“The Columbia Museum of Art is a modern art museum and a social hub of the city. I enjoy to take a walk to the museum and seating outside to have a cup of coffee. The museum also has monthly visiting events with block parties, concerts, lectures, art classes and many kid’s programs. ”

Museum
“The South Carolina State Museum has four floors of permanent and changing exhibits, a digital dome planetarium (opened in 2014), 4D interactive theater and an observatory (both opened in 2014). The State Museum, is located along the banks of the Congaree River in downtown Columbia, South Carolina. It is the largest museum in the state, and is a Smithsonian Affiliate and part of the American Alliance of Museums. Positioned on an old shipping canal (Columbia Canal) that dates back to pre-Civil War times, the museum is widely recognized[citation needed] as a resource for South Carolina history and lifestyle. The museum opened on October 29, 1988 and is housed in what it calls its largest artifact, the former Columbia Mills Building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.[1][2][3] When the mill opened in 1894, manufacturing cotton duck cloth (a canvas-like material), it was the first totally electric textile mill in the world. It was also the first major industrial installation for the General Electric corporation. On certain levels of the museum, the original flooring has been kept intact, distinguishable by hundreds of textile brads and rings (that carried the threads during the spinning process) that became embedded in the floor while it was still being used as a mill. The South Carolina Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum is located within the Columbia Mills Building, and is the oldest museum exhibit in Columbia.”

“Every Saturday morning downtown Main Street comes alive with the hustle and bustle of local artisans, businesses and theatrics at the Soda City Market. Typically about 3+ blocks long, this market has exploded in popularity and is a great spot to try every type of cuisine imaginable and to get some gift shopping in during your stay. Did we mention people watching? This is the spot to be for cute puppy watching as well as to listen and watch live street performances.”

“Mr. Friendly’s calls itself “a new Southern café,” so naturally it serves New Southern Cuisine. What that really means is you of course find chicken and grits and fried green tomatoes on the menu, but the chef also offers his delightful daily special; you will adore his take on Southern Cuisine with dishes like Sesame Seared Yellowfin Tuna with salsa made of granny smith apples and ginger, glazed with yuzu-sweet chile, and served with wasabi-spiced mashed potatoes and sautéed veggies.”

“We mentioned this place in the restaurant section, but we'd be remiss if we didn't highlight their amazing desserts. Only problem is you can't go their after supper. You must plan ahead and grab that cake before 2pm and stick it in the fridge for later!”
