  • Great place - close to shops if you need to pick anything up on the way. Try and arrive in the daylight as it can be quite hard to find in the darkness. Perfect for a secluded getaway.

A warm and sunny single storey cottage with 2 bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen/lounge/diner and a shower room. We live adjacent to this cottage and personally ensure it is thoroughly cleaned for each guest. Quietly situated. Village & Pub 1/2 mile.
Sunrise Cottage, originally a stable, is now a bright and sunny comfortable, nicely furnished ground floor cottage with a double bedroom and a single bedroom, sleeping 3 + baby. The kitchen is well equipped with full size cooker, fridge and microwave, plenty of crockery, utensils and cooking pots & pans. The washing machine and tumble drier are in the shared laundry (no charge). Sunrise Cottage is ideal for the young, and the not so young, being all on one level and with a shower room. Parking for 1 car is right outside the door. We can supply a travel cot and a high chair if required - please request when booking. Sunrise Cottage is kept 'pet free'. Sunrise Cottage is quietly situated, but not isolated. Our own house is adjacent and there are also other holiday cottages on site.
We are right on the edge of the Forest of Dean. There is direct access from our grounds into the Forest which is 'free to roam'. The Forest is a beautiful, natural unspoilt area, and every season has its own beauty - carpets of bluebells in spring, sun shining through the trees in summer, spectacular autumn colours, haw frosts in winter. There are also many attractions within easy reach - castles, caves, craft centres, shopping centres, steam railway, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking etc as well as a TV & Film trail enabling you to find the spectacular backdrops used in many famous films such as StarWars, Merlin, Atlantis, Dr Who etc.
  • This place is wonderful, we're already planning a return visits. Lots to see and do nearby and to be able to walk straight into the forest from the cottage was great. The cottage is really well equipped and Elaine provided both a cot and a high chair, which help reduce our packing! The playground and the garden/paddock were thoroughly used by our son.

  • The cottage was really clean . Everything was there including towels , dish cloth and washing up liquid. Milk was left in the fridge which was really nice as we had forgotten ours. Great location for the Forest of Dean and a small drive to Symonds Yat. Wifi worked fine. Parking was available and Elaine was there to meet us on arrival. All in all a lovely stay .

  • Suzette's flat is beautifully decorated and well equipped. The bathroom is excellent and the bed is really comfortable. Unfortunately it is situated on quite a busy road and as we are light sleepers the traffic did wake us quite early in the mornings.

50€ Old Co Op House, Forest of Dean
    10 Bewertungen
The Whitehouse is an extended traditional stone-built forest cottage located in the Forest of Dean village of Pillowell overlooking the forest. Two minutes walk from the front door takes you to an extensive range of forest tracks. Beautiful setting at any time of year. The cottage has 5 bedrooms (one with en suite bathroom) and sleeps up to 10 comfortably. There is a large garden on 3 sides and a double garage with further off-street parking for 2 additional cars.
There is a huge living room/dining room with grand piano, TV, DVD, large oak dining table (seats 10-12) and a games room with a full-size table tennis table and good selection of board-games. The kitchen (and adjoining breakfast-room) is well-equipped with an extensive range of crockery and cooking utensils, hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and separate fridge-freezer, coffee-maker, toaster. Utility room with washer-dryer. Beautiful garden with fruit trees, lawns and flower beds. Patio and outdoor dining area with exterior lighting and a good range of garden furniture including a large circular wrought-iron table with parasol shade, folding gazebo and BBQ. All bed linen, towels, utilities inclusive. A travel-cot and 2 high-chairs are also available.
The house is situated in the Forest of Dean, right next to the forest, which offers a wealth of outdoor activities including mountain-biking (family trail with cycle hire 2 miles away), canoeing and kayaking on the river Wye (Symonds Yat 4 miles away), a high wire forest adventure course at 'Go Ape' (2 miles), horse-riding, as well as an extensive network of forest trails. The forest of Dean has been populated at least since Roman times and is of great historic interest retaining vestiges of its varied past as a centre for charcoal-burning, iron and coal mining and forestry. It represents one of the largest tracts of historic forest in England with many varied broad-leaved and coniferous trees - some of them hundreds of years old. The area abounds in wild-life; highlights include peregrine falcons, goshawks, deer and wild boar. In the Spring, the forest floor is carpeted in some areas with magnificent displays of bluebells and other wild flowers. Clearwell caves are within easy reach as are the atmospheric ruins of Tintern Abbey. A steam railway operates from Parkend, about 1.5 miles walk through the forest from the house. The nearest pub and shop are about 1/4 mile away. Chepstow and Gloucester are within 30 minutes' drive, while Bristol can be reached within 45 mins-1hr. The nearest main-line railway station is in Lydney, approx 3 miles away. Further afield, the attractions of S. Wales are within easy reach (Brecon Beacons National Park is about 1 hour's drive away).
  • Lovely location for exploring forest of dean. It was perfect house for families with children we had amazing time. Thank you

    Katerina2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house in a nice quiet area. We were 8 adults, 2 children and a baby staying for a family 60th birthday celebration weekend. The house was plenty big enough and the kids loved the table tennis room and piano in the lounge. Plenty of room for us all to sit and eat together every day and a very well equipped kitchen. Although the house is a little tired and could do with a few improvements, it made for a fabulous location for the weekend. If you got some better mattresses for the beds (they were very uncomfortable), we would definitely use the house again for another family gathering. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

    Kerry2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great big house in the forest of dean which is perfect for larger groups of people wanting to explore what the forest has to offer. Its well equipped to cater for large groups and has a great location.

    Peter2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • The house was as described and the pictures were a true representation. Very quick helpful responses from the host.

    Clare2017-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • The house was cosy and homely, the sofas were very comfortable and accommodating. The decor was slightly outdated but that doesn't take away from its appeal. The table tennis room was perfect! The kitchen was full of all the implements necessary to cook over the weekend. The local pubs in the area only accepted card, however it's easy to prepare for. And there is a tesco superstore with cheap petrol an 8 minute drive away. My only snags with the house would be the showers, one shower head kept falling off as it was cracked and hitting me on the head each time I showered. The TV also is quite old and the scart lead kept going showing a weird green glow across the TV screen when watching dvds. All in all I believe myself and all the guests enjoyed our stay there. Great home and value for money! I would stay there again! Thank you very much Dan! P.s. parking is also a nightmare if you have lots of cars!

    Natasha2018-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Good place for a large group to explore the forest of Dean and Wye Valley and relax in the evenings.

    Simon2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • The Whitehouse is a large old house with plenty of space for two families. The table tennis table is a bonus for older children which is what we needed. The house it's self could do with some updating but it has everything you need in the way of amenities. I would recommend this property for a short stay.

    Helen2017-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • The place is a real gem, located right near the Forest of Dean, not far from a bicycle rental place. It also helps that the town of Lydney is a short 5-10 minute drive away with a Tesco that's open till 10pm. The table tennis table is handy and the outside patio area serves as a great place for barbecues. The property is very spacious with 5 bedrooms, one with an ensuite and a shared bathroom on the first floor while the downstairs has a kitchen, living room, games room and toilet. It's a perfect property for a get together with family or friends!

  • We loved our stay with Michelle. The cottage is perfectly situated for walking in the Forest of Dean and equally handy for the village shop (5 min walk) and two great pubs that do excellent food. We ate in the Miners Arms another 20 mins away which was quite lively and good fun - excellent food too. Michelle's place was so inviting and comfortable. We had a great night's sleep both nights and felt very rested. The kitchen was very well equipped and we'd love to stay again.

  • A cosy, very well equipped holiday home, in a group of similar cottages in what used to be stables. Everything is well cared for and organised. Elaine was extremely helpful and welcoming, and our boys loved the play barn complete with bouncy castle, plus the enclosed football and games area. Lovely walks and cycles from the door; roll down the hill through the woods and you can ride the Dean Forest steam railway. The campsite here looked great, too, with fantastic views.

    Jackie2015-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was as described and expected, in some part even more. It has all the comfort and all the information you need are presented at hand including maps, activities and places to eat. It was a very good choice for our family of 5 and for family with kids in general. Elaine was there to welcome us and show the premises. During the stay we did not felt her presence at all, but I am sure that if needed she was there to help. As a suggestion because I had trouble finding the place when arrived I woud suggest having a sign when entering to Yorkley Wood Road.

    Eugen2016-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Elaine's cottage. Elaine is a wonderfully kind and thoughtful host. The cottage was huge and had all the necessary amenities. This cottage could easily accommodate a family of five. The couches and beds are comfy, and the kitchen is well equipped. We were surrounded by beautiful forests, populated with deer and the occasional wild boar. You could spend hours running or walking through the woods. We would highly recommend this place to our friends and family.

    Avi2015-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for a wonderful 3 nights. There are lots of things to do in the area for kids, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Tiggs Lodge was lovely and clean with all necessities that one needs. Thanks Elaine.

  • A clean & tidy cottage, with all the necessities & a well equipped kitchen. Plenty of space outdoors for the kids to play ( age 11, 9 & 6). Elaine & John opened the indoor play area for the kids to play pool! Lovely walks in the forest & also plenty of outdoor activities in the area, zip wire, cycle tracks etc.. Very central to Cardiff, Bath & Gloucester!

On the beautiful and historic Lydney Park Estate with lovely views of the surrounding countryside and the River Severn. The perfect country retreat. Only an hour's drive from Cardiff, Bristol, Gloucester and Cheltenham.
If you're looking for a quiet country get-away or somewhere to stay while you sample the many delights of the Cotswolds, then this the perfect location for you. The property is situated on Lydney Park Estate which holds glorious views of the surrounding countryside. As you drive through the estate you'll notice the deer grazing in the park. As well as the numerous pheasants that roam the estate and occasionally visit our garden. The property is a self-contained, spacious, first floor flat. Newly refurbished with one double-bedroom, bathroom and a fully furnished open plan kitchen and lounge. There's also a small garden should you wish to sit outside. The flat is attached to the Old Coach House, our family home. The building is over 200 years old and was originally used to house the carriages and drivers of the estates residents and guests. There's a great deal to do in the surrounding area, including: - Taurus Crafts (Collection of artisan businesses and craft workshops.) - Lydney Park Estate Gardens(open certain times in year) - Bathurst Open Air Pool (Opposite the Estate entrance) - Forest of Dean (Great for cycling and long walks!) -Bathurst Park -Lydney Harbour - Puzzlewood (Famous filming location for films such as Star Wars and Harry Potter) - Clearwell Caves - Beechenhurst Lodge (Perfect for family activities) - Chepstow Castle - Trips to Cheltenham for the races - Retail therapy in Cardiff - Clay Pigeon Shooting - Symonds Yat (A source of breathtaking views, beautiful walks and cannoeing down the River Wye) - Malvern Hills (Stunning views of surrounding counties along with numerous events and activities through out the year.) - Plenty of pubs and restaurants to sample.
The flat is on Lydney Park Estate which means your immediate neighbours will be your hosts. There are a few houses scattered on the estate but our closest neighbour is the Manor House. However the estate largely consists of farmland and countryside. The Estate Gardens and Roman Ruins are open to the public at certain times of the year. A 10 minute walk or 3 minute drive across the estate will lead you to Taurus Crafts. A collection of artisan businesses, craft workshops and cafe, there is also a wonderful farm shop that sells local produce. Located next door is the Garden Retreat Health and Beauty Centre that offers a range of beauty and holistic treatments. The Town of Lydney is within walking distance or a five minute drive with a Tesco, Co-op and local shops including the local pharmacy.
  • The flat is beautiful and comfortable. It has all you need to make yourself at home. The grounds are stunning. It's an extraordinary place to stay.

  • Debbie and Nick made us very welcome indeed, we were celebrating our 38th Wedding Anniversary and we arrived to a beautiful floral display and chocolates! The flat is spacious, with high ceilings and a great view out over the Severn Estuary. It's a peaceful location being on a Private Estate, but not too far from shops, restaurants and attractions such as Taurus Crafts (highly recommended). The flat is equipped should you wish to do some cooking, bottled Spring water is supplied for drinking by Debbie. The four poster bed has a comfortable mattress and we slept well. We took our bikes down with us so that we could enjoy the trails in the Forest of Dean and we were really pleased that Nick arranged for secure storage for them over our stay. The flat is very clean, Debbie also provided a few extras for us to have for breakfast should you arrive not having managed to get to the shops. I opted for baths as I did find the shower temperature a little difficult to regulate, Debbie supplied lots of fresh, soft towels and loo rolls. Debbie and Nick have put a lot of care into their Airbnb offer, they are there if you need them but are not intrusive if not needed. Debbie made a lovely recommendation for The Ugly Duckling restaurant in Lydney which offered good locally sourced food and was excellent value for money! We were very pleased with our decision to stay here.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Debbie and Nick's lovely apartment. We stayed with our two children and had a great time. The red deer and birds of prey in the vicinity and the pool at bottom of avenue all added to the whole experience. Such a peaceful spot. Bath, Bristol, the Cotswolds and Puzzlewood all within easy access. Debbie and Nick were very discreet hosts who managed to make us feel welcome without overpowering us, Apartment was spotless and wow such a house to be attached to! The fresh flowers and beautiful orchids didn't go unnoticed, lovely touches. Only small criticism would be the lack of a shower, we managed fine with the bath but a shower would have been most welcome. We absolutely loved our stay, we really did. Thank you so much. Troy and family.

  • My partner and I stayed here over the May bank holiday and we were delighted with the apartment. The furnishings and four poster bed were gorgeous and the views across the valley were amazing. The location was relaxed and perfect for a countryside retreat. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing get-away, especially if interested in the estate's famous gardens and roman ruins.

Dog friendly Luxury modern barn conversion on a quiet lane on Blakeney Hill with stunning forest walks on the doorstep. Cozy double bedroom with en-suite luxury wet room with bluetooth sound system, rain head shower and underfloor heating. Private elevated terrace with Patio dining/BBQ area leading to a full-size Jacuzzi with panoramic views across open countryside to the River Severn and Cotswold Hills.
Luxury barn conversion perfectly placed for a get away from it all break. Leave your car and enjoy a muddy forest walk on your doorstep before relaxing in your own private Jacuzzi with a view of the River Severn. Stunning both during the day or night. For the more active there is canoing the Wye, Hire Bikes on forest trails and many Welsh castles within easy reach. Tallet Cottage has every luxury you could desire :- Wet room with underfloor heating and bluetooth sound system, dishwasher, microwave, rapid use induction hob and extractor. The spacious lounge has a dining table, leather sofa and 40 inch LED TV.
Apart from the owners accommodation there is one other converted barn - Orchard Cottage. Apart from that the nearest neighbours are out of earshot. Blakeney Hill is an idyllic settlement of old forest houses mainly more than 200 years old south facing with views of the River Severn. The surrounding farmland is managed by a local collective, The Blakeney Hill Growers, established to bring neglected resources into use. For example, there are beehives in the adjacent field. We have recently sold our flock of hens so sadly no longer have fresh eggs available for guests. (As referred to in some feedback)
  • Lovley place, very quiet and peaceful location. Nice little touches to make you feel at home. Me and my partner has a very nice time, thankyou.

  • Tony's place was perfect for what we were looking for. It's a cute little cottage, with character but with a slight modern feel. The views from it are beautiful! The hot tub area is really nice- looks even better than the photos (in fact the whole place does!). It's easy to get to after just putting in the sat nav. We spent time in the cottage and then out and about on walks and visiting pubs! You can walk to some of the walking areas but we drove there- was very easy. We would recommend Tony's place!

    Kim2017-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the Tallet, Tony and Doreen have created a wonderful space to unwind. The cottage is really well equipped and full of lots of personnel touches which make all the difference. The cottage was absolutely immaculate in every sense. The hot tub was just fantastic elevated in the most lovely little decked terrace with stunning views across the Severn, completely private and secluded. The cottage is literally a stones throw from the town where you can find everything you need and the next town only a short drive for the bigger supermarkets. The most amazing Forrest walks just up the hill makes the place perfect for those with dogs too. Doreen gave us the most genuine of welcomes explaining how everything worked and where it was and although we knew if we needed her she was only in shouting distance we were left completely alone to enjoy our break. You really couldn't ask for more, ticked every box for us and would highly recommend both the cottage and the hosts to anyone. Hope to return, Simon & Jon

  • Stayed here for 2 nights and wish we could have stayed longer!! Tony and Doreen are the perfect hosts. They have loads of info and are always happy to help but they don’t bother you at all while you are there unless you ask for them. The area is beautiful, we went for a long walk in the forest and admired the view from the hills. The hot tub is the icing on the cake, at night it’s especially great with all the fairy lights. We can’t wait to return!

  • Lovely little place with everything you need. The Tallet was toasty warm when we gt there and the hot tub was a perfect way to end a chilly day, then we watched the beautiful winter sun rise from the terrace it was a wonderful weekend.

  • Two things are super important when you’re away from home, cleanliness and a good shower. This place was super clean and offers a bath and great quality shower, just what you need when you come back from long walks. The hospitality was spot on... fresh fluffy towels, a fresh bottle of milk, tea and coffee, and beautiful cosy dog bed waiting for your family pet was a really nice surprise. To top it all the views are spectacular and when greeted by the host, he gave us tips on dog friendly local pubs. Thanks we really enjoyed our stay!!

  • Ken and Sue are very welcoming and very friendly hosts. Their cosy and warm home was a delightful place to spend a night. The bedroom is lovely and also warm and ensuite. The bed is nice and firm too, we had a very good sleep. Breakfast was lovely and included home made bread and jam which was great. Ken and Sue had time for a chat and showed us round the horse paddocks. Excellent and highly recommended. We will return.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed my return to Treetops with is beautiful setting and tranquillity. I was warmly greeted by Ken and Sue, and the house was extremely clean and tidy. After a lengthy journey, it was lovely to relax in a cosy home with a warm shower and comfortable bed. Cooked breakfast was delicious, with the touch of homemade specialities such as Spice and Fruit loaf, and with Ken's sense of humour, made it very enjoyable. Ken and Sue couldn't do enough for me. They are certainly worldly people and very kind. I visited one of the local tourist attractions, 'Puzzle Wood'. It was an amazing experience to see where some of Star Wars was filmed. Also a walk in the Forest of Dean is a must to do on the list. Overall I had a very relaxing stay at Treetops, tucked away from the business of life. I will certainly return as often as I can. Thank you Ken and Sue for an amazing stay.

Nags Head Cottage is our cosy former 150 year old coach house set in the beautiful backdrop of the Forest of Dean. Nestled in the heart of the forest, with easy access for walking, cycling and even kayaking. The cottage is situated in a small hamlet in Parkend, walking distance to all amenities. Our guests love the location in a quiet village but close to local attractions such as the steam railway, Puzzlewood, and Symonds Yat. Sheep roam the streets freely & you may spot wild boar!
Dogs and muddy cyclists are welcome! The cottage backs onto the cycle trail in the Forest. It is great for serious MTB and downhill riding as well as leisure cyclists. There is immediate access onto the cycle path outside the cottage. There is a spacious 20' lounge with a Laura Ashley oak dining room table that seats 6. The fine Italian leather Marks and Spencer 3 piece suite is very comfortable. The original stone wall of the coach house is exposed providing a lovely feature with original beams in the bedrooms. Use the bluetooth speaker provided to stream your iPod/iphone. There is a smart tv so don't forget your Netflix password! Internet access through the smart TV. There is a DVD player which plays CDs and an Xbox360 - bring your own games. There are some DVDs provided along with some books and games for both children and adults. There is a 14' master bedroom, 12' second bedroom, bathroom with full size bath and electric shower over, kitchen with dishwasher, fridge, cooker, microwave and washing machine. There is a double bed in the master bedroom and 2 singles in the other. There is room for a travel cot or toddler bed - both available on request at extra cost. There is a good quality metal action sofa bed with a brand new deluxe sprung mattress bought Sept 17 in the lounge which is suitable for a short stay. The sofa bed is not a full size double. There is a 30' secure fenced garden, that includes the original Georgian walled garden. Wooden outdoor seating. Birds frequent the garden including the rare Haw Finch. We provide a selection of bird food and a reference book so that you can watch and identify the birds. We have a number of local maps for you to borrow setting out local bike and walking trails. A vintage 1950's Brexton bone china picnic set and wicker basket give the perfect excuse for a picnic down by the stream - ask and we can give directions to the perfect spot! Sleeps up to 6 if you use the sofa bed. Our guests tell us that the beds are really comfortable. We provide all consumables such as washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, washing powder for the washing machine, kitchen roll, toilet rolls etc. We do not provide linen. You will need to bring duvet covers, sheets, pillow cases, towels and tea towels.
The Forest of Dean is a beautiful woodland with endless activities. A Mecca for cyclists, bring your own bikes or hire from local shops. The cottage is next to the RSPB Nature Reserve, and there is direct access from the cottage onto the cycle path into the Forest of Dean. Wild boar and sheep roam the streets.
  • Lovely cosy cottage, easy access, great communication, we even got a Christmas card welcome. Thank you very much. x

  • Great accommodation in a fantastic setting and very close to a pub. Whilst the property isn’t massive the use of space made it seem much bigger than it was and plenty big enough for us (2 adults and 2 kids). Good communication from Debbie, easy to check in. Would definitely stay there again and recommend it.

  • Our weekend at Nags Head Cottage was a delight from start to finish. The cottage is ideally located for the main attractions that the Forest of Dean has to offer: the Family Cycle Trail is on your doorstep and it is only a 10 minute drive to Puzzlewood, Clearwell Caves, and Perrygrove Railway (for the little ones) amongst others. There is a pub literally next door, and many other decent pubs a short drive (or long walk) away. The cottage itself is very warm and welcoming, and we felt at home immediately. It's perfectly equipped to cook family meals for yourselves, if you don't fancy going out, and the beds were very comfy! Our little boy loved seeing all the birds feeding in the courtyard garden and it was perfectly safe for him to run around indoors and out. As a host, I found Debbie flawless: the communication was excellent and we were pleasantly surprised to be welcomed with a couple of lovely gifts (wine and honey)! Debbie and Simon kindly set up a toddler bed prior to our arrival, and I genuinely felt that nothing would have been too much trouble for them. Debbie even came round to say hello and see that everything was ok, which was a nice touch. All in all, we had a lovely weekend - I would strongly recommend the cottage and the hosts, and would not hesitate to stay again.

My place is close to parks, lovely forest walks, cycle paths, activity centres, craft centres, pubs and Interesting attractions. Many places to eat. You’ll love my place because of the downstairs bedroom and wet room, the cosiness of the log fire, the views, the location, the high ceilings and the (URL HIDDEN) place is good for couples and families (with kids) and for disabled people including wheelchair users.
The sitting room is large with a pitched ceiling and log burning stove for those winter evenings. Our downstairs and garden are completely accessible to wheelchair users. The cottage is surrounded by forest and there are lovely walks In all directions, perfect for well behaved dogs! The kitchen is well equipped for keen cooks and has a lowered worktop for wheelchair users or young cooks who want to help!
The cottage is in a very peaceful and quiet setting. The area has a very interesting agricultural and industrial history of which there are many remnants to visit. Puzzle wood was once Roman ironworks, Hopewell coal colliery still welcomes visitors, clear well caves was once the source of ochre used for painting and the Forestry Commission have done much to enhance their sites for visitors, including Go Ape and the Sculpture trail. The Speech house is now a hotel with good grub but was once the Verderers Courthouse.

  • The cottage suited our needs as six adults attending a wedding nearby. Gillian was quick to respond to initial questions, but unfortunately we were sent the wrong code to the key safe making it tricky to get in. Fortunately the hosts live next door so eventually came to help us. The beds were comfy and the sitting area nice. We never found matches to light the fire, and we could have done with more toilet paper and washing up liquid - particularly as all the pans needed washing before use as they had been left sticky, probably by previous guests. We couldn't use the grill. Being asked to bring your own towels seems an odd arrangement - you will also need to bring a hand towel for the bathroom. The kitchen had some tea and coffee, but you'll need to bring everything else - milk, oil for cooking, etc. The cottage fitted the bill as it was close to the wedding venue, was quiet and comfortable enough, but it's not somewhere we personally would choose to go for a holiday/break.

    Rachael2017-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • We were welcomed by Malcolm who gave us a tour of the cottage and explained where to find information etc. We went to Bream for a family party and the cottage was ideally situated for this. It is a short walk to the shop, pub etc and we noticed that buses go through the village. Whilst we were there the weather was cold but I think this would be a lovely spot in the summer. It is well placed for visiting the Forest of Dean. One of the drawbacks to the area is that there is limited mobile phone coverage which can make it difficult to contact people.

  • We loved the house and garden. Location was very central for visiting Forest of Dean which is gorgeus at this time of year with autumn leaves changing colour. The kitchen is well equiped thought e grill didnt seem to work for us. We only used it on the last morning so had to fry the bacon. Bedrooms were tastefully decorated and plenty of storage. We added some bedding layers under the sheets in the main bedroom to cusion the bedsprings. A topper would be perfect. Our guest s had no complaints though and we all loved our time there.

  • We've had a relaxing weekend at Lynda's house, which comfortably housed six of us! Lynda gave us very clear and detailed directions prior to our arrival. The house is very cosy, with a nicely laid out sitting area, a well-equipped kitchen and an amazing garden. Only a little far from shops but won't be a problem with a car. Would definitely recommend.

Nestled in the Forest of Dean. Cosily sleeps 2-4. No wifi. Welcome basket of goodies included. This pretty lodge overlooks Soudley Brook towards picturesque woodlands, farmlands and surrounding gardens. Guests have exclusive use of a delightful covered patio + all weather bbq area with lovely, countryside views. Best for couples or small groups of hikers, wildlife photographers, cyclists, canoeists, painters and anyone who'd enjoy a relaxing forest holiday. A super little secluded getaway.
In the middle of the Forest of Dean yet within an hour's drive of Cardiff, Newport, Bristol, Gloucester or Cheltenham. Basic but pleasantly cosy, this ground floor lodge looks towards wooded gardens, Soudley Brook and fields and woods where pheasants and wildlife abound. The bedroom has two single beds which can be pushed together and there is also a comfy sofabed in the lounge area with a curtained doorway between. There is a kitchen area, shower room and a woodburner which you probably won't need as oil central heating keeps the place nice and warm all year round. A great little spot from which to explore the Forest and relax and unwind, listening to the brook, birdsong and animals in the distance. It's probably a good idea to bring some groceries, although we provide complimentary tea, coffee, orange juice, milk, cake and cookies. No pub is within walking distance but a good local taxi service is based in a nearby village for trips to the many local attractions.
The Forest of Dean is an amazing holiday destination with lovely walks and plenty to see and do in the locality such as The Dean Forest Railway, Puzzlewood - which was the setting for some Star Wars filming, The Palace Cinema in Cinderford, (tickets still only £2.50 during the week), The Curry Leaf and Fern Ticket Restaurants in Cinderford, Clearwell Caves, Hopwell Colliery with its friendly Cafe, The Dean Heritage Centre, Soudley Ponds, Canoe Hire, Mallards Pike Lake, Symonds Yat for Pergrine Falcons and panoramic views and Nagshead Nature Reserve. Ross-on-Wye, Monmouth, Chepstow, Gloucester, Bristol and Cheltenham are easily reached by car and train for a day's shopping and sightseeing.
  • Such a peaceful place, Marion was super helpful from the beginning, including giving great tips on dog walks! The chiminea was a real bonus and lovely to sit outside and watch the sun go down. Would definitely recommend to others, as a lovely country retreat. Thank you Marion!

    Rowena2017-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • I had a wonderful eleven days here. It was everything I wanted and more (lots of things really thoughtfully provided, like the generous breakfast basket). I wanted somewhere quiet and comfortable that I could come back to after a day's painting and exploring the countryside, where I knew I would be left in peace. It was perfect and all I could hear was the brook down below and my dog sniffing around the orchard. Marion's house was down the path and she was so kind and helpful if you knocked for any reason but left you to be private. It was very well placed for exploring some really beautiful countryside, not just the Forest of Dean but also the Wye valley, the banks of the Severn, Herefordshire, the Cotswolds where I went several times, and Abergavenny. I can't recommend it strongly enough.

    Georgina2017-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • A great countryside get away. So peaceful and lovely to gaze over fields with sheep and cattle grazing. The house is compact and well equipped (we took groceries as shops are a couple of miles away) though there was milk juice and cereal available. We loved the outside porch area which is dry and sheltered, good for all year round as it has a comfy sofa, table and chairs a log burning stove and lovely views. There's plenty of walks locally and we took our dog who was very happy there. The house was simply and thoughtfully furnished, comfy, clean and homely. We want to return and explore a bit more - it was a great weekend - we particularly recommend it to those who like to escape from the hustle and bustle. Thank you to our host!

  • This is a fabulous place to stay in an amazing location. Although it is only a couple of miles away from shops, restaurants, etc, you feel you are in the middle of nowhere, in this lovely quiet valley with such great views. The cottage itself is cosy and comfortable and well equipped, with tv and wifi, shower, kitchen and heating. The beds are firm but comfy and you get a really great night's sleep as it is pitch black outside and there is no noise apart from the odd bit of wildlife. It's also all on one level i.e. No steps, which is a bonus for anyone who is a bit less mobile (or if like us you have an elderly dog that struggles with stairs!). The little touches like the welcome basket with juice and snacks and milk were really appreciated. We hope to return!

  • Beautiful cozy bungalow, visited with my parents, Marion was extremely helpful and friendly. Would recommend and would visit again!

    David2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • A small comfortable lodge set in tranquil seclusion. Ideal as a base for nature lovers and walkers. Amenities and furnishings are fairly basic but more than adequate. The controllable central heating does a fantastic job, probably due to the lodge’s small size, and I quickly found myself roasting by accident! As suggested in the listing, I would recommend having your own vehicle to get around as it is not possible to ‘just pop down to the shop’ on foot. However, be cautious driving down the narrow lane. It was so relaxing, standing outside on the balcony, listening to the brook below and the owls at night. Had some strange ‘barking’ squirrels in the day too!

    Freya2017-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning! The forest is right at the doorstep and hence you have some amazing views from the house during the day and the sound of flowing river and crickets during night. The house was very clean and tidy too and had every amenities- it was like camping but in luxury :) It was perfect for a close to nature break for us and there was also a ready to use BBQ and chimnea which kept us warm while sitting out and relaxing. Marion is wonderful and provided us perfect instructions to get to the place and she was also very patient with us for our later than expected check in as well. The beauty of the place left us longing it for more and we will definitely visit there again and this time for a longer break to explore the nearby areas.

  • What a great place, immaculate, warm and very homely. The cottage is stunning with great views. It is very well equipped, couldn't ask for more. The bedroom is upstairs and has the most comfortable bed..didn't want to get up in the mornings!! I can honestly say this cottage could not disappoint anyone. It is a real gem, the hosts Elaine and Gareth have done a superb job.. well done to you both. We would definitely return and recommend to our friends.

  • Platts House Cottage was an ideal location for visiting the area round The Forest of Dean. We were made most welcome by Elaine and found the cottage to be just what we needed - cosy and quiet. The rooms were bright and airy and the much appreciated warmth from the heating and the log burner made our stay all the more comfortable. There is absolutely loads to see in the area and the maps and booklets in the sideboard drawer made very interesting and stimulating reading. We were able to find sufficient walks, drives and places to visit that our time was suitably filled and has left us with more still to see when we return

  • We were made to feel very welcome by Elaine and her husband Gareth. The cottage was lovely - very clean and well appointed. The bara brith in the welcome pack was fantastic and kept me going strongly on my bike rides around the Forest of Dean.

  • Elaine's lovely little cottage was just what we needed as a break from busy city life. We booked very last minute (the morning of the trip!) and Elaine was so welcoming and communicative. We went for the weekend but only wish it could have been longer! The kitchen was very well equipped, wifi worked a dream and the bed was incredibly comfy. We loved the pub recommendation (Rising Sun) - amazing food! It was in a fab spot to drive over to the Forest of Dean and have a lovely sunshine walk & picnic (thanks Elaine for having foil & sandwich bags in the cottage). We took the Welshcakes Elaine had left us and ate them all - delicious fuel for our long forest walk! Thank you so much for having us Elaine, we will definitely be back soon :) Camille & Alexander xx

  • I can't say enough good things about Underdean Cottage! It was just what we were looking for in terms of a quiet and charming getaway, while still being close to major attractions like Bath and the Cotswolds (1 hour drive to each). If you're looking for something even closer, Tintern Abbey is only about 15-20 min away and there is another castle/Abbey in Chepstow that's even closer. There are also trails close to the cottage that are gorgeous! There are lots of flowers in bloom that you can see in the forests. Our hosts were amazing as well! They provided tips on things to see in the area and when we arrived, we had a batch of fresh homemade cookies to snack on. If you have a minute, make sure and look at the photo album on the coffee table with pictures of the renovation process! It makes you appreciate the cottage even more! We didn't want to leave by the end of our stay. It felt like our home away from home.

  • Staying in Chris and Beth's Lodge was like a dream! They went the extra mile to ensure we had everything we needed and even more. The Lodge is cosy, warm, stylish and so comfortable that we really felt at home. Despite the fact that is located next to the main road it's still quite. We enjoyed the board games and books but most of all sipping our hot tea in front of the log burner in the living room;nothing beats that after a day walking around the forest! We didn't have a car so we were a bit far from the heart of the forest and we couldn't explore as much as we wanted but we were there just for 2 days so we enjoyed the local walks around the area with stunning views of the valley.I would definitely rent a car next time as it's quite hard to get around by bus as they are running once an hour! Chris and Beth have been extremely kind and thoughtful during our stay and found the time in their busy schedule to give us a lift to the station! We were really spoiled! I would certainly recommend you all to stay in their lodge! Thanks again Chris and Beth, Silvia

  • Carolyn is a great host, there were lovely little gifts there for us when we arrived. We arrived late and it was easy to get access. We were looking for a nice relaxing getaway and we got just that, with the space on offer, my son had all the space to run around in the garden and with the selection of board games, We had plenty to do. 10 mins drive from the family cycle route in forest of Dean which is why we chose this area, so whilst a remote village, it was everything we wanted. Thanks again, see you next year.

  • Lovely long weekend staying at Greenfields, visiting friends who live in the area. Carolyn was a very helpful & friendly host. The place is spacious, clean & has everything you could need. As family travelling with two small children we were extremely grateful for travel cot, highchair, kids plates & brilliant selection of toys & books. The selection of beautiful different coloured eggs from their own hens were much admired too. As were the hens themselves! We hope to return. Would definitely recommend.

Everything was just perfect: your warm welcome, the fresh eggs from your free range chicken for breakfast and the fluffy self-made bread, the beautifully decorated rooms with all facilities one could wish for. A couple of pubs to eat at within five mins walk (take a torch), easy distance from the Forest of Dean cycle tracks (the Family Trail was a great intro), walkable to Puzzle Wood (got there at opening time and had the place to ourselves on a bit of a murky morning - very atmospheric). Took in Symond's Yat Rock and riverside walk on our way home (first ferry at 10.30am). Still plenty left to do for a return visit.

A charming private bedroom above a converted stable with ensuite. Ideal location for events at Berkeley Castle. Easy access to Cheltenham Racecourse. Access via spiral staircase only.
  • Frances was very flexible about our check in time, and we had received a very warm welcome. Everything about the flat was perfect and we can't wait to come back again and explore the area.

  • We were attending a wedding reception nearby and needed somewhere to stay nearby. Frances's place was perfect! A charming room (lovely outlook) with lots of character, everything you need for a very comfortable stay. Plus a lovely warm welcome. Thanks for having us Gill and Frances!

  • Frances's place was absolutely perfect! We stayed for one night after attending a wedding at Berkley castle. We were able to check in early which really helped us out and we loved the room. Everything was beautifully done and clean, and there were thoughtful touches such as a few bits in the fridge and notes to help us out. The bed was especially comfortable and we loved being able to make a hot drink - the soy milk pods in the fridge were especially appreciated!! Getting a taxi back from the castle was no problem and we would highly recommend staying here.

  • This was ideal for us as we had a wedding at Berkeley Castle, about 10 minute drive away. The local taxi charged us £25 return which we thought was reasonable. The room is lovely, clean and private. Lots of special touches like fresh fruits, cereal, orange juice, etc as well as toiletries. I had a cold and was relieved to find a packet of tissues!! Thank you!! The host was kind and flexible with our check in time allowing to come at 11:30 to drop off stuff before we went to wedding. Fully recommended x

  • Perfect venue for a romantic get away to nature. Well located to nearby cities (Gloucester and Bristol) and picturesque country villages. It's also a brilliant location for a cycling holiday. Frances made ever effort to ensure that the stay was as comfortable as possible, with fresh country milk in the fridge and breakfast options available in the room which was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. I'd highly recommend the Stables.

A cosy barn conversion with all the modern amenities required to make your holiday comfortable and enjoyable. Situated in its own grounds, accessed via a secure, gated driveway off the A48, this pretty, secluded and private property is the ideal location for some rest and relaxation. Wooden steps and a footbridge allow guests to enjoy the meandering Colne Brook which runs nearby. The property is situated just 2 miles from the Royal Forest of Dean.
With its own front and rear gardens, much of which is left uncultivated to encourage wildlife, the Barn is the perfect haven for animal and bird watchers alike. Buzzards frequently visit the area around the Barn and can be heard during the evenings calling to each other, along with owls and many other species of bird. Rabbits and badgers are in abundance and there are fish in the brook which runs nearby.
Opposite the Barn is the newly opened Swan House Tea Rooms and there are two pubs in the village of Alvington, The Globe Inn and The Blacksmiths Arms. There are another 2 pubs in Woolaston, The Netherend Inn and The Rising Sun and just down the road on the A48 is The Ghurka previously known as The Woolaston Inn, an Asian restaurant run by ex-Ghurka's
  • Absolute home from home with everything you need and more. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay with all local attractions and amenities on the doorstep. The garden is especially nice with the flowing brook and Kizzie the dog coming to play.

Sharpness is in a great location for both Bristol and Gloucester, each being only a 25 minute drive away. My home is located 10 minutes from the M5, giving great access, yet we are in a very quiet location with wonderful walks along the canal just minutes away.
