Old time country living amongst 200 year old Arizona Sycamore trees. Quiet, peaceful, beautiful light, clean air, fresh pure well water. Birdwatchers and artists paradise. Natural flowing creek on property as well as a Crystal Labyrinth. Nearby town Truth or Consequences has healing mineral baths, restaurants and galleries.
This is a separate space from the main house and situated 50 yards back towards the creek. You will have plenty of privacy and it is very quite.
  • Laverne and Ken were kind and accommodating hosts. The little house is adjacent to a beautiful bosque flanking the flowing stream of Animas Creek. The rural place is not fancy but is quiet and private, just what we wanted. I especially enjoyed the birdwatching in the area. I recommend it to nature lovers.

Built in the 1890s, the Sheriff Murphy house is a charming "Victorian" adobe home, with a wrap-around porch, two bedrooms, kitchen, a great room, and a large old-fashioned bath tub (w/shower). The fenced in yard is ringed with fruit trees.
This wonderful historic home has new owners, and a new listing at: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/23286246?s=51 The amenities have improved, as now the house has Wifi service, and also a new laundry room available for guest use. I will continue to help with guests as "co-host." Please see past guest reviews on this listing.
Hillsboro, New Mexico is an historic adobe village, dating from the 1880s, when it was at the county seat and center of the Black Range Mining district. It's now a small but active community of artists, writers, ranchers and other colorful characters. It's located where two branches of the pretty Percha Creek converge, and the tall trees that line Main Street, which is also NM 152, tap into the moisture flowing in the shallow aquifer. There is a great cafe, The General Store, a classic old Post Office, the Black Range Museum, Hillsboro Historical Society, a couple antique shops, and a Library/Community Center, which hosts monthly concerts and other community events. The cafe and library both offer free wi-fi. On Saturday mornings downtown, there is often local music and fresh local produce in season.
  • Cute little historical town. Enjoyed the view of the stars from the cemetery. We could even see the Milky Way! It was the night before the solar eclipse so there was no moon. It was nice to be "forced"to live without wifi and cell service. Those were the good old days. Really enjoyed the tub too!

  • What a great, historic place to stay. Catherine was very prompt in replies to our messages and she met us at the house to introduce herself and tell us a little about the history of the Sheriff's house. The house was built in the 1800s and still has that historic charm with a wrap around porch to enjoy. We woke up to 4 deer in the back yard! Hillsboro is a small enough town that we were able to take a self guided walking tour on Friday evening and visit the farmer's market on Saturday morning. We would definitely stay here again if we are in the area.

  • Wonderful old house! And the small town is just perfect for a get away from it all! Catherine had everything we need for cooking every meal at the house, the beds were so warm and comfortable and the tub was the cherry on top!

  • We had an amazing time at the Sheriff's House. This is one of my favorite towns in New Mexico. I fell in love with Hilsboro. The house was perfect for our small family. A great kitchen with lots of space for our daughter to play. We look forward to returning soon!

  • We are so glad we found Catherine's place in Hillsboro, New Mexico. Getting there was a scenic experience in itself, and the town is precious. The Sheriff's House holds so much history and charm; we felt privileged to be able to experience it in our small way. We watched a DVD provided by Catherine, and it was a great way to become acquainted with some of the more recent history and "characters" living in Hillsboro. We recommend it - it's about Sonny Hale, petroglyph photographer. The amenities are just right for enjoying a short or long stay, with ample space both inside and out. Our next stay will be a lot longer - we plan to unwind completely!

  • This was a neat old historic home out in a historic town. It was fun to stay at and a nice experience. It's a bit of a drive into the valley but it's in an area there isn't much else. If you want a quiet place to stay, this fits the bill. Catherine was an excellent host and gave us some suggestions on places to stop and made sure everything was ready for our arrival.

    Matt2017-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This property - in the heart of historic Hillsboro - is ideal for travelers exploring the Gila Wilderness and the Black Range Mountains. It's also a day trip from Las Cruces/White Sands National Monument. The house is charming and Catherine was a great host.

Located in the historic, serene and safe community of Hillsboro, New Mexico sits this lush jewel in the desert. This amazing 3+ acre property is located directly between Elephant Butte Lake and the Gila Wilderness. It is nestled more than 100 yards from the main road and is full of magnificent old cottonwoods, walnut and oak trees and also boasts asian pear, crab apple, plum and osage orange trees.
The home consists of a 900 sf, 75 yo adobe house w/ an open floor plan, 1 bdrm, 1 bath and wood burning fireplace. Bright New Mexico colors adorn the walls along with authentic New Mexico tile, wood beamed vega celings and NM accents throughout. It is completely enclosed by adobe walls and fencing, a 1/2 house, covered wrap-around porch and a beautiful enclosed back patio which is covered with trumpet vine most of the year. You will have three beds, and can sleep five people. Although it's advertised as a one bedroom, the bedroom is huge. The two beds are separated by a large partition (so it feels like two bedrooms). Percha creek runs through the property, creating a riparian area which is a birder's paradise and a multitude of other wildlife abounds year round. Deer, quail, roadrunners and javelinas are common visitors here. This area was once home to the Warm-Spring Apaches, where most likely, Geronimo and his people would have camped along this very creek. Highway 152 (the main road through town) is a very popular among cyclists from all around the world.
Very quiet, neighbors are nearby but I never see or hear them waaaaayyy back here :)

Cozy and romantic, this private guest house is situated on the bank of the Rio Grande River. The private flagstone patio has its own custom natural hot water mineral tub, which overlooks the rio and the sacred Turtleback Mountain. The home is located in the historic hot springs district of TorC, which has recently had much national media coverage due to its quirky retro atmosphere and the nearby future spaceport. While watching out the wall of windows in the Great Room, one can observe wildlife such as beavers, coyotes, raccoons, deer, and a never ending stream of migratory birds that use the Rio Grande as their super highway, while the Turtleback turns crimson in the late afternoon sun. This true adobe home is furnished with antiques, local art, and oriental rugs. The fully equipped kitchen, with copper farm sink and upgraded appliances is all you need to cook a gourmet meal with the world renown Hatch green chile. Hatch is only a half hour’s drive away. • The Casita was beautiful and hosts went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful trip! Highly recommend this location if you're looking for peace, quiet, and relaxation. The highlight of our trip was the mineral water hot tub and floating down the Rio Grande and walking to the Casita. What a wonderful place to stay!!

    Megan2017-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely perfect!! Honestly could have spent the entire trip at the casita, enjoying the view and the mineral tub. So much attention to detail! Will definitely be back!!!

  • Sally and Ken are wonderful hosts. The casita was way more than what we expected. Sally's decorating touches made us feel right at home. This is a great location if you want to relax and enjoy nature. The hot spring tub that over looks the river is just total relaxation. I would recommend the casita to anyone. We will definitely make more trips to stay with them I the future.

  • Casita del Rio was beyond expectation! It was clean, quiet and beautifully decorated inside and out. Amenities included a fully stocked kitchen, a spa- like bathroom and comfy bedroom. It also included a tv with satellite programming, a dvd player, and a stereo system with speakers on the deck outside so you could enjoy your favorite relaxing tunes while soaking in the mineral springs hot tub. The views were amazing! Desert landscaping, the most famous river in the Southwest outside of your back door (the Rio Grande), and an afternoon thunderstorms and a variety of wildlife accentuated this perfect relaxing, serene and much needed getaway.

    Paige2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Sally's home is a rare gem. What more could you want when staying in a town known for its hot springs than to have your own private hot spring on your patio? Perhaps a view of the Rio Grande River from your private hot spring? Well, it has that too! We expected to use Sally's home as a basecamp to explore the area; we ended up spending most of our time at our private spa. This is a unique and enchanting place.

    Chris2018-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful desert gem! The Casa Del Rio was the perfect relaxing getaway for our second wedding anniversary. Sally and Ken were kind a gracious hosts. The Casita was so beautiful! Such attention to detail when they were decorating. I couldn't help but feel like I was at home! The views of the river from the living room were fantastic. We loved waking up every morning and looking out the windows at the view of the mountains and water while sipping our coffee. The mineral spring hot tub was highlight as well. Every night we would fill up the tub and sip wine and look at the stars. It was so nice that our four legged friends were allowed to join us. Sally and Ken's dog was very nice as well and got along great with our lab and chihuahua. If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing, romantic vacation, look no further! Would recommend to anyone!

Take a walk along the beach, yes, the beach and swim in the warm desert water. Drive 20 minutes in the other direction and you will come across the enchanting and less trafficked, Caballo Lake. Take a detour and visit Spaceport America. Tours are offered from the Spaceport Visitor's Center located downtown. For the Buddhist in you, get your Puja on at Karma Jur Med Ling Dharma Center. This diamond in the desert is frequented by its Tibetan founder, Lama Karma Rinchen. Turner Ranches offers expedition tours at one of its two pristine ranches surrounding our county, the Ladder and Armendaris Ranch.
  • If you are looking for a serene, beautiful and cared for place to stay in Truth or Consequences this is it! It is very retreat like with lovely touches such as water welcome date balls (yummy!), coffee, tea and half and half! The kitchen is ready if you want to eat in and there is plenty of space to lounge, do yoga, work and rest. Excellent information about the town and things to do plus the passes to the Riverbend Hot Springs was a treat. Charlotte and Tim were around and easy to connect with. They have created a perfect place for rest and relaxation or whatever else you might be doing.

Historic Miller House is perched above town. All modern amenities. Comfortable for four, walk to great food, local winery & vineyard, antique store, museum, library, local music, historic sites. Short drive to mineral baths, Gila National Forest, Spaceport America, ghost towns. Quiet, great for writers, artists and deep thinkers.

Hike to Hillsboro Peak. Hillsboro is a cool little town, quiet, a great get away especially for creative folks. The house has really cool historical ties to movers and shakers in territorial New Mexico, the Victorio War and Geronimo campaign, the supreme court, Sheriff Pat Garrett, President Harding's Tea Pot Dome Scandal. For those reasons, and its most unusual architecture it's a New Mexico Cultural Property and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The home is made of lava-like iron silicate blocks, featured in New Mexico Magazine and the book, Houses in Time. Check out www rotation films com/documentary/88042 and http:// hillsborohistory. Expect quiet solitude. The house is on the mesa above town; your neighbors are the library, tennis and basketball court, a donkey at the Black Range Vineyard, Union Church, and the old county courthouse. Out the back door, cattle graze and mule deer browse. Javelina frequent town, too.
