Historische Stätte
“ No history buff’s trip to D.C. is complete without a visit to George Washington’s Mount Vernon. Home to our first president and his wife Martha, this expansive eighteenth-century estate is remarkable preserved. On what is still an impressive amount of land, you’ll find their stylishly appointed home, lovely gardens and grounds, and several historic outbuildings like a distillery and gristmill. It’s all been carefully preserved, and in some cases extensively restored, and it remains a fascinating look into the way wealthy Americans lived in the period. While this attraction is comprised of a few distinct buildings and does require some outside time, you’ll be able to spend the bulk of your experience in these lovely historic venues to avoid the rain.”

“This is a large OUTLET Mall. If you came to the USA to shop for discounted goods, then you may want to go to Potomac Mills. It will require a car to access as it is about an hour from DC. I am including this because some guests do want to go shopping at discount name brand stores. ”

“This is a great place to visit to learn more about the history of Southern Maryland and the marine life of the Chesapeake Bay. They have numerous exhibits and activities for children, including a fun event of toy boatbuilding! They host family events, concerts, and cruises on a wooden work boat or a sailing skipjack. The cruises run May thru October. Visit the website to find pricing and dates/times of all activities and the Museum Store hours.”

The best atmosphere on the island. CD Cafe / Next Door Lounge doesn’t really have a water view, but the chef’s creative menu makes up for it. ”

“During the Civil War Era, Point Lookout was first a hospital for wounded Union soldiers and then a Civil War prison camp for captured Confederate soldiers. In researching my ancestry I discovered that a relative of mine was held prisoner in the Civil War prison camp. The Point Lookout Lighthouse is considered the oldest of its type in the United States. It is said to be one of the most haunted in America. Call or visit the website for season and hours of operation. ”
