“A must for the doggos!!! Stay to the right as you walk toward the levy to find the loop trail that will take you to the rivers edge. From there follow the river to the beach and enjoy the stunning views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Thanks to the Elwha dam removal upstream, this beach changes constantly as sediment from the mountains reforms the sand-spit protecting the river mouth. Something new every visit!”

“Jim and I enjoy this road for the adventure and sheer beauty of the drive, and that it ends at a trail head with several different hiking options. The road had been closed for several years due to sections of the road being washed away and once again leads into the Elwha Valley. Whiskey Bend road, is a one and a half lane dirt and gravel driving challenge. The drive itself is part of the adventure and easily done if you pay attention to the road, keep an eye open for spots to pull over before passing cars, and be friendly to other drivers. This 4 mile stretch of road follows the river bed climbing through verdant rain forest ending at a trail head with several fantastic hiking options. ”

“ Glines Canyon Dam Overlook is in the Elwha Valley area of Olympic National Park. The viewing deck allows you to get a look at restoration of the recently undammed Elwha River and learn about the area’s history. Undamming the Elwha River is the largest dam removal in the world. The drive is beautiful following Olympic Hot Springs road and Whiskey Bend road. If you continue further on Whiskey Bend road take note that the road significantly narrows.
