La basilica santuario di Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae è una basilica minore ed un santuario, così chiamata in quanto si trova all'estremità sud orientale della penisola italiana. Al suo interno è possibile osservare il quadro "Madonna con Bambino" dedicato proprio alla Madonna di Leuca. Sul lato destro dell'ingresso, un grosso masso monolitico è noto come "Ara a Minerva", testimonianza del fatto che in origine era posto un tempio pagano. Sul lato sinistro, è posta una targa in bronzo a commemorazione dell'equipaggio dell'incrociatore francese "Léon Gambetta", affondato a largo di Leuca. Sul viale che conduce alla basilica tra gli alberi della pineta, si trova la "Croce pietrina", in ricordo del passaggio di san Pietro. Due rampe di scale ognuna di 296 gradini collegano il santuario con il porto vecchio. Vennero costruite nel periodo fascista in occasione delle opere terminali dell'acquedotto. Le due scalinate sono separate da una cascata artificiale aperta solo in occasioni particolari. Guardando il mare dal piazzale antistante si puo` osservare il panorama mozzafiato dell'intero paese e trovare Punta Meliso, un promontorio dove, per convenzione culturale, è posto qui il confine tra Mar Adriatico e Mar Ionio, questo perché spesso è possibile osservare una linea fisica di demarcazione tra le correnti. In realtà le convenzioni nautiche pongono questa divisione a Punta Palascia ad Otranto. The Shrine Basilica of Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae is a minor basilica and a shrine, named so because it's located on the south end of the Italian peninsula. Inside you can see the picture "Madonna and Child" dedicated to the Madonna di Leuca. On the right side of the entrance, a big monolithic boulder is known as "Ara Minerva", reflecting the fact that it was originally placed a pagan temple. On the left side, it is placed a bronze plaque to commemorate the crew of the cruiser French "Léon Gambetta", sunk off the coast of Leuca. On the avenue leading to the basilica among the trees of the pine forest, there is the "Cross Pietrina", in memory of St. Peter's step. Two flights of stairs each of 296 steps connecting the sanctuary with the old port. They were built during the Fascist period and they represent the end of the aqueduct works. The two flight are separated by an artificial waterfall open only on special occasions. Watching the sea from the square in front of you can observe the breathtaking view of the entire village and find Punta Meliso, a promontory where, by cultural convention, is placed here on the border between the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea, this because it is often possible to observe a line physical demarcation between the currents.
