counter on the ground floor level of the arrivals hall and a ticket for bus line U401 costs around RM2-3”

“Sam Poh Footprint Temple (三寶宮) or Tokong Jejak Kaki Sam Poh, is a small, recently-built temple close to the water's edge at the small fishing village of Batu Maung, on the southeast tip of Penang Island. The temple, which grew out of a shrine over the water's edge, was built to venerate a "footprint" in the rock.”
