“Drive South to the Santa Maria Valley and enjoy the panoramic views of the valley while you relax and drink up their subtle wines. ”

“If you’re up for a very scenic 20-minute drive to Los Alamos: Bob’s Bread… but go early on the weekends, it’s very popular. (Los Alamos is a fantastically funky little cowboy town often featured in Sunset Magazine. Allow time to stroll around the vintage shops and little galleries, as well as check out the Union Hotel - it’s been operating since 1880 when it really was cowboys on the range, packing pistols.)”

“When we moved to Los Alamos over twelve years ago, Flatbread, was one of the only spots in town. Back then this little gem in the rough was only open on weekends, but already had a reputation that spread to our Santa Barbara friends and beyond. Since then they have expanded their hours and their weekend specials are always worth a look. If you can’t decide, our old standby is the Pepperoni and Peppers, add sausage. Wood fired pizzas, including vegan and gluten free options, Sunday suppers (or anything on the specials list), and The Beast for dessert (not on the menu, just ask for it!).”

Theater
“Excellent live theater - there are two locations, one indoor theater in Santa Maria, and an outdoor theater in the cute Danish town of Solvang, 45 minutes south. The trip to Solvang is worth it and seeing a show at the outdoor PCPA theater is really special! ”

“Charlies is an icon of Los Alamos! The best damn burgers you will find, as well as the best biscuits and gravy for breakfast around! Eat on the patio as his place is very small. ”

Restaurant
“Located in the historic Los Alamos General Store, Pico (one of Wine Enthusiasts Top 100 Wine Restaurants 2 years in a row) boasts award winning food by Chef Drew, divine cocktails, and a rotating wine list that includes rare “Unicorn Flights”. We always bring first time Los Alamos visitors and order the whole menu family style (or as much as our stomachs will allow). They have fabulously curated special wine events; be sure to get your tickets in advance. ”

Lodging
“The rowdiest watering hole in town since the 1880s with a full bar, billiards, burgers and BBQ. The Union is a must visit in Los Alamos, even if it’s just for a drink. You feel like you step back in time when you walk through the door. Play a game of pool, mingle with the locals, have a stiff drink (they make a great whiskey sour), beer or a snack.”

“A beautiful winery tucked in the valley with an old church and picnic area. A great place to sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine, but it takes about 20 mins to get to from Santa Maria.”

“Closed Mondays. Rustic BBQ spot. Good for trip-tip sandwich, pastrami sandwich, ribs, and the "dummy" burger is a good little burger for sure! Often live music in the evenings and always sports on TV.”

“The Swiss Restaurant is close to our property and we frequent it often. My husband and I split their huge BBQ pork dinner (comes with two chops). We order an extra dinner plate so each of us can pick our own soup/salad and sides. Yum! ”
