Food Scene

Hidden away down a cut through between the shops is a fab vegetarian cafe. Try the breakfast its amazing and better than any other breakfast I have ever eaten! (Im not even vegetarian!) It opens at 10 am and has wifi so its a great place to chill if your on your way to the university (10 min walk) or exploring the independent shops and community of Newland Avenue.

Arts & Culture

It started as a touring theatre, from the back of a truck, hence the name! Now it is housed in a great threatre venue near the train station. Is part of the Hull furniture and has a history of producing plays by local playwrights that are full of nothern charm. More recently it has widened it portfolio, working with the RSC and supporting some brilliant young theatre companies (check out 'middle child' as one of these).

Sightseeing

As well as being a venue, its a great place to stop and have a picnic or a sandwich (If you forgot to bring one, pop to nibble cafe and get a 'budda box' or one of their amazing sausage rolls) Its a peaceful spot built inside an old dock on the mouth of the river Hull. It is a great vista for the River, the Humber and the amazing architecture of the Tidal Barrier, the Deep and the C4DI building. It is also on the way to the Humber street area which is fab.

Neighbourhoods

A unique and much loved residential area. take a look on maps at the amount of cafes restaurants bars and 24 hour supermarkets. Its near the university. busses run into town every 5 mins. But far more than convenience. its creative community is amazing. There are artists, djs, writers (look out for blue plaques on houses), academics and so many people doing work for good. You can find grass roots events, festivals and venues. Music venues like the Adelphi- a house converted into one of the best grassroots music venues in the uk. The Avenues community organise creative events like the advent calendar windows at christmas, open gardens, tree carving, regular recycling street events and they recently crowdfunded a restoration Victorian fountain that works..its just beautiful. There are now 3 beautiful victorian fountains. The area does its best to look after people. Its a conservation area with a heart and as a result its not sterile or wrapped in cotton wool, its beautiful and real.
