"Nauvoo" understandably translates as "Beautiful." It is a renown place of fascinating history, presented through free and family-centered activities. We hope you plan on spending some quiet down-time in the cottage just to draw upon the peaceful persuasion of the place being on the wide, blue river. We have decorated our cottage as we have decorated our previous homes, with a Scandinavian touch. We hope you enjoy the heart-warming, cheerful, and fresh charm of the cottage. Valkommen!
We have plenty of woodland property for you to explore and make all the noise you want, and no other party will hear or notice. We consider our porch our first room, as it has an open view of the wide river right in front of you and plenty of seating. We also have a picnic table there, just outside the kitchen, and another picnic table is placed near the fire pit.
We are located adjacent to a scenic turn-out that offers a nice stroll along the river and picnic tables and invite you to discover "Shell Shore." This portion of the river is located above the only damn on the Mississippi River, and is the widest part of the river, even given the name of "Cooper Lake." You can watch long barges traveling up and down the river in the spring and summer and hear the distant sounds of the coal shoot and railroad across the river. In the fall and winter there are bald eagles who fish in the open area of the damn beside the next town downriver and many can be seen while taking a walk outside the cottage. There is so much to see in Historical Nauvoo, and the downtime in the cottage is just the right ending of a busy day and a cheerful and relaxing way to start a new morning. See the moon over the river in the middle of the night and the shining blue of the river when you sit up in bed in the morning. Again, Valkommen!
  • Beautiful home. Very secluded place right on the Mississippi with a great view. Perfect for a getaway.

  • Carol is awesome. She checked in with us throughout our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. The cottage is ADORABLE. And the view of the Mississippi River is beautiful. Watching the sunsets was a favorite for us to do. The home is maybe a 3 minute drive to Old Nauvoo. It's in a perfect spot! We had an amazing trip and can't wait to go back.

  • Beautiful location! The cottage is very cozy, it's kept very clean and organized. Grocery stores a short drive away so come prepared to enjoy the view!

  • What a lovely home! Has a gorgeous view of the Mississippi River, and is only a couple miles south of the historic sites. Open floor plan with lots of sitting and sleeping areas. Highly recommended.

  • This was an excellent location so close to Nauvoo. The views of the Mississippi river were wonderful. The house is clean and well-kept. Carol was great at keeping in touch with us and helping out wherever she could. We stayed with our seven kids and there was plenty of room for all of us. Our boys really loved the loft area.

    Derek2016-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Carol's Cottage for an entire week. We found it to be beautiful restful and exactly what we needed. The peacefulness of sitting on the porch and watching the Mississippi River Flow by added to our experience of visiting Nauvoo. Everything exceeded our expectations. We would highly recommend this location.

  • What a view! Nice, big home a stone's throw from the historic city. Be aware that the bathroom is on the first floor while the beds are on the second. Not a problem for us, but something to be aware of.

  • Carol is so nice to work with. Her house is fixed up and decorated beautifully! Great location close to Nauvoo and a beautiful view! Everything was well stocked and there is a nice washer and dryer! Great value and lots of places for people to sleep for large groups.

  • Georgette was prompt to reply and very pleasant, she takes great care of her property. This 1850's home is nicely restored and very well appointed. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are very clean. This is a mansion and well suited for a weekend getaway for a ladies outing or several couples.

  • There are TWO things that my family loved about staying here. The first is the house. And the second in Georgette! First, the house. Amazing. Gorgeous inside and comfortably modern with great air conditioning and modern bathrooms. The architecture on the house is fantastic. It’s like stepping back in time 150 years. We came here to attend the Nauvoo Pageant in Illinois. Nauvoo is only about 20–30 minutes away with a beautiful drive. Burlington has some fun restaurants too, and a few others that are nice between Burlington and Nauvoo in Fort Madison. The kitchen in the house is really nice with a grocery store just a couple blocks away for getting food to make nice meals. Our family rented the whole house for 3 days. The four bedrooms upstairs fit our family perfectly. Second, we loved Georgette. She is kind and conscientious—not only in the way she cares for the house, but the way she cares for her guests. We feel like we have a wonderful new friend in Burlington IA. Thanks!

  • This is a very spacious unit. There is tons of room and all of the furniture is super comfortable. It is also within walking distance of many local establishments. There are 2 balconies - we really enjoyed sitting out on them. We will stay here again if we're ever back in town!

  • This was a great place and very high quality furniture, beds and linens which made the stay awesome and felt like home. Jeff was super friendly and provided many suggestions for nearby things to do and restaurants. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. We absolutely loved this place!!

    Jennifer2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • A comfortable, roomy place to stay which is conveniently located. It made for a happy retreat for our family with 2 teenage boys. Jeff was easy to get a hold of with questions and he provided a wealth of information about Burlington for visitors.

  • Perfect location, very cozy!

  • Beautiful residence located smack-dab in the heart of historic Burlington along the Mississippi River. Right next door to a great restaurant and everything downtown is within walking distance.

    Christian2017-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Jeff's place was huge. While it is an upstairs apartment, it's two floors and as big as a house. The building is a bit older but the inside is great. Big kitchen, big living room, and very large bedrooms with huge bathrooms. I was just in Burlington a night but from Jeff's place it's very easy to walk right down the town's main road, Jefferson Street, to the little bars, cafes, and restaurants that the town offers. Also, the park along the Mississippi river is a short walk from the apartment as well. Burlington is a small town on the banks of the Mississippi and Jeff's place is a short walk from everything that you'd want to see in town.

    Mike2017-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Jeff's place was super clean, well stocked, and extremely spacious. It is in a great location with views of the river. It has easy access to restaurants and landmarks (snake alley). The brick interior walls are amazingly beautiful! It is well furnished with everything you need. Really felt like we were on a vacation with all the comforts of home. Jeff is a very good host. Easy access to the space and Jeff is quick to respond. We hope to stay here again.

  • We stayed here because we had a family reunion in Fort Madison. This place is a heavenly retreat, and Linda was a wonderful host. Lots of wildlife, and we really enjoyed listening to the frogs and watching the fireflies in the evening. Linda was highly responsive, accommodating and proactive. She accommodated the needs of my elderly parents, left us extremely well set up with food, snacks, linens and instructions etc. We couldn't have asked for more. Thank you, Linda! We had a wonderful and relaxing time.

    Genevieve2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely wonderful place! Solitude and the beauty of nature. We woke up to half a dozen humming birds at the feeders on the porch and the kids were mesmerized. Linda stocked the place with some great family-friendly snacks and drinks, breakfast foods, cookies, and made us feel right at home. She stayed in touch with us to make sure we were fine which we really appreciated. Kids loved it. We loved it. Wish we could have stayed longer to really enjoy the property! Definitely will tell friends about this if they head out that way.

  • Linda's place was one of the best Airbnb stays I think I've ever had. It couldn't have been any more clean, any more cozy, and the decor any more exciting and interesting. She really goes the extra mile to make sure you have everything you need and things you didn't think you needed or wanted. It really is a retreat. You'll feel pampered and relaxed staying here. Love, love, love Linda's place. If you're trying to decide between her's and somewhere else, Linda's will be worth any extra miles or dollars you're trying to save.

  • Linda we so thank you!!! I don't think words could do justice for how amazing our stay was at this cabin, but I will try! The cabin is even more than described!! So comfortable and quiet and any amenities one could want are provided. Our hosts were always available by text/phone and were sure to welcome us with baskets of goodies and texts of even more sharing their home items with us! We were simply in awe of the surroundings inside and outside the cabin and the extra mile our hosts took to make us feel like their home was ours. It was an excellent getaway for husband and I for our Anniversary. We would definatly stay again with or without kids or with a group of friends as there is plenty of very comfortable sleep space for many! The dvd selection and breakfast and snack options were perfect. The linens and extras provided are luxury and the bed was a dream to sleep on. The kitchen was well equipped for any meal and we enjoyed a night out intown at Atlas, suggested by our host, which had amazing food! Would love to explore Ft. Madison more! I just cannot say enough how luxurious and comfortable this cabin in the woods is. It will NOT dissapoint!

It was truly a special weekend, we will be back!

My place is good for families (with kids) and big groups.
  • The home is an old building from the 1840's which is pretty well preserved. There have been some additions on it over the years so it is pretty big. There are interesting books and pictures about Mormon History that we liked. This home is across the street from a beautiful park with playground and ball field. It is a bit north of the temple, perhaps a bit far to walk, but it is not up hill. My family of nine children, four children in law and eight grand children had a great time.

  • STAY HERE!!! We had 19 of us, ranging in age from 5 to adult, and it could have slept a few more. There are two really nice bedrooms upstairs which worried me a little going to an old farm house in a hot humid place but it felt VERY comfortable in those bed rooms. I wanted a place to sleep and eat breakfast, but I almost wish we would have planned one more day just to enjoy the farm house!

    Amberq2017-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • This place fits 20 people comfortably with the two pull out couches. The hot tub was clean and perfect temperature. We celebrated my birthday here with friends and it worked out perfectly. There's room in the back yard to set up some outdoor games. There's a propane grill provided. There's also a park across the street with a full size basketball court and baseball field. This is perfect for big groups! Greg was easy to communicate with and answered all my questions.

  • This lovely cottage is a perfect family retreat. Very comfortable. The loft was a kids favorite. The kitchen was well equipped for making and serving meals. There was a Crock-Pot, bread maker, and KitchenAid blender. We were able to leave a meal cooking in the Crock-Pot while we were sightseeing with our family. Cooking at the cottage was convenient for our vacation budget. It also had a lovely view of the Mississippi River. We saw beautiful sunsets. Sara responded quickly to our texts. She was a wonderful host. Fantastic price, it was like having a suite at the Marriott without the high price.

    Jennifer2017-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a charming cottage in a great location. There really is not much lodging in Nauvoo. This cottage is about 5-10 min drive from Historic Nauvoo. We felt the location was just fine and the price was good. The cottage was clean. Communication from the host was great. One thing to clarify.....this unit will sleep 6 max. This is a single room cottage - no bedrooms. The bed is in the corner of the room with a sofa sleeper, TV, and kitchen all in the same room. There is a small loft above the room that that has two twin beds. Talk to the host and get clear directions on how to find the cottage. We arrived to Nauvoo late in the evening and were lucky to find it in the dark. Cell service in Nauvoo is all-around weak. We have AT&T and had no service coverage in Nauvoo nor in the cottage. We would definitely stay here again. We had a good experience in Nauvoo.

    David2017-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Cute secluded place not far from Nauvoo. Clean for the most part but ants were all over the counter the first morning. Wifi didn't work. Biggest issue was host changed the price after we booked saying she made a mistake in the listing. I feel you should honor your advertised price.

    Lyla2017-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • I enjoyed my time at Emma's cottage immensely. In town for the Geode Festival, my friend and I had a much more comfortable spot to put our heads for the evening than we would have found at any hotel. We felt as though we were at home, which goes a long way for a couple of introverts. The area is scenic with a view from nearly all parts of the cottage of the Mighty Mississippi. Highly recommended for a smaller crowd of folks looking for a nice, quiet home. Parking is a bit tight, but I imagine those who don't drive gigantic 1986 GMC Vandura won't have a problem making a two point turn.

  • About 4.5 miles south of Nauvoo made it convenient for for meal breaks during touring Nauvoo. House says it will sleep six, but not comfortably. Four is more ideal. Make sure you can climb a wooden ladder to the loft for the two twin beds. Parking is minimal. House was musty smelling and hot. Window a/c kept the house cool after we turned it on upon arrival. Kitchen was fully furnished, except for paper towels.

  • We stayed in a daylight basement room with a shared bath, though the other room was not rented, so it was a private bath for us. The bath was lovely and Lynita placed a drying rack for the towels and washcloths-a great idea as there was plenty of space. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and had beautiful linens. Lynita made us great breakfasts and has shared some of her recipes with us! We found that the 15-20 minute drive to Burlington was not terribly onerous and when we came back, the country setting was a quiet respite from the rounds of visiting family and friends in town. Clayton and Lynita even gave us a tour of the farm. Living in an urban setting, it was fun to see the cows, chickens and ducks up close and the fireflies provided a beautiful light show which we've missed since leaving the Midwest. Lynita helped make the week a great vacation!

  • Rolling Green Acres was PERFECT for our family! Lynita went above and beyond to provide impeccable hospitality!! Thank you so much for a charming and comfortable stay!

  • Beautiful, comfortable room. Peaceful an quiet setting. Deicious breakfast. Lynita was vey kind and accommodating. We wll be back!

    Carole2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • As we were the only guests staying at Lynita's place, we had a great stay as we attended a family reunion in the area. If you like a made-to-order country breakfast that will fill your tummy before you leave - or simply a cup of coffee - and quiet surroundings, you may seriously consider this spot. Caution: it is somewhat remote and a bit difficult to pinpoint exactly if you are driving in the dark, but Lynita's directions got us there with only one tiny turn-around.

The Rufus Abbott Manor affords you the opportunity to stay in a Nauvoo Mormon Pioneer home! This historic home is just seven blocks from the temple and sleeps up to ten comfortably. Rufus Abbott started building this home in 1839 and finished it in 1845 just before his family left with Brigham Young to travel to Salt Lake City in February 1846. This home feels and looks like what it may have in the 1840’s thus letting you ‘Sleep Where the Pioneer’s Slept’.
The original pioneer brick home has three bedrooms (two upstairs) and an old fashioned parlor with library, collectible curio cabinet, historic fireplace and mantle, and a queen size sofa sleeper. A nice place to visit and converts to a bedroom with the pull-out sofa. The historic kitchen has the original fireplace where meals were cooked, in addition to modern appliances added to the other side of the kitchen. Adjacent to the kitchen is the windowed sun-porch overlooking the expansive yard where guests eat at the dining table. The sun porch also contains a breakfast bar with toaster and microwave for our guests. The master suite is on the main level in a 1903 addition to the original brick home. This large suite has a king size bed, full-size sofa sleeper, armoire, and 32” flat screen TV. Adjacent to it is the downstairs bathroom with shower/tub combination. Up the wide pioneer stairs are two bedrooms, each with queen-size beds and fireplaces, plus flat screen TVs for modern comfort. One has an antique dresser and armoire, plus a pioneer stairway to the attic where antique chairs and furnishings are stored away. This bedroom also has a cozy bathroom with tub/shower combination. Recent remodeling included new paint, rugs, and furnishings throughout this home. All utensils, dishware, linens, and towels are provided. A washer & dryer are also provided for guest use. High-speed internet is available as well. In addition to LDS and Nauvoo themed art, the home has a small library of books about Nauvoo and early LDS history, and antiques and collectibles for the ambiance of this pioneer home. In addition, very comfortable modern beds, appliances, and electronics provide a comfortable stay for your family while you “Sleep Where the Pioneer’s Slept”!
  • Loved the hospitality and breakfast food!

  • Great old home in a very quiet area. We loved the outdoor seating and grass for our kids to play in. Very easy to find and access the property with the check-in instructions.

  • We loved staying in this authentic pioneer home! The antique furnishings and homemade quilts made for a cozy feel. This home had all of the essentials to make for a nice stay. It looks very much like the pictures shown. The master bedroom on the main level, was spacious! I thought the king mattress was very comfortable, but my husband thought it was a little firm. It could use some better pillows, though. I liked having a couch in the master bedroom because our married kids would hang out and watch the ballgames with us in the evenings. TV, cable and internet worked fine. We reset the wifi a couple of times, but it seemed to solve the issue. The downstairs bathroom was sufficient. The two bedrooms upstairs are super cute! One of the bedrooms has its own bathroom. The other bedroom does not. That couple had to use the downstairs bathroom. Both couples who slept upstairs said they loved their beds and that they slept great! The kitchen and pantry was stocked with a great variety of food, which was helpful since there are no grocery stores in town and the only market was closed down. There is a pharmacy that has a few items, which is where we picked up some shampoo and conditioner and hand lotion, but it was very pricey. There is one gas station called Casey's general store, but it has very little, with regards to grocery store items. The location of this house is within minutes of everything. Grandpa Johns had yummy hamburgers. Betty's Apron served delicious sandwiches and the buffet at Hotel Nauvoo buffet was just OK.

  • Gleydy is a warm, welcoming live-in host for this quaint cottage. She knows much about historical Nauvoo and places to visit. Her quaint small home was period decorated and the shared bathroom had clawfoot tub, very nice! We arrived late with offer for her homemade soup, so sweet of her and she served a generous breakfast for us on the front porch. We had a nice stay and would recommend others experience Gleydy's home and hospitality.

    Patricia2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • It's such a cute place! Easy to find! Cute little place, and worth the trip :)

    Heather2017-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet place next to a quiet road. by a small quiet wooded lot.Not a lot of traffic on the road except farm equipment most of the time. It was close enough to downtown Navoo. The decor was old timely but the Bath tub was extra nice and deep just right for a good soak after a day of travel.

    Albert2017-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Gleydy is a delightful host. The home is cozy in a very quite area of Nauvoo. Gleydy provided a very nice breakfast and even fed us dinner. I would recommend your stay at her location. She will do everything within her power to help you have a nice stay.

    Bruce2017-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Loved staying here! If you want to get away from the noise and craziness of the city, look no further! Gleydy is so knowledgeable and incredibly kind and helpful. She really added to our stay and served us a delicious meal. Check out the winery just down the street! They offer a $5 special where you can do a tasting of ALL of their wines!

    Nat2017-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a break from the world, this is the perfect spot! Very quiet, peaceful, and lots of nature to soak up (there's a bird nest in a flower basket and you can hear the babies peeping at night!) The parking lot is on a very slight slope, so not suitable for trailers. Gleydy is very knowledgeable about the area and was a great host.

    Allison2017-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Gleydy is a Saint. She greeted and fed us (what a wonderful surprise) when we arrived kind of late, tired and feeling as a pioneer of the past would feel, She saw to our comfort and needs. Gleydy is a pioneer herself and surely shares the warmth and welcome and spirit of the "City Beautuful". We would return to stay with her again if we are ever again near Nauvoo.

    Phil2017-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a Bed and Breakfast of the old school variety. Gleydy, your host, is amazing. She is kind and generous. She knows the local schedules and gives the "insider secrets" to help you with the local shows and attractions. She provided meals we were not expecting. She made our trip more wonderful as we visited historical Nauvoo.

  • Just as described, cute and walking distance to temple which is reason we came to Nauvoo.

    Helen2017-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Simple house, peaceful location, walking distance from temple and shops. It was perfect for two couples. We had a great time on our trip, and the close proximity to Nauvoo made it ideal for a relaxing visit.

    Mark2017-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Location was fantastic. We were 4 adults and had sufficient room. I don't think I would have more than 4 adults living at one time in home as would be slightly crowded but doable. Communication was fantastic and was given instructions early on how to check in and we self checked in which was very easy and simple and nice. Could be slightly cleaner and a few repairs needed to be done but overall a fantastic place and can not beat the location. We very much enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

  • Great place and fantastic central location for a visit to Nauvoo.

    Lorin2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Communication communication communication. There was no communication from Stan, the host. He did not give me any information on how to get into the house we had to get it from the cleaning lady 2 hours after we were supposed to check-in. The house was trashed and the cots that are counted as beds were torn. I have never been more displeased with an Airbnb stay than here.

    DJ2017-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Expect the creaky doors and old wood of an old house, but the house is clean and cared for. So nice to have a kitchen ready to be used, dining table to make meals easier, and plenty of room for sleeping arrangements for our young family of eight to bunk in. We had a lot of fun visiting the temple in Nauvoo!

The Barnett Bungalow is only two blocks from the Nauvoo Temple, across the street from the Allyn House Gift Shop and close to all downtown stores, groceries and restaurants. The Barnett Bungalow is a perfect home for two small families, or one larger family. Even two couples would enjoy staying at this very convenient location.
There is comfortable wall-to-wall carpeting in the two bedrooms on the main floor, each with queen size beds. The living room and dining room have a hardwood floor, with a queen size sofa sleeper in the living room and an oak dining table and chairs for six, in addition to the drop-leaf kitchen table which seats four. The large main floor bathroom has a shower/tub combination, and vanity, in addition to the laundry behind bi-fold doors. Up the carpeted stairs to the children’s quarters, an attic great room with cable TV, full-size futon and four twin beds, plus a new bathroom with a shower/tub combination. Two cots and sleeping bags available for kids, plus a port-a-crib, if needed. Sleeps 12-14 people depending on age. All linens and towels are provided, plus a washer and dryer are available for guests use. Close to everything in town…walk to groceries, restaurants, shopping and the temple.
  • Great location!!

    Rachel2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • Overall, the Barnett Bungalow was an excellent place to stay with my elderly parents. With only a few stairs required to get into the house, access was not an issue given their slight mobility impairments. The front light is motion activated, and doesn't stay on very long, so when we came home after dark, I would stand on the porch and wave to keep the light on while they slowly walked up the front stairs. The air conditioning was a most welcome accommodation during a freakish fall heat wave. Temperatures were in the upper 90s and we were perfectly comfortable on both floors. We ran into some minor issues with internet access. The check-in instructions gave wireless signon instructions that didn't match the router. It was an unsecured network and connectivity frequently dropped and then came back on. Fortunately, we didn't really need sustained internet access for livestreaming or anything, or secure internet access for any transactions. However, any guest staying there who would need that might find the current configuration to be frustrating. We had plenty of room to spread out, and two full baths meant they had their own bathroom right off their bedroom and I stayed upstairs, where I had my own full bath. My parents reported that they slept well and their bed was very comfortable, and they are picky about mattresses! As I said, overall it was a wonderful experience!

Location, location, location! You can't stay closer to the Nauvoo Temple than the Hart House, across the street from the temple! This location has an unobstructed view of the temple, in addition to a panoramic view of the Mississippi River.

Off the kitchen is a sun porch with a table for four, offering a view of the garden in the back. Also located on the main floor is a half bath for the convenience of guests. There is a beautiful oak stairway from the living room, and a "servant's" stairway from the kitchen to the upstairs bedrooms. The two large bedrooms at the back of the home feature queen size beds and walk-in closets. The large master bedroom with a beautiful view of the temple, features a king size bed, walk-in closet, attached half bath, and a TV. The upstairs hall bathroom has a vanity, toilet and shower. There is no better location in Nauvoo for access to the shops, the temple, the Stake Center, the Pageant stage and the restored historical homes and buildings!
  • Great location and beautiful home. Lots of stairs so not good for handicap. Has two full baths and two half baths. Fun trip and lots to see and do. Tv in every room. Lots of books to read!

  • We really enjoyed our stay in the heart house. The location next to the temple is great and leaves you with a warm feeling. It is close to all the activities. The home is old but it was well taken care of and it was a fun place to stay. Other than some water pressure issues, the home was well maintained. We had no issues with check in or check out. Instructions were written in a binder and were simple to follow. If we are lucky enough to come to Nauvoo again we will probably stay here.

Within view of the Mississippi River and Old Nauvoo, The Ellis Sanders House is located close to the Nauvoo Temple. • The Sessions home is a beautifully updated pioneer home in Nauvoo. Located close enough to walk to many of the activities, but secluded enough that we had plenty of privacy. The home is well-equipped with everything we needed and then some. We visited with our two boys and booked the Garden Suite, which included a room with a queen & twin bed, & a pull-out couch downstairs. The bathroom is large and completely updated, & the half-bath downstairs is great for our boys to use (they showered in our bathroom). The home itself has a wonderful history, & it was fun to learn about that as well. Steve & Karen are kind, thoughtful hosts who went out of their way to make us comfortable. • The Ellis Sanders home was perfect for our visit to Nauvoo! Its historic charm and great location are enhanced by tasteful and comfortable modern updates. Steve and Karen are fantastic hosts and innkeepers! We were welcomed upon arrival and given a tour of the home, along with helpful information about both the home and other attractions and activities in and around Nauvoo. Steve was very attentive to our needs, and took great care to provide great breakfasts with multiple options, even when we were the only 2 guests in the home. Wifi was easily accessible and helpful. We were very pleased with the overall cleanliness and privacy of our accommodations, which included bedroom with comfortable queen bed, private bathroom and well-appointed parlor. This is a well-preserved 1840's home, with some resulting quirks. For us, the slightly steeper stairs and creaky original wood floors simply added to the charm and historic appeal. We look forward to visiting again!

  • Incredible opportunity to be among the original houses in Nauvoo. These old houses contain incredible energy and I felt like I was taken back a little into the 1800s time period. Our host was gracious enough to cook us some warm breakfast even though our family was leaving early the next morning. Blessings on this house that it may receive and welcome more travellers.

  • This home is charming! It was so cool to stay in an original Nauvoo brick home built by early members of the Latter-day Saints who settled the area! If you love immersing in a sense of history - you will love staying at this property. The home has modern additions that flow beautifully from the original structure. (ie: bathrooms, modern dining and kitchen) Though not all of the furnishings are period appropriate - they are aimed at comfort and do not detract. Beds and linens are soft and clean. (Including bath towels) The current host and hostess (Steve and Karen) were very kind and available to answer questions - yet, are very non-instrusive. We are hoping the property remain(URL HIDDEN)and that we will be able to stay here again in years to come!

  • This is a great place to stay. Location is wonderful. Also a plus to stay in an historic building. Steve provided a Hardy breakfast and good conversation. The floors are creaky, but it adds to the charm. Both rooms are on the second floor. The King suite is closest to the bathroom. Thanks for a great stay.

  • The Ellis Sanders House is amazing! Steve and Karen were warm and informative hosts, and breakfast was delicious. Our two young children were welcomed as well. The house itself is beautiful, and it's in easy walking distance of Historic Nauvoo. It backs out onto the state park, so it's very peaceful. Staying there was a highlight of our trip, and we couldn't recommend it more highly!

Located 1½ miles north of Keokuk, nestled on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, sits a quiet sanctuary waiting for you. There is a private bedroom with a queen bed and another sleeping area with two twin beds (with other sleeping options available), perfect for one person or a family. All are welcome! Relax, enjoy nature, and take advantage of our large backyard. Day trip options include Nauvoo, IL, Carthage, IL, and Hannibal, MO.
We allow dogs of all sizes (a crate is set up for your convenience), but due to host allergies, no cats can visit. We have two chihuahuas who have their own fenced in area on the side of the house (which is a good thing because they don't always get along well with other dogs).
  • This is a great air bnb!!! Great hosts and wonderful location/view. The place was very clean as well!!

  • This place is amazing! Highly, highly recommend. Gorgeous view of Mississipi, patio with endless hummingbird watching, impeccably furnished, and super clean.

  • This was the best Airbnb I have stayed at. David and Tammy’s place is beautiful, cozy, and has all the amenities you could ask for. I felt like I was at home. Since we come to this area frequently we will definitely be using them in the future! I highly recommend staying here.

    Hannah2017-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect getaway that my fiancé and I needed. We enjoyed the view and got to play some disc golf while we were in Keokuk. The movie collection is massive and the movie posters are really neat. David and Tammy were gracious enough to let us use the grill and everything turned out perfect. We will definitely be returning and will hopefully send some others their way to experience a one-of-a-kind sanctuary.

  • What a great stay we had at David and Tammy's place! My wife and I were in Keokuk for the weekend for the annual Geodefest. Their place was beautiful overlooking the Mississippi River with great sunrises every morning. The place was very nice, comfortable, and really private. And who doesn't love 7.1 surround theater sound while watching a late night movie? If ever in the Keokuk area, we would definitely recommend the Tree of Life River Retreat! Thanks again!

Banks of the Mississippi River . One of the most breathtaking views of the Nauvoo Temple. In this home enjoy watching the different water fowl and eagles from all views of the home. There is access to fish and relax by the fire pit on the bank.
Comfortable home with spectacular river views. The home.provides a relaxing atmosphere in and out. I. In the evening there is a fire pit with seating on the outside. There is an upper deck to enjoy eating outside. There is also a covered screen porch if outside is not your style. There is a lot to enjoy with this property.
The view of the river. It is one of the widest parts of the river and they way the home set offers a panaromic view of the channels. One of the best views in the area. Peaceful and quite area. The road is paved.
  • We had a great time. The house was nice and beds were comfy. The view was amazing across the river. We started with no air conditioning in the kitchen but that got added by the second day and was amazing! We didn't have any dishwasher soap so double check before filling the dishwasher but hand washing wasn't a big deal. We didn't eat there very much. We would stay there again.

    Joe2017-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • The house was great for our family of 6. The kids enjoyed being on the Mississippi River. The only problem was that there weren't a whole bunch of cooking pots and pans to make dinner with (we were trying to make pancakes, sausage, and eggs).

  • The Hebron Bend house was excellent. It was clean, accomodations were plentiful for multiple people and the host(s) were extremely responsive. There were two TV's and internet wifi access was provided. We used this for a company work trip and were extremely pleased with our choice. The location is very scenic, right on the Mississippi. We have no reservations recommending this house.

  • This place is great! A lovely, quiet neighborhood right on the Mississippi! Our group loved the quiet morning, as we enjoyed our coffees on the back porch watching the fog roll over the river. This place is very spacious, and a great price! We loved our time there and would recommend this location wholeheartedly!

  • This was truly a bed and breakfast in a beautiful and historic home. Judy was responsive and great. We were allowed to check in early, and were greeted with a smile, pleasant conversation, and treats. Our breakfast was wonderful and Judy had lots of tips of things to do while in town. We wouldn't hesistate visiting again. This is a great spot!

  • Me and my boyfriend had a very lovely stay at the B&B. The house is beautiful, Judy is very welcoming, and it takes a only a couple of minutes to walk to Jefferson Street. If I end up in Burlington again, I will definitely stay at Judy’s place.

    Suvi2017-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • What a phenomenal B&B. I cannot brag enough on this home and Judy! From the moment we parked on the side of the Countess I knew this was going to be a great weekend. The home is clean beyond expectation and each room (Judy gave us a tour) is spectacular.....I want to stay again in each room. Our room, The Grant, was comfortable and beautiful from the soft (clean) carpet that made me want to kick off my shoes and make myself at home to the hand sewn curtains and shower curtain. The bed was comfy and the room so spacious..... Breakfast each morning of our stay was hot and delicious consisting of an egg dish and fruit...day two with scones and lemon curd, sour cherry jam and cream YUM! Thank you Judy - Burlington Iowa is charming and your recommendations were perfect! We WILL be back for Tea!

This one bedroom loft that sits on a 44 acre lake, serves as a quiet retreat in the middle of IL farm country. Lake Linda is open to the public and for a $5 entrance fee, a customer is able to kayak, paddle boat, or fish in a rowboat. This loft apartment has a comfortable full size bed, DISH T.V., WiFi, full kitchen, and bathroom with a shower. This property is in a quiet community about 8 miles from historic Carthage, IL and approximately 25 miles from Nauvoo, IL or 25 miles from Macomb, IL.
The loft has been recently remodeled and is exceptionally clean. Below the loft is my wine making room. I live on Brooks Ranch, a farm that has been in our family for many generations. We have a small vineyard on the farm and therefore we process the grapes and the wine in the space below the loft.
My home is down a secluded lane nestled in the hardwoods with 2 other houses that are owned by family members. This community is very safe as throughout the day a variety of family members are keeping an eye on things. Because the area is so secluded it is a great escape for the hustle and bustle of the city.
  • If you enjoy the city and the hustle and bustle you are in the wrong place. Jennifer's barn loft is tucked away in a blanket of nature. There is a lovely lake to walk around and paddle through. Jennifer is an amazing hostess who is fun and attentive.

  • Jennifer's place will provide you with a comfortable apartment type experience with the peace/quiet and the beauty of a country retreat. We loved the serenity and rest it allowed us. The kitchen is very well equipped, should you want to cook, and the basic fixings for a good breakfast were right there. Jennifer was very friendly, helpful and considerate of our well being. Just the right kind of host. Staying with her again would certainly be our first choice if we are ever back in the Carthage area again.

  • This was a memorable trip and stay at Peg's home. Our two comfortable nights were relaxing in the spacious bedroom. The bed was wonderful and I slept better than in my own bed at home! Peg was very welcoming and we enjoyed a delicious breakfast each morning. Other great features include a terrific view of the mighty Mississippi and beautiful flowers. She was very accommodating, flexible and asked for our preferences making sure that we were comfortable. We'll definitely book another stay if our travels take us in her direction. Thanks, Peg

  • Pelican Pegs is the best kept secret on the Mississippi. Quaint, very clean, comfortable, inviting. Peg's is a front row seat to Mississippi River life. Tugs, barges, pelicans, and a beautiful view of one of the widest expanses of this beautiful river. Amazing. Peg helps you to feel very much at home.

  • Unfortunately, this trip was a little getaway for my mom who is 84. She was ill when I arrived to Iowa, and we had to cancel the trip. Peg was fabulous all throughout the process - making sure I had directions, explaining the setting and accommodations. Even her follow up after I had to contact her to cancel was great.
