Temple
“Goa Gajah, or Elephant Cave, is located on the island of Bali near Ubud, in Indonesia. Built in the 9th century, it served as a sanctuary. Although the exact origins of the cave are uncertain, it is believed to have been built as place for spiritual meditation.[2] One folklore relates that it was created by the fingernail of the legendary giant Kebo Iwa. However, examining its style, the sanctuary was probably dated from the 11th century Bali Kingdom. The complex contains both Hindu and Buddhist imagery, as the cave contains lingam and yoni, symbol of Shiva, and the image of Ganesha, while by the river there are carved images of stupas and chattra, imagery of Buddhism. The cave was rediscovered by Dutch archaeologists in 1923, but the fountains and bathing pool were not discovered until 1954”

Park
“The Elephant Park is located in the Village of Taro, approximately half an hour’s drive north of Ubud. All the elephants were rescued from deforestation in central and southern Sumatra. The park is ideal for all the family and is open seven days a week. There are safari rides through Taro's jungles with riders perched in a teak chair on elephant back. After the trek, lunch is served at the park restaurant beside the elephant bathing lake after which everyone heads to the elephant arena for one of three daily shows. You can touch and hand-feed the elephants, watch the elephants bathing rituals, have photos taken with elephants, witness live educational shows and elephant painting.”

“A lovely late afternoon activity. In this little village you can watch the Herons come home to roost every single day of the year. From about 5 pm they fly across the sky from the West and settle in the trees. There are literally thousands of them and as legend has it, they are meant to be the reincarnation of the spirits of the dead people who died in a massacre during the anti-communist era in Indonesia. They did not come here prior to th 1960's. After the massacre, they start to show up. If you love nature and birds it is quite a phenomenia to witness so many wild birds coming into this small village”
