My absolute favourite pub and restaurant, anywhere. Totally unique, very relaxed, utterly charming, with an exciting seasonal menu, often foraged. Well worth the 20 min taxi / car journey.

Admittedly the food is formulaic and it gets slammed in the summer, but this is a smart pub with a spectacular setting on the Arun. A river walk (2 hrs) from The Hay Store will deliver you there!

A great cafe with a delicious, small seafood menu in an up and coming stony beach zone in Worthing; more relaxed and not as far to travel as Brighton. You can drive from The Hay Store in half hour. Park in the Splashpoint carpark just 1 minute from the cafe.

Great beach cafe on Littlehampton Beach front. Park at Littlehampton Wave (leisure centre) carpark then cross the road to the sea front. From here you walk all along the East Beach seafront to Littlehampton estuary and harbour.

There is a car park here on a high point of the South Downs Way. Enjoy stunning views without the need to climb Amberley Mount first! You can either follow the trail or do a short detour across fields to take a look at an abandoned Churchill MK11 tank, which was used for target practice in WWII.

Sadly the cafe is nothing to write home about, but this lake is free entry and is the gateway to great walks through the Norfolk Estate. Go over the hill then follow the river and you will find yourself back at The Hay Store around one and a half hours later!

This really interesting and authentic museum is right next door and a must if you are visiting with children - but take a picnic or eat at the The Bridge Inn next door as the cafe on site is not great quality. There is a mix of open air and indoor exhibits so is doable on a rainy day.
