  • Dave was kind, prompt and full of humor and information.

  • Dave and Susanne's (sorry if I spelt that wrong) place was the perfect remedy after 4 days in the city. They couldn't have been more warm and welcoming and the place more cosy and delightful. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, the furry friends, the comfy bed and the delicious breakfasts. Great recommendations too. Anyone visiting, go to Josephine's restaurant in Sunset, you won't regret it. You have something special here, we were truly sad to leave. Thank you.

  • What a beautiful place! I stopped here for the night passing through and wasn't up for exploring the area, but Dave gave me lots of suggestions for local food/events. The space was very homey and filled with cool art, plant life and an all around good feel. I really hope to come back again some day for a longer stay!

  • By far our best and most unique airbnb stay! The tree room was cosy, comfortable and so lovingly decorated. Dave made sure that we were well taken care of and had great recommendations on food and things to do. We had access to a wii player, good books, vinyl records and a TV. The location was great for exploring the area and we frequently drove to Lafayette for the amazing food. Dave's place is a gem in Louisiana and we highly recommend staying here! Thank you for having us!

  • Stay at the Bon Temps Tree Room! The Tree Room is gorgeous, clearly a work of love. Sunset is a neat little town, with easy access to the wonderful little towns in St. Landry Parish and Acadiana. The room is clean and updated, and has a great selection of vinyl that we played every night, Dave is such a wonderful host, he gave us great tips on things to do and a great restaurant in town that we loved. A final note- for the cat lovers, Gladys is the cutest, sweetest little girl, make sure you say hi to her. All around a wonderful place. Thanks Dave.

  • The weather was horrible in Southern Louisiana the day we had planned our trip. There was up to 15 inches of torrential downpour in some locations. The flooding on a major thoroughfare (us-190) was so intense that we had to creep along and the water was up to the bottom of the doors of my pickup (which is thankfully lifted 4"). Dave was very understanding and accommodating and even offered to refund my money if I just wanted to turn around and go back home. I am a stubborn man however, and my girlfriend and I haven't had a getaway without our kiddos in over a year so we were taking this trip come literally hell or high water. Upon arriving to our destination, we discovered a lighthouse in the storm. A Beacon of hope. An oasis? Shelter from the storm. And what a cozy, quaint charming little slice of heaven it was. Nestled high in an oak treetop and just above a beautiful eccentric garden. Dave and his wife were so hospitable it almost felt like staying with family although the room was very exclusive and private. The restaurant in town was nice (Cafe Josephine) although I must admit that the banana bread Dave's wife made for breakfast was a much more enjoyable homie meal for the both of us. We were actually considering asking if we could pay for one more night and just camp out there at Dave's for the weekend. Ultimately, we left sooner than we wanted to but felt refreshed and rejuvenated. PS-The bed and pillows are super comfortable. Even though it was just a full size bed and I am 6'2"/220lbs it was a great nights sleep. We were "forced" to cuddle. ;)

  • Very much enjoyed our stay in Sunset. We were a travel wary couple and the hospitality we received was very much appreciated. Enjoying an iced tea on the porch chatting with our hosts and listening to the roosters. Wished we could have stayed longer. Very highly recommend. One of the standouts with Airbnb.

    Monica2016-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Dave and his wife were wonderful hosts. They helped point is in the right direction for Cajun food and things to do in the area! Dave always brings a wonderful breakfast every morning, even at the ideal time for you. I will undoubtedly be staying here again next time I visit Lafayette and the surrounding area.

One of those never to forget travel experiences. Definitely go and get a deep dive Louisiana experience!" "We like to think Airbnb was created for these kind of accommodations. The location is wonderful but the best part is the hosts. Jim and Christy are amazing people who provide their wary travelers with everything they could hope for. We can advise you this: Go! You will forever remember the experience!" "Jim and Christy are absolute gems. As hosts, they do everything you can ask for and more - they provide you with the true South Louisiana experience. Regardless of if you're staying in the house, the barn, or the Whirlybird, you're in for a treat." RE: The Whirlybird - "a bit like going into a folk art museum-cum-pinball machine in order to shower." "Wonderful outpost to explore the best of Cajun land, or simply rest at home and take in peace and quiet in an inspired and thoughtfully created residence." "To say that Jim and Christy are wonderful people would be an understatement. Their property is beautiful and you can tell they really care about preserving the houses and land." "Jim and Christy are at the core of the local community and are very generous in sharing their time and experiences. You really couldn't hope for better hosts!" "Jim and Christy are warm, welcoming, and love having people over. Their house gorgeous like out of a movie." "The house and the grounds are magical but the real joy for me was the Whirlybird barn where I was able to write music all day and enjoy the many things it has to offer."
We are in the countryside of St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. The Whirlybird is privately set way back off a small country highway and surrounded by farmland. It is very quiet - except for the birds and the occasional cow bellow - or - on those occasions when The Honky Tonk is in full tilt party mode. The countryside we live in is highly populated by artists and we love that we have many artists as neighbors and friends.
  • Great place!

  • We very much enjoyed our stay at the honkytonk and whirlybird. The accommodations were perfectly appointed with all the little touches that made it feel like a home away from home. It was an oasis of quirkiness that my family loved. Jim was hospitable enough to give us a list of great music to hit in the area as well. Great hosts and fabulous homes!

  • Wonderful outpost to explore the best of Cajun land, or simply rest at home and take in peace and quiet in an inspired and thoughtfully created residence. The love Jim & Christy have put in to the whirlybird is palpable and will make you feel right at home. As hosts, they couldn't have been any more helpful and awesome all around. Must stay spot. Thanks so much! Xxk

  • I admire Jim and Christy's fun hobby of restoring old buildings and creating a living space out of them. We chose to stay at the Honky Tonk bedroom- which was once an old bar/recreation space they had. The space includes a bedroom and small study area, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen with microwave (no stove yet but we did not need one), a screened patio, and with the rest of it being the bar/ recreation area. Bed was comfy and the shower pressure was good. Towels, soap and shampoo were provided. You might want to keep your shoes on when walking around the bar area outside of the bedroom as the floorboards are made of rough wood planks (not sure how to describe it accurately). It was fun to see all the items Jim and Christy have collected over the years and all the DIY fixtures they created in this space. Jim and Christy were very responsive before and during our stay, giving us guidance on how to get to their place ((SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps seemed to provide a different location). As hosts, they definitely had their guests (our) best interest in mind- preparing rain boots and large umbrellas upon our arrival, and graciously allowing us to reconsider staying in one of their guest rooms inside the plantation home instead of the bar given the unforseen daily stormy weather. The yard flooded with the rain and so we were unable to drive up close to the honky tonk bar to unload. This required loading the bags onto a dolley and hauling them 100 feet through the flooded yard. It was actually a fun part of the experience but might not be for everyone. They are in the process of making improvements to the driveway to allow better vehicle and foot traffic during rainy days and may one day allow parties/weddings to be hosted in their space. The location itself is remote - nothing to do/see in the immediate vicinity besides some flea markets nearby, but they have a lovely yard with birds chirping so you can just enjoy some relaxation, which is what we did. Overall, a great stay! You'd be hard pressed to find a cooler more unique AirBnB place to stay!

  • The Folk Art Honkytonk was nothing short of phenomenal! We were in the midst of a road trip and arrived a little bit later than we expected, but Jim and Christy were so welcoming and accommodating! Their communication was instant, and we really enjoyed their company the following morning when they gave us a tour of their home and offered us coffee and pastries. The Honkytonk itself was like having an entire inn to ourselves... we stayed up all night long listening to zydeco music , having a few cocktails, and taking lots of pictures! The next morning, we were amazed at the scenery their property has to offer. Coming from up north, we were thrilled to see all of the tropical flowers and plants, as well as a few adorable lizards! We will definitely be returning for a longer stay, and we hope to someday have the opportunity to see a show there!

  • This visit to a region I've grown to love felt just like returning home. Christy and Jim have created a delightful haven as comfortable as it is offbeat. This is one of the most distinctive places I've ever stayed - an easy drive to Opelousas or Lafayette and about two hours west of New Orleans, yet far enough out of town to immerse guests in country living. That means broad green stretches of land, cows lowing on the property next door and a sky full of stars at night. Jim and Christy are terrific hosts, too. They know a lot about the regional culture, work hard to help it thrive and welcome visitors with true warmth and good humor. This won't be my last visit with them!

    Cheryl2016-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • We chose to stay here because it was close to the wedding reception we were in town for, and because it looked interesting. I'm late for everything ever, so we didn't have time to go check in before the reception; Jim waited up for us to show us around--it must have been almost midnight by the time we got there, but he was really really nice and helpful, as well as communicative and easy to get in touch with during the whole experience. My only regret is that we didn't have more time to spend there! We'll definitely be back.

  • A wonderful, funky, space. We loved our night at the Art Barn and would highly recommend. Jim and Christy were a delight and their Louisiana hide-away was the best of Airbnb.

  • Susan should be under the Super Host Label!. She is kind and very hospitable, her tiny house is just as described, it is brand new with exquisite design details; frankly it was quite beyond my expectation. I felt like home and I slept very comfortable. I had a very good experience. It was very nice to find the fridge stocked with tea, milk and water bottles. Coffee and biscuits also available for consomption. The neighborhood is very safe and peaceful. I had the pleasure of taking a walk with Susan to explore amazing views of Grand Coteu Historic District just blocks away from the house. I would highly recommend Susan's property to an Airbnb guest who is looking for great accommodation and super friendly host.

  • This property offers the perfect location for exploring the village of Grand Coteau. Susan was very friendly and made every effort to insure my comfort. Good shopping and restaurants within walking distance. I was in Grand Coteau for a Retreat and the property is located at the back entrance of the Jesuit Spirituality Center. Exactly what I needed. The sheets were especially nice.

My place is close to parks, art and culture, and the airport. My place is good for couples and solo adventurers. This property is located in the Acadiana Country, Southwest Louisiana. There are festivals all year long in surrounding areas from 1 mile to 60 miles. New Orleans is approximately 2 hours away. There's plenty of dancing and good times in this area.
This is a 760 square foot guest house that has a full kitchen with dinette set, air and heat, one queen bed and a trundle bed. 1 full bathroom with tub and shower. 55" television with cable. Large walk in closet. Two seat recliner. Front porch with chairs and barbecue grill on side under tent. There is a full parking space next to guest house. The guest house is located close to the pool, pool house and tennis court.
What makes this property unique is that although it is in a small town, it is centrally located. There are grocers and pharmacy in less than a mile. The property is completed fenced and gated and serves as a compound. There is a movie theater less than 2 miles away and restaurants and shops in less than 2 miles. • I was pleasantly surprised at what a relaxing spot this turned out to be. I don't think I had any expectations because I was just looking for something inexpensive near family while I was in town. This blows any cheap motel out of the water for the price point. The home design is gorgeous. Old country meets modern. I wish I had taken pictures! The bathroom kind of sold me. I slept so well on the giant comfortable bed, I'd rent again just to stay in the house and enjoy some peace and quiet away from the city. Especially if it's raining. If you need a place near Lafayette, I'd say skip the motel and stay in the country house. You won't regret it.

  • Stevie, friends and Mr. Bon (the Australian Shepherd) were great people to stay with. The location is quiet, secluded and peaceful.. The home is a new build Acadian style home built using antique reclaimed cypress. Very Impressive. More impressive is that Stevie and family built it themselves. Good times, great food and better people.

Huge bedroom with attached bath connected to reading room full of books related to the history of the area/Acadian culture. Host was helpful, friendly, laid back and welcoming, without being intrusive. Really enjoyed our two days here.

  • This was a great house to stay in. It isn't in the middle of nowhere but it's secluded enough to not have any noise at all. It was clean, communication was great, and the house has everything that you need.

    Alexandria2017-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Place is cute!! However, there is noise from residence upstairs when walking around which can be bothersome if you're a light sleeper. Not sure how the water heater is set up but you don't get a lot of hot water for your shower. Wi-Fi is also very slow. Parking can also be a challenge if there is not enough space left in the driveway. I cleaning fee seems to be overpriced for the amount of space that exists. Just gives an impression that it might be an unethical practice for the owner to gain more profit.

  • This place was very nice. We stayed for 2 weeks. Though it is not in the city it was worth the drive. You can't beat the amenities and cost compared to the other properties we considered that were directly in the city. Not only were we able to save money.. we were very pleased with how nice this place was. Modern and upscale. Bed was super comfy as well as the oversized couch. Mary and her husband were very friendly and close by.. always willing to help.

  • We would definitely return to Coteau Villa. Pictures are on point, it is a lovely southern, modern accommodation in a charming countryside setting yet close enough to town. Unexpected farm fresh eggs delivered one morning was a nice surprise that I cooked up on the gas stove! Mary Ann and Mohamed are truly a class act, a very nice couple. So, if you are looking for a comfortable 'home away from away', don't look any further, Coteau Villa will hands down, 'beat any local hotel with parking lot view' . We enjoyed cooking our own breakfast enjoying coffee outside viewing the scenic pond with fountains. Also, it is has a large fenced yard which was perfect for our pug, Harley. We found really cute lil' shops nearby for shopping, and it's close enough to restaurants nearby. We attending a wedding at The Colomb Foundation which was literally minutes away from Coteau Villa.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Mary Ann and her husband. The apartment is clean, well layed out, with enough space. We liked that we could do laundry and prepare breakfast. It was nice after spending time in hotels on our roadtrip to have our own space. Particularly nice was arriving to some welcome treats and some basics like salt, coffee, sugar, toothpaste, etc. Very friendly hosts. We will definitely book with them again in future.

  • Mary Ann's place was awesome! We arrived and found a sweet surprise waiting for us that we enjoyed throughout the weekend! The place had everything we needed and was very clean which was nice! We even went paddle boating one morning and that was a nice addition to our stay. I'm thankful I found this place out in the country to stay. It was very peaceful, and not far from Lafayette so it was like getting away but still able to get to events that we wanted to attend.

  • une bonne adresse située en campagne, lieu calme et agréable. Le couchage pour une troisième personne est limité au canapé (qui ne fait pas lit). Néanmoins, à recommander

  • Truly wonderful little place. Me and my family had to evacuate Florida and we needed something a little more affordable. This unit was very inexpensive and located in a very private location. The hosts were wonderful and the upstairs tenants were very friendly. We had to check in at about 5am due to traffic leaving Florida and they gladly accommodated this request. This is a very private location. It's very peaceful and quiet. There's a lovely pond in the back of the property and they have chickens! They brought us freshly laid eggs for breakfast and they also left wine and some sweets for us. If you want a relaxing little escape, I highly recommend. You have the city within 15 min and you get the tranquility of nature. The place itself was very nicely decorated, it had pots and pans, TV & wifi. If I could give it more stars, I would!!! Next time I'm in Lafayette, I will definitely come back here.

Locals who show their lives and make you a part of it. One of those never to forget travel experiences. Definitely go and get a deep dive Louisiana experience!" "To say that Jim and Christy are wonderful people would be an understatement. Their property is beautiful and you can tell they really care about preserving the houses and land." "Jim and Christy are at the core of the local community and are very generous in sharing their time and experiences. You really couldn't hope for better hosts!" "The house and the grounds are magical but the real joy for me was the Whirlybird barn where I was able to write music all day and enjoy the many things it has to offer." Our guests - our fellow Airbnb travel club members - are independent. We welcome them into our home, strive to make their stay and local experience memorable and comfortable. We respect their privacy, as we expect them to respect ours. We love to share our adventurous lives in SWLA and have worked hard to create a one-of-a-kind environment for creative thinking, artistic inspiration, relaxation, quiet reflection - or - storytelling, let your hair down celebration, good food and libations, music, dancing, laughing and meaningful conversation. And, of course, there is plenty of that Way Down Yonder, Yeah You Right, Sho' 'Nuf, turn-out-the-lights-and-call-the-doctor-not-the-law kinda FUN to be had by all. Stonewood is a modest agricultural plantation built in the late 1800's by one of two brothers who founded a local hospital. It was originally over 200 acres of agricultural land. Maison Stonewood was separated on 5 acres and the agricultural property was sold - but the 200 acres of agricultural land is still part of a working farm with vegetable production and cattle. All the original farm land surrounds Stonewood, protecting the rural atmosphere. The house, made of architectural stone, is set way back off the small country highway, so it is very quiet. We live in an area that is highly populated by artists and we love having many artists as neighbors. Also, a big plus - The Whirlybird - described in the June 2011 Issue of Southern Living Magazine - is just across the garden on the property. Valerie Luesse says, "Jim decided he didn't have the right gathering space for his circle of music-loving friends, so he bought an old Texaco distribution center & moved it to a secret location." We are in the countryside of historic St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. We are the perfect outpost - a cultural crossroad - between Austin/Houston/Dallas and New Orleans. Stonewood and The Whirlybird compound is set way back off a small country highway and surrounded by farmland, so it is often very quiet - except for the birds, the occasional cow bellow, farm equipment - or when The Honky Tonk is in full tilt mode. The countryside we live in is highly populated by artists and we love that we have many artists as neighbors. We have many artists come up from New Orleans to get away and experience rural Acadiana and its inspiring creative energy.

  • Me and my friend had a great time staying in the beautiful and funky cool folky art barn. It's a genuinely amazing place and truly my only regret was that we could only stay one night. This place is highly recommended A+++++!!!!

  • Jim and Christy were wonderful hosts! They have a truly beautiful place and were more than hospitable, making our party feel right at home. Their barn is spacious and comfortable and the property it sits on is amazing. It is a definite "must" if you find yourself staying in the area, we hope to be back again next year!

    Frank2016-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • If you don't need the perfect predictability of a hotel, opt for something much better! This is one of those AirBnB Jewels. It's centrally located for exploring Acadiana, but don't plan too much... You'll want to allow time for enjoying your beautiful, unique accommodations, inside and out. We had no hesitation spending extended mornings lounging in this artfully reconstructed barn with so much wood, windows and folk art. Being there was half the fun. Plus, if there's an event at the Whirlybird, don't miss it! Jim and Christy are the ultimate hosts who've created an incredible retreat unlike any other.

  • We were looking for a low key place to serve as a base to spend a week enjoying southern Louisiana music and food. We came to the right place! Jim and Christy, who are incredibly warm and hospitable, had great music and food advice. (Special shout out to Fred's Lounge, the Blue Moon Saloon, the Taco Sisters and the Grand Coteau Bistro!) The folk art décor is completely charming. The space is very comfortable and roomy, has two wonderful porches and gets lots of light. We wish we could have stayed another week!

    Robin2016-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a unique stay outside of New Orleans then stay here! Jim was fantastic to deal with. Very responsive online and gracious in person. The art barn set alongside his house is a work of art. The place oozes with passion and creativity. Easy distance to Lafayette and beautiful bayous. Do the Cajun country swamp tour which Jim recommended. It was one of the highlights of our trips to see alligators and learn about the bayou natural ecosystem from a true local. Thanks Jim for making our trip memorable.

  • Please read the previous review on this adorable and wonderful place!! Such a great wonderland to visit. The beds are very comfortable. The art is amazing. The Folk Art Barn is perfect for anyone who loves an Airbnb experience. Jim and Christy are so personable and sweet, they went out of their way to make us comfortable. Southern hospitality at it's finest! So please, if you are even considering an adventure out this way, stay with these folks. You won't regret it for a second, Eric and I enjoyed every drop!!

  • Jim and Christy's place is awesome!! It's a super unique funky place and was super perfect for a nice relaxing time! Jim walked us around and was super nice upon our check in. We were able to ride to near by restaurants and had a great place to come back to! We are already looking forward to staying again!! Thank you!!!!

  • My husband and I loved the small, cozy casita! The fresh citrus was nice too. I liked having the brochures to thumb through; as we had no strict plans. It's beautiful and our hosts were most accommodating. :)

  • Great place to stay in the Area. Great people hosting the cottage. Nice coffee shop in walking distance.

  • Loved staying at Casa Azul. It was the perfect getaway for the city and I will definitely stay again when I'm in the area. Patrice and Olan have thought of every detail and It was so welcoming and pleasant to have fresh baked breakfast delivered to my door ️ definitely consider staying here, great location, atmosphere and hosts.

    Lauren2017-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about my trip - the cottage, the town, the people - was absolutely lovely. Olan and Patrice provided a very warm and welcoming home, and made hands down the very best banana bread I have ever eaten for breakfast one morning. They were accommodating in every way. I don't have a single complaint - I would strongly recommend staying here!

    Lana2016-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Being new to Airbnb, we weren't sure what to expect. After settling in, it turned out the best part of our trip was coming "home" to the comfortable, inviting Casita Azul. The hosts were inviting but also respected our privacy from the moment we arrived. We really enjoyed all the details (especially the kitchen drawer knobs) and fine craftmanship that went into this little cottage. The bathroom is beautiful! The fresh, hot scone/biscuits they made for us are heaven! Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer and explore the area.

    Daniel2015-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a dreamy stay at the Casita! Olan was an extremely generous host, bringing over an iron and ironing board when we needed one, and leaving a picnic basket of warm breakfast goodies on our porch each morning. The house was clean, beautifully adorned, and very comfortable. We definitely hope to return soon! I couldn't recommend staying here more highly!

    wilhelmina2016-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this place! It was in a nice, quiet neighborhood with a quaint little town around it. There was even a restaurant within walking distance. Only a short driving distance away from both Lafayette and Chicot State Park made this the perfect place for us to do our weekend getaway! It was exceptionally clean and spacious. Olan offered nice, fluffy towels and a huge shower with plenty of hot water! The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen area was just what we needed! It had its own private parking and driveway as well. The best touch was the breakfast each morning! We are planning to stay again when we make it out to Lafayette!

This darling Cajun house is located on a quiet street in the "Frog Capital of the World"! The City of Rayne is also called the "Louisiana City of Murals" because there are many beautiful frog murals throughout town. Businesses have also added Frog statues outside their establishments which are really popular. To add to this you are just 15 miles from all the fun and food in Lafayette, La.
Guests can use all of the house. We have a storage building outside that is private.
A quiet neighborhood that is just a few blocks from downtown.
Lise

  • This cajun cottage was just the place for my wife and I to visit for our 5th anniversary. The homeowners added a personal touch, knowing that it was our anniversary, they left a bottle of champagne in the refrigerator for us to celebrate with. Communication with the homeowners was so very easy, they were available at anytime we needed them. Everything was just like the pictures. The claw foot tub was magical and so refreshing to just take a soak in. As an added perk, they have a washer and dryer so we were able to wash clothes as needed. This is the perfect spot if you were trying to get away from it all for a weekend or even longer.

  • Chris was amazing. Very thoughtful and accommodating. The cottage was so much better than expected. The pictures reallly dont do it justice. Just what we needed on our stay

    Gayzella2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures do not do this house justice. This was the most quaint and lovely cottage I've ever seen. It is extremely quite and the food in this little city is to die for. The layout is great because one bedroom is upstairs and one down. The only drawback is there is one bathroom in one of the bedrooms but that was not really a problem for us. The hosts were wonderful and easy to contact. The neighborhood is quite and peaceful at night. We sat on the porch and drank wine and just listened to the night. 5 stars for sure. I will be staying there again.

Bellevue Manor offers short term rentals, BUT we offer discounted monthly or long term rentals or leasing (inquire via email). We also offer the house as an Event Rental for parties and special events. The home was built in 1874 by Professor Rudolf Adelbert Mayer, a noted musician & pupil of composer Richard Wagner. The home has 141 years of history in the heart of Cajun culture. The house can accommodate 10 people comfortably. It has 5 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms nestled on nearly 4 acres.
Bellevue Manor predominately offers short term rentals, BUT we offer discounted monthly or long term rentals or leasing (inquire within). The home is 141 years old furnished with original rare New Orleans antiques. I've personally owned the home since 2006, my extended family lived here since 1874. It is located on nearly 3.7 acres of land with several miniature horses and small barn on the property. The home has 12 foot ceilings, a little over 3,000 square ft. The house has 5 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a library/study, dining room and kitchen. The house sleeps 10 people comfortably, 12 if you choose to use our queen size air mattress per request. The DOWNSTAIRS has 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, study/library, living room, dining room and kitchen. The UPSTAIRS has 3 bedrooms, a sitting area and one full bath/shower. Outside has a gas BBQ and 900 sq.-ft. covered patio area. Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino is less than 5 minutes away. The house works out great for folks who don't want to rent several hotel rooms and prefer the option to have family and friends under one roof, like to cook or BBQ with family or friends privately. I've hosted guests who have come to Opelousas for local weddings, bridal groups who need a space to get ready or honeymoon suite, overseas tourists, private parities or used venue rental (priced separately). The home has several miniature ponies on the property, which are a hit with children. The west side of the property that is fenced can support ample parking for large events (about 2 acres). The photos describe which bedrooms are upstairs and downstairs. If you wish to learn more on the history of Bellevue Manor & it's builder you can copy the link below and read the full bio on the builder: Rudolph Adelbert Sebastian Mayer or google his name. He was an accomplished composer, musician, founder of one of the first all woman's brass ensemble in the South, inventor of one of the first pre-civil war breech-loading rifles and inventor of one the first forms of color photography, among other things. Seasonal and weekend rates vary. http://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/mayer/805/ SPECIAL EVENTS: The home is ideal for photo shoots, special events, private parties, corporate events and wedding receptions are separate pricing and considered a VENUE RENTAL. WEDDINGS, RECEPTIONS, VOW RENEWALS, PRIVATE/CORPORATE PARTYS, WORK EVENTS ARE CONSIDERED A "SPECIAL EVENT" therefore the rate is the VENUE RENTAL and approved per inquiry ONLY since the price needs to be adjusted on my calendar prior to booking. The VENUE rental rate is $1,800 for the day of the event, which INCLUDES the overnight accommodations for 10-12 only. Any additional nights needed before of after the special event are the standard rental rate of $250/night. For SPECIAL EVENTS/RECEPTIONS we welcome the option to bring in your own caterer and beverages. Decorating, table rentals, outdoor lighting, candles, etc. optional. If you need recommendations, please inquire. EXCEPTIONS: If a bride has already chosen a wedding venue or reception venue elsewhere, BUT the bridal party needs a place for herself and her bridesmaids to get ready and take some photos, we treat this as a standard nightly rental rate, NOT a special event rate, but a TWO-night minimum still applies, but that includes the honeymoon suite and allows a great place to get the bridal party ready and take photos. Family and/or friend gatherings of 20 and under are the regular rate and NOT considered Special Event. Please inquire via email if you have questions. Keep in mind, Airbnb.com does no show your phone numbers or personal email address on booking inquiries, so unfortunately initial inquiries have to me discussed via email. Our base rate is $200-$250 per night, but subject to change depending on the time of year. Guest of 6 or less are the base price. Some seasonal rates MAY apply after 6 guests, which can be $50 per person per night, but depending on the occasion we may wave the additional person rate. I promise you it's still cheaper than multiple hotel rooms, so please understand why this is so.
The home is centrally located to restaurants and Interstate. Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino is less than 5 minutes away. Old and historic neighborhood in the heart of the historic district. It is quiet and safe as I have personally lived here with my own family and children for many years. The historic district is aiming for revitalization, which we are part of. I know most of my neighbors and is been safe area for my own family for many years. Evangeline Downs Race Track & Casino is less than one mile away from the house. "Frank's" a famous local sports bar & and New Orleans style Po-boy sandwich shop is one block away and walking distance on Landry St./Oak St. for sit in or carry out. The Historic Village of Washington is 10 minutes North on 1-49 with a great family restaurant with award-winning seafood called the "The Steamboat Warehouse Restaurant". The village of Washington has loads of antiques shops open Friday-Sunday. The village has a well known restaurant called "The Steamboat Restaurant" which is house in a pre-cival war cotton warehouse (excellent food and vibe). The historic home off Bellevue House is in the historic district 3 blocks from the town square, where one can eat at "Back In Time" or "The Palace Cafe", both restaurants are on Landry St. across from the courthouse square. Vieux Village history museum is 3 blocks away at the Farmer's Market. Have fun and enjoy!

  • The Listing was totally accurate, Jonathan was super communicative and easy going. My brother left his sunglasses and Jonathan, without us even asking, shipped them to us! We were looking for a beautiful space to hang out with friends, cook a lot and just chill for the weekend and this place hit all of those resoundingly! The house has numerous "hang" spaces, including an awesome porch and side patio, along with indoor rooms that are great for group hang too. We managed to do quite a few things in Opelousas, including walking to Mama's fried chicken (which we ate all weekend) and Frank's bar for drinks and pool. The house is within walking distance of other cafes, too, and Billy and Ray's boudin store (DELICIOUS) and the downtown Opelousas village and Orphan Train museum. Lafayette and Whiskey River Landing, where we saw Geno Delafose, are a short drive away. We were a group of 9 and were super-comfortable. I could definitely see this space for a beautiful party as well.

  • We had a wonderful time at Bellevue Manor. Jonathan met us at the home to give us a welcoming tour. The home is filled with generations of history. We had a great stay and will be returning. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality, Jonathan. The Fosters

  • We had a wonderful time at Jonathan's house. The house is gorgeous and full of history. It's also comfortable. Jonathan welcomed us and gave us a tour, complete with history of the house and the family, whose pictures are throughout. He even went out and bought a baby gate when I expressed concern about keeping the children off the stairs. Really enjoyable things to do nearby while we were there: Chicot State Park, the Orphan Train Museum, a state fair in Lafayette, and Evangeline Downs racetrack, and berry picking farms (a little further away).

  • I can't express enough how amazing this place was. And how accommodating Jonathan was. We felt like royalty staying in this house. Not sure if had a better Airbnb experience, and I've been traveling and hosting for 4 years!

I don't know that I can adequately describe how satisfied we all were with our stay! The house itself is straight out of a history book, and you just couldn't help but feel like you'd somehow slipped back in time just by staying there. Jonathan was a terrific host who went out of his way to make us feel welcome. Everything was there that we needed to make this our "home away from home" during our stay, and we instantly felt comfortable there. I don't take making a recommendation lightly, but I can honestly say that this would be the perfect base of operations for any family visit to the heart of Cajun country! Whether you plan to stay around Opelousas, or travel to Lafayette and other surrounding communities like we did, this piece of local history is an absolute gem!

  • An amazing experience staying in the manor house! It was like stepping back in time. Luckily the kitchen and bathrooms have all the necessary mod cons. Fun nearby includes Saturday morning Cajun dancing at Fred’s Lounge in Mamou, as well as the Orphan Train Museum and Vieux Village, and St. Landry’s Catholic Church. We had lunch at the Palace Cafe and dinner at Steamboat Warehouse. Both excellent. Laissez le bons temps roullez!

  • A fabulous place to stay! Great host! Very clean and we loved all the extra touches. Highly recommend!

  • This place was a fabulous experience. The cabin is so quaint and cute especially the decor, the essential oil diffuser, and the welcome. The sprawling property is remarkable and the amenities abound. We enjoyed every bit of our stay at "Smoky Mountain". The attention to detail and the hospitality were amazing. We will not forget our weekend or the "whoppers" we caught, especially the kids.

  • To the Andrepont family: Your cabin proved to be the perfect weekend get away for our out of town guests! Inside and out, you didn't miss a thing! Fishing, "carting", kayaking, and grilling on the front porch as you watch the sunset- amazing! Thank you for a very memorable (and much needed) weekend! We will be bringing visitors again soon! Our best to you all, Creig and Natalie Landry

  • It was a very pleasant stay. The hosts are very reactive, precise and kind in their answers. They were careful with small detaild like flowers, beers and farm eggs in the fridge. We really felt like guests. The home was cute and we loved the outdoor with the lake. It's rather close to all the things to do in the area. We would definitely recommend this place.

  • Very clean, comfortable room in a house with a warm, friendly, and helpful host. Bernadette was lovely to talk to and gave us tips on getting to the Festival International shuttle and what to check out when there. Her place is in a pleasant spot just outside of Lafayette, so a car is needed to get to and from town (was about a 10 minute drive to Festival shuttle).

    Thom2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • Scott, LA is a town in Lafayette Parish, outside the city limits of Lafayette. Scott is a very quiet and safe community, with a robust police presence of Scott PD and Lafayette Sheriff Dept. vehicles patrolling all over town. Bernadette's home is about 5-10 minutes from the town center of Scott, LA. Bernie is a nice lady, with a good hearted and caring personality, but self admittedly lonely and eccentric, and has some odd hobbies, such as several "adult" coloring books (you heard me right) which she has literally filled hundreds of pages with her coloring. Bernie is a heavy smoker, but almost always smokes inside. Bernie does drink heavily on occasion, such as after a long work day (she is a petite woman at only 135 pounds, but pours wine and whiskey cocktails for herself all night long.......). When Bernie starts drinking she likes to tell her whole life story, and the story of her little house which she purchased 20 years ago. Both of these subjects (her life/her house) get her quite emotional at times, several times to the point where she is in tears and choking up, especially if she starts to talk about her son. So grab a snickers bar and be ready to listen, and see a lot of pictures and collectible items she has acquired over her years and decades, if you decide to start pouring drinks with Bernadette Bergeron. Bernie also has some memory issues, and the alcohol does not help in that area. Bernie would literally ask me the exact same question about something half a dozen times or more, which became awkward to answer after the first three times. Bernie would have her coloring books and coloring items all over the eating table, which made it awkward and difficult when trying to sit down at the table and eat. Parking at Bernie's house is a hassle, as the streets in her neighborhood are very small, and Bernie objects to a guests' vehicle parking two of it's tires on the grass in front of her home (even though many of her neighbors do this practice at their residences). I had to park across the street a couple houses away, and walk to Bernie's house every night, but it was not nearly as bad a parking in a big city. Bernie has NO WI-FI, and this does quickly burn up data packages on a cell phone plan, not to mention WI-FI is almost always faster than any cellular data service. Bernie did not communicate many negative issues until after my stay was almost over, or until after I left, and many of her accusations about me were innacurrate or completely untrue (such as my not taking off my shoes in her house, or using her "decorative" bath towels). I bent over backwards to be a good AirBnb guest, and Bernie repeatedly told me I was one of her best roommates while I was actually with her. The night before I checked out, and...

    ANDREI2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Bernie's house is in a quiet subdivision in Scott, LA (Lafayette Metro Area). Bernie is generally a good host, and friendly, but her eating table is essentially a small art studio for her many coloring books. It was awkward trying to eat at the dining table amongst dozens of coloring items and coloring books. Bernie has no Wi-Fi or cable/satellite TV, and future guests need to be informed upfront about this. Bernie has only one drive way, and it is too impractical to park directly behind her car because she goes to work early in the morning. Bernie will not allow guests to park in front of her home because she said it harms her lawn. I had to park a short walk away from her house for the week or so I stayed with her. Overall I would recommend Bernie's house to a traveler that demands a quiet neighborhood, and privacy. There are only 2 bedrooms in Bernie's house, so the AirBnb guest does not have to share the home with anyone but Bernie, which I felt was one of the best parts of her AirBnb home. Overall I would give Bernie a 7/10 as a host.

    ANDREI2017-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Very welcoming and comfortable house. Betnadette is very energetic and loves art. Other than that it's a quiet neighborhood near I-10

    Javier2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Loved Bernadette and her place! Pros: private bathroom just outside of the bedroom, quiet residential area, parking in the driveway Cons: no TV in the bedroom, no wifi Considerations: the host smokes, but outside. This wasn't an issue for me, but it may be for some I wanted boudin for dinner, and Bernadette drove me to her favorite spot. She was very friendly and made me so comfortable. She didn't even realize I was coming, because her phone had recently been broken and she couldn't check her AirBnB account, but she was really lovely. I would gladly stay with her again.

    Reyna2017-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • As any AirBnb guest can see, I already wrote two back-to-back reviews of Bernie's little house in Scott Louisiana. I give her a 7/10. :) I would go back to her place again if she would accept me, but I am not sure if she would. Days after I checked out, she has been sending me text messages accusing me issues that are not worth getting worked up about, such as my using her washer and dryer to clean "all of my clothes.......", as she put it. I paid her a daily rate of $40 to stay in her home, which had no WI-FI or parking, so I think that it is more than reasonable that I wash and dry my clothes at her home. Bernie is eccentric and lonely, but overall and good host with a big heart. :)

La Solange cottage is a 2 person Jacuzzi cottage that is close to the airport, downtown festivities, churches, shopping, and right off of I-10 and I-49, making it easy to get to wherever you want to be within minutes. Traveling without a vehicle is no issue, Uber is available. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. We have a 2-person Jacuzzi, king size bed, flat screen TV, kitchenette, sitting area and a semi-secluded balcony.
The cottage is just the right place for you to relax! It is located on its own lot approximately 1 mile from where I live. It is just off of I-49 with easy access to restaurants and the city, but still far enough away from the city to enjoy the country feel.

  • This was our second stay at Jared's home and it was just as wonderful as our first stay! The home is incredibly comfortable and there was more than enough room for the two of us. We enjoyed spending time out on the porch and cooking in the very well-equipped kitchen. From the Cajun music that greeted us to the incredible lighting to the high-end rustic finishes, it's clear that Jared and his family have put a lot of effort and love into maintaining the charm of this home. • I stayed with Ima during the month of Oct 2016. This experience far outweighed my expectations. The studio is spotless, great location (quiet), beautiful yard, cozy porch to sit at a table and read or work on my computer. Ima is the host personified! She is attentive to her quests. The amenities- frig with supplies upon arrival, pantry with goodies, freezer supplies with good 'ol Jimmy Dean breakfast goodies. She is a great conversationalist. Matter of fact- I am staying the month of November 16 also! My studio is already decorated for fall.

She provided fruit and a sweet little provisions in the fridge which I really appreciated at the end of a long day!

  • I really enjoyed the time I spent at Wilson's place. He was very welcoming. He's in a great location and would definitely stay there again.

  • Unfortunately, I never got a chance to meet Wilson. However, he made every accommodation so that I was able to get settled in easily. The room was fantastic – clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend it.

  • We didn t meet Wilson but the room was perfect. It is clean and confortable. We had a lot of privacy. If you are looking for a quiet space go for it!

  • This was an awesome stay. Close to the freeway and hidden away with lots of nature. Room and was cozy. I was the only one there and did not get to meet the host.

    Jody2015-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Wilson's place. The space was perfect- clean, comfortable, quiet. Wilson had everything set up the we could have asked for and was very quick to respond to the few questions we had about things to do on our trip. Our only complaint was that it was too comfortable! We had to force ourselves to go out! I'd definitely stay here again next time I'm in Lafayette.

  • From the moment you pull into the driveway your eye is pulled to the lovely garden, meticulously designed by hand. Walls of bamboo ensure privacy, and a feeling of comfort as you sit and enjoy the soundscape of rustling leaves and falling acorns. It's November now and the colored flowers were still vibrant specs on a sea of green. Moving past the garden there is a path leading to an even more private back deck and sitting nook. This area is perfect for morning coffee or reading a book in solitude while the sun streaks through the canopy of trees overhead. When you've spent enough time enjoying nature directly, it's time to move into the guest house. Herman's guest house has a wonderfully modern aesthetic, comfortable furniture, and interesting artwork throughout. The massive windows on two corners of the building are perfect for gazing over the garden or watching the friendly cats play outside. Sitting in the main room of the building feels somewhat like visiting a gallery. Every direction greets your eye with something to gaze upon. Even the television was deliberately picked for its aesthetic quality. I booked this location for photography. I had portraiture in mind when I started, but the architecture and the landscaping quickly became important elements in my images. I could not point my camera in any direction and find it displeasing except where I had disturbed the environment with my gear. I highly recommend this location to anyone looking to enjoy peaceful tranquility a heartbeat away from downtown. Herman is very kind and attentive when requested and respects a desire for privacy as well. He is full of knowledge and stories about his time in Paris and how he came to create the works of art on the walls. I have no regrets for picking this AirBNB.

  • Herman is a gracious and welcoming host. It is worth noting that he is the founding president of Festival International de Louisiane and former director of the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum. This guest house with its spacious interior and exposed joist ceiling offers a refuge of inspiration and tranquility. The natural light inside is lovely and there are dimmers that allow the interior lighting to be adjusted. The outdoor lighting makes coming in after dark effortless. The Laz-Y-Boy sofa does indeed transform into a very comfortable bed, something I had wondered about. The kitchen is user friendly. Herman had croissants, yogurt, bottled water and a Keurig coffee maker available. The cooktop was easy to use; its controls were sensitive which made cooking pleasurable. There is a closet for hanging clothes and many drawers for tucking away other items. And I absolutely loved the rain shower! So much attention to detail went into creating this space, that I recommend it to everyone!

  • Wow. A+ on this space. Aesthetically pleasing inside and out . Very modern ,clean, and such attention to detail. This host communicated very well , and was so helpful on local attractions. We were very close to River Ranch shopping and Cajundome for a concert . I can’t wait to book again !

What's not to love about our *new* cabin? It is perfect for 2 guests wanting to stay near Downtown, but with access to the rest of the city. It has all the amenities of home, including a full kitchen, bathroom, and complimentary wine and chocolates!
Our Cabin On the Crest is great for guests who want to enjoy Downtown as much as they want to explore the rest of our city. This is a quaint studio apartment fully furnished located near downtown (1 mile/1.6 km) Lafayette, LA. However, it is also positioned no more than 15 minutes away from any destination in Lafayette, our Cabin On the Crest listing is as close to central Lafayette as one can get. As it's in the process of being built currently, the guests who stay here will have the opportunity to help us improve and stamp their approval on our newest property! Our studio has one Queen size bed, a bathroom, a full kitchen, AC wall unit, and free parking. Outside, is an awesome covered patio for guests to enjoy the breeze and picnic or just relax! We also provide complimentary wine and chocolate. Our Cabin On the Crest is on a shared property with our Cajun Hostel On the Crest Home that sleeps 12 so big groups are welcome to book both homes!
The neighborhood is very quiet, however, downtown Lafayette has many restaurants (Japanese sushi, French, Lebanese, Mexican, Burgers), music venues, night clubs, and bars and is only 10 blocks (approx 1 mile/1.6 km) or a 15 minute walk away. The house is located 3.4 miles (5.5 km) from the Lafayette airport and 1 mile away from the Amtrak Train Station and Greyhound Bus Station which are both Downtown.
  • Good place to stay when passing through. Cute and convenient location

  • I want to start by saying that Cajun Hostel was an amazing host. Prior to my stay I had many questions and they were extremely helpful, courtesy, and kind. They always replied in timely matter. I loved staying at the cabin and I believe I was the first to stay there since they finished the place. It was so cute and perfect. Very cozy and perfect for a mini vacation. They had good parking. Suitable space for luggage and lounging around. The kitchen was spacious and just what I needed. The place was clean and I was very comfortable throughout my stay. I had no complaints at all and will definitely stay here again. My only suggestion would be a dish rack to dry dishes. Other than that I am very happy with my stay and would recommend it to a friend or a traveler. There was wine and chocolate, which was a awesome gesture. I did not part take in it because I don’t drink but nonetheless this airbnb host goes above and beyond to accommodate.

  • Absolutely wonderful time here. Had everything you needed, was just a short drive away from some fantastic restaurants. A/C was also super helpful! Only slight issue was the internet which tended to be a bit slow. Had a fantastic time!

  • My parents needed a place for the night since the inclement weather froze their water pipes. I wanted them to be as comfortable as possible, and I could not have asked for more. The host was out of the country and STILL was available to help me with any issue I had. Both my parents were thrilled to be so cozy and comfortable, and at such an affordable rate! We will definitely be back!

  • We arrived and the place had not been cleaned, HOWEVER (!!!), when I called the provided number, the people were so friendly, helpful, and completely apologetic. They came over immediately and cleaned everything thoroughly!!! We were in the place in less than an hour. In addition to this, the people provided us with complimentary wine, beer, water, and chocolates. It was divine! The place is perfect for two and we loved our time there. The neighborhood was lovely and I enjoyed running in the area in the morning. I would do this again in a heartbeat!!

  • Very nice place... exactly as described and felt safe!!! Perfect for short or long term stay!!

    Debra2017-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Bed is super super comfy!! The rest of the place was okay. It's obvious a smoker used to live there and they covered up the smell with some awful air freshener which made my eyes itch. If you aren't picky about those kinds of things then you'll probably enjoy this place. Still better than staying in a crappy hotel. I communicated mostly with Alex. He was nice, communicative, and flexible with our check out time.
