Kirche
“Founded in 1446, as the Collegiate Church of St Matthew, Rosslyn Chapel today attracts visitors from far and wide, drawn by its unique and mysterious carvings and the beauty of its setting. Rosslyn Chapel came to worldwide prominence through The Da Vinci Code, a novel written by Dan Brown, which was published in 2003. In the story, the main characters, Robert Langdon and Sophie Neveu, investigate a murder in the Louvre and, in doing so, follow a set of clues to unravel a mystery, taking them to London and then to Rosslyn Chapel. It is estimated that 81 million copies of the book have been published, making it one of the most popular of all time. In 2006, a film was made, based on the book. Most of the interior scenes of the Chapel were filmed here, and the main actors Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou, were on site for a few days. The Chapel is in the village of Roslin in Midlothian and is easily reached from Edinburgh or the Borders. There is a good bus service from Edinburgh city centre (Lothian service 37) and a number of tour companies offer trips to Rosslyn Chapel, leaving from the city centre.”

“Gorgeous walks that make you feel you’re in the country, short walk from my flat to get there. Some really interesting things to see such as the “steel man” who stands in the water in a couple of places. Also lovely to do a run here, if you want to do a bit of cardio! And completely free!”

“The Pentland Hills are known locally as “the lungs of Edinburgh”. I enjoy walking around Threpmuir reservoir and Harlaw reservoir. There are many other walks and trails in the Pentlands, mountain biking, fishing is also available but you may need to obtain a permit. There is a bird hide for those who like bird watching this is at Bavelaw Marsh (just past Balerno). There are other places to access the Pentland Hills and these include Flotterstone, Bonaly Country Park and Hill End Country Park. If you love skiing/snowboarding and can’t wait until the winter, there is Midlothian Snowsports Centre, Britain's biggest artificial ski slope set in the hillside of the Pentland Hills Regional Park, you can hire boots, skis and snowboards, lessons are also available.”

Schloss
“Craigmillar Castle is a ruined medieval castle in Edinburgh, Scotland. It is three miles (4.8 km) south-east of the city centre. It is best known for its association with Mary, Queen of Scots, who convalesced in the castle after an illness after the birth of her son, the future James VI in 1566. Enjoy views to the north over the city of Edinburgh from the castle ramparts.”
