There are two restaurants with this name. The one indicated on the map is on the main drag Beltrones, and it is "dos" (or the second one) and I have never eaten there. The one we have eaten at is further down the same road, up over the hill towards the bay, and it is right at the bottom on the edge of a beautiful mangrove estuary (hence the name "esterito"). Here you can eat good, cheap seafood right on the waters edge while observing the wildlife of the mangrove estuary. If you prefer to cook your own fish you could buy fresh fish (the only place in town to do so) from the fishing co-operative of local fishermen on the other side of the estuary where all the pangas (boats) are located.

If you want an authentic experience of a Sonoran fishing village head up towards La Manga along a well maintained dirt road. Here you will find a couple of restaurants that are right on the beach that serve excellent cheap seafood. I know some do not serve alcoholic beverages, so if you feel like a beer with your seafood you will have to bring your own. These are family run businesses, and there are often kids running around. If you have little children this would be a great place for them to mingle and play with the locals while you enjoy dinner.

Drinks & Nightlife

This is a classic beach bar located on a beautiful sandy beach. with good food and drinks. There is always live music and the place is very popular with tourists and foreigners that live in San Carlos. Although it is a "bar", it is very kid friendly and it closes early (shortly after sunset).

Outdoor/Nature

This is a canyon in the Sierra Aguaje managed by an ejido as a natural reserve. There is plenty of parking, and with a 50 pesos entrance fee you can hike along a riparian habitat lined with native Mexican fan palms - a true oasis. Zip-lining across the ravine is also offered. For a hiking that is off the beaten path that will provide a perspective unlike anything you will find in "tourist brochures" check out the experience offered on Airbnb where you hike with a biologist!

Playa San Francisco is the largest beach of San Carlos, as it extends all the way to the Estero Soldado. This may be the best place to observe dolphins since a resident pod of bottlenose dolphins cruises up and down this beach. If you appreciate the marine environment, I recommend checking out the experience offered on Airbnb of snorkeling with a marine biologist!

There are two beaches here that are very popular with the Mexican locals. During the week you often be the only ones there, but on the weekends it will be packed! This is because there is a dirt road that provides easy access. At the beginning of the dirt road you could also buy "cocos locos" prepared any way you would like.
