V. Bukovac began painting, though it was not until the mid-1870s he decided to focus on art as a career. From 1877, he was living and studying in Paris.
His works were eclectic in style, and included Impressionist-inspired landscapes, but frequently focused around grand literary and religious scenes, nudes and portraits.
He returned to Croatia in 1893, Bukovac established himself at the centre of a new Croatian art scene. From 1898-1902, he based himself in his former childhood home, and converted it to a painting studio. After his death in 1922, the house was converted into a public atelier museum by his daughters. It reopened as part of the Museums and Galleries of Konavale in 2004.

Vlaho Bukovac House
5 BukovčevaV. Bukovac began painting, though it was not until the mid-1870s he decided to focus on art as a career. From 1877, he was living and studying in Paris.
His works were eclectic in style, and included Impressionist-inspired landscapes, but frequently focused around grand literary and religious scenes, nudes and portraits.
He returned to Croatia in 1893, Bukovac established himself at the centre of a new Croatian art scene. From 1898-1902, he based himself in his former childhood home, and converted it to a painting studio. After his death in 1922, the house was converted into a public atelier museum by his daughters. It reopened as part of the Museums and Galleries of Konavale in 2004.
The Collection of Baldo Bogišić in Cavtat was founded by his sister, Marija Bogišić-Pohl, in the years between 1909 and 1912. Bogišić’s library comprises approximately 15,000 books and brochures, around 200 journals, some newspapers, 66 incunabula, 164 manuscripts and 165 maps. The collected archival material is divided into 39 thematic units (mainly legal history, folk customs and literature, and Bogišić’s personal archives comprising a fairly rich correspondence numbering 10,092 units and 1,481 correspondents). Among the museum collections, particularly important are the following: a highly-valued collection of old prints (8,185 sheets dating from between 16th and 19th century).

St. Nicholas' church is right off the main street in Cavtat. It has a small, but quaint exterior. Inside is an oasis of calm with a beautiful altar. The church is free to enter. This is a place to spend a peaceful few minutes.

The small churches are exquisite ,representative of this area . Monastery dedicated to Our Lady of the Snow is situated right on the harbour & has retained its original features ,there are numerous recitals at night
