  • As always, the place was fantastic and so was the host! We have now come here so many times that my 4 year old son thinks it's actually our family's up-north cabin! Our favorite part of the cabin is the bright kitchen and the cozy basement tv room to relax in when it rains. Don't miss the Empire Bluff Trail, a stroll to Grocer's Daughter Chocolates, and a trip to Empire beach. All within walking distance. :)

  • We had such a wonderful time staying at the lucky pig! The house is as pictured with extra room in the basement. So quaint and very clean! The extra amenities were very nice! Fully stocked kitchen, washer and dryer, grill, campfire and extra linens and towels. Location was convenient. Really enjoyed the beach in town. Todd was quick to respond when we had questions. Only advice I have is to bring a baby gate if you are traveling with kids under 2. We highly recommend staying here!

  • The " Lucky Pig" is a charming , well appointed and sparkling clean cottage. Central to the many activities and charming towns of the area, the location is excellent. Todd met us at the appointed time and was accessible and easy to communicate with. We enjoyed our stay. Keep in mind for cool season visitors - the cottage has radiant heat and when the temperature drops suddenly as it did during our stay, you cannot simply adjust the thermostat. We were told it takes two days for radiant heat to warm to new temp. Space heaters were provided but even so the interior temp was a crisp 64* so bring warm sweaters as Mother Nature can be unpredictable in Northern Michigan!

    Naomi2016-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Todd's cottage was excellent in all regards. The house is even more charming than the pictures show (hard to believe!), spotlessly clean, and extremely well-equipped. Todd met us and showed us around when we arrived and checked in later to make sure we had everything we needed. The space is bright and cheerful, with lots of natural light. We stayed with our infant son, and loved being able to go for walks right out the door, around the neighborhood and down to the village and the shore (it's a little less than a mile to walk down to the town beach). Todd was a fantastic host, and The Flying Pig is a lovely, delightful place to stay in the heart of the Sleeping Bear Dunes.

    Heather2016-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I had an awesome stay at Todd's home in Empire! The house was cozy and comfortable despite the cool weather during our visit this January. The in-floor radiant heat felt great on our feet. The house has a number of cool architectural features that somehow made it feel rustic and contemporary at the same time. In addition to having one of the best beaches in the country, Empire is a great launchpad to the rest of the of NW Michigan. We made several easy day-trips to Leland, Traverse City, Glen Arbor, etc. We plan to stay here again the next time we visit, which couldn't be soon enough.

  • Our favorite place in our favorite city. Looking forward to coming back again next year.

  • Adorable little house, we were able to walk into town, the beach with no problems. Host was super helpful and we would definitely go back there.

    Julie2017-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Cabin is great, nice location, perfect getaway. Todd was very accommodating, we arrived after midnight from Chicago and he was still up to greet us and give us the lay of the land. Thanks for a great weekend.

The Cottonwood Carriage House is located in the Heart of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore voted most Beautiful Place in America. The Carriage House is within walking distance to the Empire Beach, shopping and places to eat. Nearby are hiking trails, the Sleeping Bear Heritage bike trail, beaches and rivers for kayaking/canoeing, SUP or tubing down at your leisure. Also within a short distance wineries, golfing, shopping and local brew pubs. There is something for everyone.
  • Such a great little place! The carriage house was clean, quaint, and so close to downtown Empire! We parked our car and walked/biked to almost everywhere we needed to go. Holly was a great host and I would recommend her place to anyone who is looking for a relaxing stay in Northern Michigan!

    Jody2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • The carriage house is a nice, quiet, cozy home just up the driveway from the main bed and breakfast. It is located right in Empire and provides easy access to the M-72 and M-22 intersection. From the cabin, it is an easy 10-15 minutes walk to the Empire public beach. It is also very close to the current (as of 2017) southern terminus of the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail. For anyone looking to do the famous bike path, this is a great starting point.

This two-story house is colorful and decorated with local art and interesting pieces. Guests love the large yard, decks, and being so close to a lovely beach in a small, friendly village surrounded by natural beauty and hiking and biking trails.
The house is ideal for families, with two good-sized living areas, four bedrooms, two baths, and a large kitchen/dining area. Outside is a spacious back yard with fire pit, two picnic tables, lots of adirondack chairs, a deck, and a grill. Basic necessities are supplied, including linens, towels, paper goods, soap, and laundry detergent.
The house is located right on Front Street, so guests enjoy sitting on the porch and watching the world go by--horseback riders, groups of cyclists, tourists leisurely walking down the main street of our small village. Privacy is available too--on the back deck or the spacious back yard ringed with trees. More active pursuits are within blocks: a nice hike up the village overlook, swimming and fishing in the inland lake, and of course all kinds of water activities on Lake Michigan at Empire Beach. Right on Front Street guests enjoy Tiffany's, an ice cream, coffee, and sandwich shop (excellent sandwiches) and Joe's Friendly Tavern (burgers and great whitefish). Two other cafes offer good pizza and fresh home made soups, among other items.

  • PERFECT!!!!

    Micheal2017-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Mariana got in touch with us several times before we arrived, making sure we knew about the house rules, and also telling us some really interesting things about Empire. The location is exactly what we wanted: walking distance to the fabulous beach, grocery store, and the tavern too! We met the handyman upon arrival, and he was very welcoming. The house is spacious...we are a family of six and had plenty of room to spread out and do different activities. The kids were very happy with the wifi speed, in case anyone needs wifi to work or to research Empire and Leelanau county, the M22 territory, and beyond. The kitchen is well-equipped and has very new appliances. We never had a reason to get in touch with Mariana, the handyman, or the housekeeper while we were there, but were provided with contact information for all of them. We had a great time! We would love to return sometime soon. Thank you Mariana!

    Janette2017-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The place is amazing. It felt like staying in a summer house of my own.

    Brian2016-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Mariana was very responsive to communication throughout our stay. Her house is in a very small quaint town close to many wonderful things to do and see (Sleeping Bear Dunes and the many beaches of Northern Michigan along Lake Michigan). It was a convenient walk to the grocery, gas station, and dining. My family of 4 had more than enough room to spread out in the comfy bedrooms. The house could easily fit a few more guests. I especially enjoyed the antique, but functional decor around the house, while at the same time, the beds, sofas, and tables were all newer and in great shape. The interior was fresh and immaculate and very cheerily decorated. Mariana provided all the necessities for a comfortable stay. We felt very welcomed. We only stayed for a short 2 1/2 days, but felt very rejuvenated from our trip.

    Christine2016-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • This place was everything I could have hoped for and more. The exterior is cute and cheery, and inside it's stocked with everything we needed for our weekend, including glasses, plates, cookware, and even board games. It was spotlessly clean, comfortable, and I particularly enjoyed roaming around and checking out all of the amazing books Mariana has for guests to read. The bonfire pit was the perfect thing to cap off to two amazing days. My only regret was that we had to leave so soon!

    Rachel2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • This was the vacation of a lifetime for my family. We have 7 kids and my parents also stayed with us. With the couches there was plenty of room for all. It is the perfect walk to the beach (we went every day) and also walking distance from the Catholic Church and Empire Bluffs Trail (note: a strenuous walk between town and the trailhead!) The town of Empire could not be more quaint and this house offered us EVERYTHING we could have hoped for AND MORE! There were ample games, puzzles and books for kids and adults. There is an awesome backyard fire pit and grill available. Though cell service was spotty because the host provides wifi we had no issues being "plugged in" and bc there was cable we got to see plenty of the 2016 Rio Olympics after being out and about at the beach or Sleeping Bear Dunes all day. I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE HIGHLY ENOUGH! The front porch is relaxing and I enjoyed my coffee out there every morning (even when it rained). We had plenty of towels and kitchen supplies and dishes and with a washer and dryer I went home with clean laundry! (A huge plus for the mom of many!) Every room is warm and inviting, there are tons of fans (and one AC unit) to keep things cool in the summer. We hosted two sets of visitors and everyone commented what a great place it was! She was also very responsive when I sent emails and very kind and understanding when we had a small mishap with a lamp/side table. IT WAS A PERFECT VACATION THAT MY FAMILY WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER AND I AM SO GRATEFUL. I only wish I had the money to make a weeklong stay an annual visit (my own issue not the pricing). It is truly a perfect place, perfect location - especially for a large family or group. There is so much to do and see in northern Michigan and this is near to all (TC, Frankfort, Glen Arbor, Leelenau) but Empire has a totally different vibe from those more "touristy" places. It's low key and slow and easy but within easy driving distance if you crave a good brew pub or winery or boutique shopping experience. ***5000 STAR RATING!!!***

Private enclosed garden area for morning coffee, or a good book.
We are situated on a peninsula, with a lake on one side and creek on the other. Quiet neighborhood.

  • This little cottage is the perfect place to stay especially for people heading to Sleeping Bear Dunes and other surrounding outdoor adventures. The place was clean and well appointed. Plan to use the grill mostly as the kitchen is a little small, but the yard is so nice for enjoyment! Would definitely recommend this place to friends.

  • Our family enjoyed our stay at Chris and Taylor's farm house. The fall goodies of cider, donuts, and cookies left by Chris were much appreciated to get us in the fall mood. The house was as described, situated just outside of Empire. A very very short drive to the city, the trails and all the sand one can handle. Communication upon arrival was great, with a ping upon our arrival just to confirm everything was to our liking. House was neat and linens were comfortable and fresh.

    Matthew2015-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • We really loved our stay at the charming farmhouse. The place was just what I expected, clean and the queen bed was really comfortable. Very close to the places we most wanted to go, like the beaches, and glen arbor. It was also very quiet, only one neighbor across the road so got to appreciate the sounds of nature. Starry skies too! Really nice. Host's left us a bottle of wine and cookies and some local coffee which was appreciated.

    Laurie2015-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Our host provided excellent communication prior to our stay and up to the moment of our arrival at this delightful destination. All of our needs were met with helpful courtesy and within a timely fashion. The cottage had everything necessary for convenience, comfort and relaxation, and we felt completely at home in the quaint rural atmosphere. Close to town, the beach and activities, we planned each day's outings with our morning coffee and returned to our comfy cabin each evening for dinner in the spectacular twilight glow and cool breezes. The mornings were equally lovely with light pouring in from the east. Our stay was rather unusual since a powerful "storm of the century" hit the area and wiped out electric service for much of the week, but we were in good hands as our host met our every need with cheerful, genuine hospitality. Water was hauled, candles, lanterns and cooler provided, and our thoughtful host even provided a french press for making coffee! The gas BBQ grill was up to the task for boiling water for bathing as well as cooking. We received regular updates on the utility progress, but the devastation to the north made the task extremely difficult for utility workers. Power was finally restored and we enjoyed our last two evenings with hot showers and the comforts of electricity! We enjoyed quiet candlelit suppers even when the power was back! The cottage was the perfect size with lots of windows for cross ventilation and space for relaxing. There is a rustic quality to the place that is immediately endearing, and our host added special amenities like local wine and coffee and local magazines to help us plan excursions. We loved the nearby hiking and mountain biking, and there is no end to finding perfect beaches. There is so much to do in the area that we will certainly have to come back for more fun, with or without electricity! We could not have enjoyed ourselves more. It was a perfect getaway! Bravo to our super host!

    Angela2015-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay!!! Home was clean, quaint and so quiet at night! Owner was wonderful and even checked in on us when a crazy driver was going up and down the always quiet street, we think it was just a tourist. We appreciated the coffee, wine, oj, muffins and bananas to get us started. Master bedroom was great! Kids bedroom was tight, but worked for our small family. Great location, 10 minutes to Empire beach and Sleeping bear dunes. Short drive to other Leelenau towns and sights. Home has nice outdoor space with hammock, table and fire pit. Great place, we recommend to you!

Awesome 3 bdr. cottage on Little Glen Lake in Leelanau County, Michigan. ON THE WATER! Create amazing summer vacation memories with your family. EIGHTY feet of private frontage on BEAUTIFUL BLUE Glen Lake. Near the towns of Glen Arbor & Empire and adjacent to Sleeping Bear Dunes.
This cottage has been my happy place since I bought it in 2006. Perfect for your family's summer vacation and a great value when compared to other Glen Lake properties.
Completely private & you'll enjoy the quiet - my property is 600 feet deep!
  • David was very communicative and the cabin was exactly as described. The only difference is that you kind of have to see the beach in person to appreciate it. My friends and I had a great time here!

  • We had a wonderful week right on beautiful Little Glen Lake in David's quaint cottage! The waterfront was spectacular and perfect for day time swimming and making S'mores around the fire pit at night. We also took advantage of the bikes, kayak and hiking trails for many outdoor adventures. The cottage was well equipped and we cooked many of our meals right there. With three bedrooms, it is a great place for a family or a group of friends!

  • Perfectly scenic setting on Little Glen Lake, with super view of Sleeping Bear Dune Climb, fire pit, and soft sand in warm water (on our own little beach!). Heritage Trail bike path was close by, for ride to Dune Climb, Glen Arbor or just pleasure. As well, the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive was only minutes away, and made for a super place to witness the sun setting over Lake Michigan. Provided bikes and kayak were super amenities. The home itself is classic old-school, cozy cabin on the lake. Our family of four was comfortable and wanted for nothing. Thank you Dave, for sharing your slice of heaven.

  • The listing was completely accurate and in fact the property and amenities were even better than shown and described David was fantastic in providing information on the property and area. The lake and beach area is fantastic and in fact the sandy beach area extends hundreds of feet out and the wateris only waist high. Nightly fires in the fire pit was a huge highlight with David providing a huge wood pile to draw on. Beautiful area and property and I would recommend highly. On a scale of 10. Thus place is a 10. Thanks David for sharing your little but of heaven

Beautiful, cozy cabin, calm and relaxing neighborhood and on top of it all, an AMAZING host. David was very caring about our trip which is very appreciated. That being said David's cabin is literally a must place to stay at, we are very confident to recommend it.

  • Joe's place was wonderful. Booking and check-in were a breeze and Joe was very responsive. The house was beautiful and the views were stunning. We are already talking about when we can visit again!

    Elizabeth2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Joe's cottage is exactly as presented - a wonderful, clean, newly-remodeled lakeside cottage with giant windows (to appreciate the view) just steps from Little Glen Lake. My husband and I enjoyed sunrise coffee while we sat on the deck and watched the changing colors over Alligator Hill. We had two great evening campfires - appreciated the firewood already waiting by the fire pit - make sure you bring some newspaper to get it started! We did not use the kayaks or canoe - a bit too chilly this time of year to get wet - but they looked in good shape and we were a little sorry to have missed this. One thing that is VERY important to me is quiet. When I'm on vacation, I don't want to listen to other people's noise. Joe and I had this conversation ahead of time, and he was 100% correct... this is a very quiet location. We heard the lake, the birds (gulls and kingfishers), an occasional critter, and a really good thunderstorm on Saturday night! The neighbors are welcoming local folks - we met them as well. Nice people. Little Glen Lake is very shallow - maybe just a few inches for many yards from shore - it's perfect for families with young children. In fact, three decades ago, it's where we first came on 'Up North' vacations with our own kids. I would highly recommend Joe's cottage for a relaxing quiet holiday, any season. It's a special place.

  • Wonderful cottage in an amazing location; it's very clear that Joe and his family love and take care of the place! Every interaction with the host went smoothly, and the whole experience was great. Definitely planning a summer trip already!!!

  • Perfect location if you are looking for a Sleeping Bear Dunes vacation. The house had everything we needed.

  • Beautiful home in a gorgeous setting. We hiked the dune climb, biked around Glen Lake, kayaked the Crystal River and really enjoyed our time! Comfy beds, lots of windows, beautiful sunsets and sunrises! Highly recommend.

  • We loved staying at the cottage. Glen lake has been a place we've visited for years. Breath taking views and gorgeous water. This was one of the most renovated places we've stayed in. Perfect for a young family with shallow water. Decorated really cute inside and the beds were super comfortable!

  • This was such a nice place. Clean, cozy and right on the lake. Great location for all sorts of local attractions including the dunes and local hikes. Joe was quick to respond and gave great tips on things to do with young children. Overall great stay.

Quiet and spacious room that best sleeps 2. A platform bed can accommodate a child and we have a packnplay available. Newer queen size bed with high thread count cotton and down bedding. Your own bathroom is 10 steps away, through shared space. We have a homemade, light-filled, round house on 40 wooded acres with a large garden. Note: there are no locks on the bedroom or bathroom doors.
Quiet, great hiking and jogging, No traffic noise. Build a bonfire if conditions permit. Watch the sky and learn about the constellation from your astronomer host. Simple but comfortable room in light-filled house. Our home is best for two people or a couple with a child. We have toys for very young children, being grandparents of three little ones.
Its quiet. You cannot see neighbors except the (website hidden) renters July/August in our next door rental house. We have no animals on premises but might have an occasional visit by the 1/4 mile away neighbor's very friendly old dogs. We will not be able to accommodate your pets.

    Martina2017-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • The house was lovely and in a wonderfully secluded part of the woods just a short trip away from a few small towns. Delicious well water and solar panels at the home as well. Mimi and Norm were open and conversational while also giving us plenty of space to ourselves as guests.

    patrick2016-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Mimi & Norm are the most amazing hosts I've ever stayed with. The previous reviews that said pictures do not do the place justice are 100% correct. Their property is a perfect northern Michigan getaway and I am so appreciative of their hospitality. The room is decently sized and the firm mattress was very comfortable. Their location is perfectly located for day trips to Traverse City, Glen Arbor, Empire or Sleeping Bear. I would definitely stay with them again!

    Corey2015-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great experience staying with Mimi and Norm. Their home is extremely comfortable and cozy, and the room is very clean and nice. The location is great, and we were very close to great hiking. Mimi and Norm are both generous, friendly people, and definitely made us feel at home.

    Grant2016-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay at Mimi and Norm's place! Our trip to Empire was a last-minute, much-needed respite from a rough landing... I'd just returned to the U.S. from the Netherlands 10 days earlier and was just not ready to be here and thought a trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore would be just the thing to get me back on track. My kids and I discovered this area about six years ago and fell in love with it, and as of a few days ago it's even more special because we now know Mimi and Norm! Norm and Mimi are brilliantly talented, generous, salt of the earth people who live their values and truly understand what's important in life and what's not. They are rare birds indeed. I stayed in a clean and cozy room in their home and my 17- year old daughter and her best friend stayed in the Trumpet House. Our own lovely bathroom was located in the main house. Their home is rich with art, books, and interesting objects everywhere you look and we were the grateful benefactors of, in Danish, 'house open' or in Spanish, mi casa su casa. Both phrases connote a strong sense of "our home is your home" and that's exactly how we felt. Mimi opened the kitchen to us so we could cook our own meals and cleared a space in the frig for our food. Not only did we feel very welcomed, Mimi and Norm project a wonderful willingness and desire to engage with their visitors. You're not just an anonymous airbnb guest, you're a person with a story and they're interested in your story! I've read some of the reviews about the bedroom door not locking etc, and all I can say is if you're the kind of person that needs that to feel comfortable you should probably go to one of the run-of-the-mill motels in Traverse City or Glen Arbor because this is not that. What it is, however, is a beautiful, and authentic travel experience warmly generated by two deeply journeyed people who generously open their home(s) to travelers near and far.

    Nanette2016-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Mimi and Norm were kind and considerate and gave *great* directions. Their home is eclectic and beautiful and my only regret is that we didn't get to spend more time there.

    Lannon2016-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • Mimi and Norm are very lovely and we truly enjoyed our stay in their beautiful home, which they built themselves! The location is beautiful and a short drive from Glen Harbor, Empire and Traverse City. Thank you for a great experience!.

    Roman2017-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • I'd rate this up at the top with the best Airbnbs I've stayed in. Mimi and Norm were very welcoming, and made sure all of our needs were met. The location was ideal for us, cozy and remote, and their home is beautiful and very comfortable.

Was nicely appointed/well decorated, has a full kitchen, outdoor patio, picnic table, storage shed, one bedroom-probably full size bed, couch and loveseat in living room, dining room table that folds out, cathdral ceilings with skylights, shower stall and normal bathroom. Location is great-across from Glen Lake, boat docks and bicycle trails readily available and within a few miles of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Dune Climbs, downtown Empire and a short drive to Glen Arbor. A little piece of Heaven.

Charming cottage with two bedrooms and two baths, bordered by Sleeping Bear Dunes National Seashore forest... Completely remodeled and newly furnished for 2017, this cottage has never before been available for rent. Cottage is across the street from the Glen Lake Narrows. Lake Michigan beaches and dunes lie two miles down the road, public access to Big and Little Glen Lakes is within walking distance, and some of the best road biking in the Midwest begins at the end of your driveway.
Walk your kayak to the Narrows bridge and hop in. Swim the sandy-bottomed Narrows in either lake. Begin your ride at the cottage and head to Glen Arbor village center where you can catch the Heritage Trail--or head northeast on MacFarlane for an immediately challenging ride past Inspiration Point and around Big Glen Lake to the Crystal River and the Heritage Trail. The cottage has been remodeled and newly furnished for the 2017 season. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a screened-in porch. Outside there's a fire pit, back deck and front patio. Rents Saturday to Saturday. Check in 4PM - check out 10 AM. House close to the Sleeping Bear dunes and Dune Climb with Big and Little Glen Lakes across the street. Boat rentals available in walking distance. Bring kayaks and walk to public access on the Narrows Bridge. Superb biking. Major hills surround the house, including on MacFarlane and a series of seven ascents on Benzonia, but equally possible to reach the Heritage Trail bike path stretching from Empire to Good Harbor Bay without a single significant climb by riding into Glen Arbor and catching the Heritage Trail there.
Wonderful for biking: begin at the cottage and go through the Narrows to Glen Arbor village where you can catch the Heritage Trail--or head northeast on MacFarlane for an immediately challenging ride up to Inspiration Point and around Big Glen Lake to the Crystal River and the Heritage Trail.
  • This was our first trip to Michigan, and while we enjoyed biking at Mackinac Island, kayaking the Lower Platte river, picking raspberries, indulging in delicious cupcakes and donuts from the next-door bakery, hiking the Sleeping Bear Point Trail and climbing endless dunes, we always enjoyed coming home to Bear Haven Cottage. The cottage is comfortable, clean and convenient to lots of activities. It is also a three-minute walk to Glen Lake--think Caribbean colors and amazing sunsets. Fantastic stay!

    Fronda2017-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Bear Haven Cottage was a wonderful home to stay while we vacationed around Glen Arbor. The views of the lakes from the home as well as the proximity to beautiful morning walks along the Narrows were a family favorite. The home itself is impressively decorated and clean. It was supplied with all of the amenities that our family needed for the week. The new bakery right next door was an added bonus to our morning routines of having fresh, out of the oven donuts and muffins! We highly recommend and will be back again soon.

  • This cottage is beautiful! So clean and freshly renovated. My family loved it and we plan to return next year. Cheryl is just the sweetest person and easy to communicate with. She makes herself available to you for anything you need. She pays attention to every little detail from a well stocked kitchen, to beautiful interior decorating. And a delicious loaf of pumpkin bread was awaiting for our arrival! Thanks Cheryl for making our stay so comfortable! ️️️️️

This Amish built log cabin has been built to offer a more natural and organic experience for you to enjoy. The log cabin is open, airy, and artistic with awesome views. Located on a 20 acre organic farm. Located 3 miles from one of the most beautiful places, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. There are nearby family-friendly activities, beaches, excellent restaurants, and cool taverns. Located near excellent biking trails, rivers, and lakes for swimming, canoeing, and kayaking.
I have a lovely bathroom and I want to remind everyone that I currently only have a bathtub and not an indoor shower. Keith and I just added an on demand water heater shower that provides a really awesome hot water shower and is it heated with propane. The on demand water heater is located within an enclosed structure outside by the hoop house. Sometimes in higher winds the pilot light gets blown out but it is easy to re-ignite with a simple button. Information will be available in the house manual. The sun heated solar water heater is also available. This requires the sun to heat the water up on the inside. This is offered as an experience to enjoy, not as an alternative to an actual shower. I have a soapstone wood stove located inside the log cabin, if you care to have an evening fire. Some wood is available next to the stove. I also have an outside fire pit, if you would like to have an outside fire. Firewood is available on the north side of the house. If there is no wood available there, firewood is available for a small fee in the area. I have 2 bedrooms. The main floor bedroom has 1 queen size bed. The other bedroom is located in the loft and has 1 queen futon. The stairs that are pictured are steeper than typical stairs. We are taking down our tipi skin sometime in late August. So the tipi skin may or may not be on but the poles will be there. If the tipi skin is still on please enjoy going inside. It is rustic (natural) inside but very beautiful. No fires allowed inside the tipi. The evening skies here are amazingly wide, dark and open that allows you to view brilliant stars in the evening. The beautiful and artsy hoop house will offer you organic vegetables such as delicious kale, onions, chives, flowers, and herbs. Help yourself to any of the produce. Since the farm has a lot of space, I may be living elsewhere on the land during your stay.
The neighborhood is agricultural with a new hops farm, a permaculture farm and a local food processing project. Grocers Daughter ( amazing homemade chocolate) is located 6 miles away in Empire, MI. Located about 30 minutes from Traverse City, MI. Some really good restaurants in Empire and Glen Arbor. Located close to Canoe Liveries so you can enjoy kayaking or canoeing on some of the beautiful rivers. Frankfort, MI about 16 miles away.
  • This is a wonderful place off the beaten path and very close to Sleeping Bear Dunes. Those looking for 5-star luxury should look elsewhere, but those looking for a rustic, secluded get-away near Lake Michigan need look no further. Be ready for an indoor bath or an outdoor shower and close quarters for 4-5 people. We especially enjoyed the beautiful environment around the cabin/cottage, the full kitchen, and the fire pit. Everything was clean and very welcoming. We hope to come back next summer!

    Lynn2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Host left us gorgeous roses and a well-stocked kitchen. We especially enjoyed fresh greens from the garden, access to Esche beach, Otter Creek, hikes, and truly magical star-gazing. (Caught the Perseid meteor shower our last night.) Spent a pleasant day checking out Traverse City, a couple wineries and Van's Beach in Leland. Comfy space. Peaceful beyond description. Host was 100% helpful.

  • Kari was very helpful through the process of booking her place and in communicating and walking us through how to get there/get in. The house is absolutely beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. She let us pick some veggies from the garden and we had a fire outside and enjoyed the outdoors. I would definitely love to come back and spend some more time there The only thing I would recommend is to buy groceries before getting there since the stores in Empire and such are very touristy and pricy. Her flowers were also gorgeous btw.

    Amanda2017-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Had a wonderful stay at Kari's place! The cabin was very peaceful and private yet a short drive to local attractions. The cabin was clean and comfortable... exactly as described. The wifi works well also. I highly recommend Kari's place and would definitely return!

  • We stayed for only two nights and wish we had more days to enjoy the house and the area. The house is very clean and has everything you need to relax with comfort.

  • I highly recommend this wood cabin and farm setting to those looking for a quiet and relaxing time in the Sleeping Bear Dunes area. It is a beautiful property and surrounding forests, farms, and lakes. The Amish-built wooden house is cozy and has a warm atmosphere. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to cook a good meal. In addition to the cozy interior, we enjoyed spending time reading on the porch, playing games on a table outside, exploring an old barn on the lot, and eating fresh arugula from the garden in the hoop house. Communication with Kari was very smooth.

  • Unfortunately this Airbnb was not what we expected. We found the advertising to be misleading. The biggest issue was that the listing indicated that there were 3 beds - 2 doubles and a queen. We got there to find a double and a futon made up as a bed ... for our family of 4 (2 parents, a 6 foot tall 15 yo son, and pretty tall 11 yo daughter). While our son accommodatingly slept on the sofa this wasn't what we expected and made our trip less enjoyable. The stairs to the loft where the futon is located are very steep and I wouldn't want a child up there if they were young. Moreover, after sleeping on the futon in the loft for a few nights it isn't the most comfortable if you are an adult. Also, while the listing indicated there was a solar shower we expected that this would be in addition to an indoor shower. We have rented many homes near beaches, lakes, and oceans and outdoor showers are the norm so as to get off the sand and not bring it inside. Nope - the solar shower was the only shower ... there was only a bathtub. I suppose a solar shower might work okay on hot sunny days but not so great on the rainy morning we had and not wonderfully when we all wanted to shower first thing in the morning or after a day at the lake. So we all used the bath - including the 6 foot 15 year old who hasn't bathed in a tub since he was 5 and my 6 foot 2 inch husband. The house also smells very strongly of lavender - this happens to be a smell I like but isn't a smell everyone is fond of (it aggravated my son's allergies). The house was clean, communication was good, check in and check out was easy, and there were no other problems. This may be an ideal spot for a couple looking for a quiet getaway in a log cabin. who is willing to take a bath, and loves lavender ... not a good family spot in my opinion.

    Julie2017-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • We were looking for an experience, not simply a place to stay and this cabin was perfect. The location is secluded but it's a quick 10 min from Sleeping Bear Dunes and beaches. The home is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. But the focus is a return to nature, to simplicity, and that's what makes it special. The flowers and fields are breathtaking. No TV. The outdoor shower (hot) was a huge hit. My son and I couldn't have wanted anything more. We played uno to gorgeous sunrises and sunsets while our towels dried on the line. Great for a couple or a couple with kids who can snuggle together and handle the loft (the space is easy, big, but the stairs are not for toddlers). We saw many birds, bees, a fox or two. Pure Michigan!

Located on a 2 Acre, 5 unit area with shared 250' Little Glen Frontage, this cottage has 2 bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a nice sized living area with beautiful views and hide-a-bed couch and a comfortable sized bathroom with shower. This cottage also includes a flat screen TV, Cable TV and Wireless Internet. The nice sized porch can fit the entire family with its own fire pit and direct boating access into the lake. It's moments away from Glen Arbor, Sleeping Bear Dunes & much, much more.
It is a very quaint 600 sq ft cottage with 2 private bedrooms, a living room with gorgeous views and a full size kitchen and bath. It is recently remodeled and has exposed washed out wood beams and has the perfect lake cottage feel. Everything you need is provided from sheets, towels, kitchen ware and bath supplies. You also have a large porch to enjoy dinners outside with a private fire pit for toasting as many marshmallows as you can!
Our cottage in 1 of 5 cottages on a 2 Acre Plot of Land. Each Cottage has their own lake access, their own fire pit and direct access to the lake for a Canoe, Row Boat or a small water craft. We will also have a dock installed to tie up a larger watercraft like a Pontoon or a Ski Boat if you choose to rent one or bring one. Keep in mind, the area right outside the cabin in the Lake is for swimming, so you have to have all watercraft turned off in any swimming areas.
  • Everything about our stay was fantastic - we had such an amazing experience at Craig's place from the moment we arrived to the cottage. There should be no second guessing about this place, the description says it all - perfect up north experience is the absolute truth. The cottage was super clean the minute we walked in! Fresh linens, towels, all clean dishes, everything very neat. The cottage has a very small, cozy feel and accommodated all of my guests very well. We spent most of our days boating on Big Glen Lake. If you are able to, bring your boat up. Big Glen Lake might get confused for Carribean water it is seriously that beautiful! All of the neighbors were very nice and friendly. We will definitely be booking with Craig again.

    Alex2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • This little place is perfection located at the lake's edge... (If you don't know Little Glen Lake, it is SUPER shallow, SUPER clear and sandy - it's perfect!) The cottage is a GREAT value for the money; exactly as described (probably a little better - the photos don't do it justice and many things were upgraded a bit since they were taken; new linens, new furniture pieces, new TV with DVD player, movies, games, puzzles, row boat, canoe, hammock, brand new charcoal grill and tools as well as plenty of outside seating). The proximity to town was very good and it was also very close to Pyramid Point, Alligator Hill, Glen Haven, Dunes and Lake MI and a short drive to Fish Town and Traverse. Also, the cottage has PERFECT sunset views and the host, Craig seemed to really care that we enjoyed our vacation and was extremely communicative as well. I almost hate leaving this review as I'm afraid it's going to be rented non-stop before we are ready to book again.

    Jennifer2017-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • This place was absolutely perfect. Spotless, cozy and decked with all the little things that make traveling simpler. The kitchen was stocked and had everything needed to prepare meals, the bed was comfortable, plenty of spare blankets, a nice tv and WiFi, and a couple cords of dry firewood. Craig really went out of his way to be accommodating and his sight seeing/food recommendations were spot on. The lake views were spectacular and the people in the area extremely friendly. I can honestly say this was the most well outfitted Airbnb I’ve seen yet!

    Chris2017-10-29T00:00:00Z

    Dawn2017-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This lake is one of the most beatiful I have ever seen! There is so much to do in the area-hiking,dunes,water sports, biking. Even though we came late in the year and did not have a chance to get on the lake we were still overwhelmed at the beauty of the area and lake! We will definitely be back and take advantage of the lake this time! Craig is the best host and has a wonderful clean cottage right on the lake.

Timber Trail is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home with a prime location on Little Glen Lake. Look across the lake at the Sleeping Bear Dunes or across the road at Alligator Hill hiking trail. House has a nice patio overlooking the lake, dock with row boat and has WiFi. Many guests have been renting for 15+ years. Glen Arbor is just minutes away.
  • Tammy's cottage on Little Glen Lake was a pleasure to rent. The dock goes into Little Glen Lake, which due to its shallow waters, has a beautiful blue-green color. In addition, from the dock, you can see the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which is less than a 10-minute drive to the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive of the park. The scenery is gorgeous, and the pictures online do not do it justice. The rental is also close to Glen Arbor (5 minutes), Traverse City (35 minutes), and the wineries in Suttons Bay (45 minutes), such as Mawby. Tammy was very responsive as a host, and she respected our privacy in her rental during the entire stay. If travelling to this area again, I would definitely stay again in this rental!

    Christopher2017-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Timber Trail! It was in a beautiful area close to great hiking trails, Lake Michigan, and the nice little town of Glen Arbor. This would be a great place to stay at any time of the year with people of all ages (we had a few children with us as well and they loved it too). The house was cozy and accommodating, not too fancy and easy to relax in.

    Kathryn2017-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • the scenery was beautiful with easy access to the beach. Disappointed with cleanliness of outside chairs and table and inside fridge. Had two forks and two dirty plastic forks, had to go out and buy plastic silverware until we found box of new silverware. Master bath room door did not close, my husband was able to take the door off and fix it with different screws. He also was able to fix a knob on the stove with parts of old stove on the street. I realize rental properties cannot be perfectly clean but this was quite disappointing.

  • The area and this place is fabulous....Glen Arbor is just down the road and being right on Little Glen Lake is wonderful. The house feels as if it's in a time warp if you like that like of thing. Very 1950's cottage with knick knacks in the cabinet that look like they came from my grandmother's generation. But plenty of space inside and out to make a large or extended family comfortable.

  • Kristin's cottage was exactly as described and better than expected! She was there to greet us at the park office and checked in on us shortly after. The space was perfect for our weekend getaway. The full kitchen made it easy to prepare a few meals in the cottage. She has a keurig in the kitchen as well. • It was a very nice place. The cabin is relatively new and is contemporary in design. Very modern for a cabin in a northern campground. Everything that we needed was there. They even supplied a Keurig coffee maker with some Kcups. The bed was a queen size and was comfortable. There was only one thing that I found to be lacking and that was the WiFi. It was supplied for free as advertised but it was a pretty slow and spotty connection. Tested speeds averaged about 2 Mbit down and about 250 Kbit up. It was probably some type of satellite connection because on our last morning there it was rainy and cloudy and the connection was dropping constantly. It may not be important to most people but I do remote support for people and a solid connection is important to me. It was a great stay though and we would highly recommend it.

  • This is one of the rustic experiences that I ever had. You should feel it.

  • Kristin was very accommodating when I said we might be there a little earlier than check in time, it's in an RV park but we stayed in the cottage there.

  • Kristin communicated promptly and clearly. She was also willing to accommodate some inconvenient last minute changes to the reservation (i.e. arriving earlier than planned).

  • Staying at Kristin's cabin near Sleeping Bear Dunes was great! The space was cozy, clean, and near so many things we wanted to do/see — the dunes, Traverse City, Glen Arbor. I'd definitely stay there again.
