New to the area and the first Ponti's outside London. The food is good but very pricy. In our view there are better Italian restaurants in Sheffield and Penistone, however this one is within walking distance.

Again you will need to drive to this pub but worth it. Great pub grub and some excellent local beers from the Bradfield Brewery. The road over to Bradfield takes you over into the next valley with the dams and lovely forest and moors scenery before decending into the village of Lower Bradfield.

OK The village itself is a monstrosity built post WWI in wood and replaced in the 60s with very austere and functional homes. However the scenery is STUNNING. There are two dams in the valley providing water to Sheffield. The Water Board have made a path round the dams to allow people to walk and enjoy the countryside. Lovely birdlife. The lower dam is easy walking and the length of the dam on one side has vehicular access with free parking. The upper dam has also got good road access to one side and a path which is less easily accessed around the other.

A short drive from the property are the Ladybower and Derwent dams. The Derwent was one of the practice dams for the Dambuster's Raid in WWII and has been the scene of many flyovers by the Battle of Britain Memorial flight's Lancasters. There are plenty of parking places nearby and the Northern arm of the Ladybower, linking with the Derwent, is very quiet. At the end of this arm lies Fairholmes Visitors' centre where bikes can be hired.

Edale is the beginning of the Pennine Way - a 268 mile (429 Km) National Walking Trail running from here to Kirk Yentholm near the Scottish Border. The first part of this takes the walker up onto the Kinder Scout Plateau. This is a good day trip and walk however you do need to be relatively fit and well equipped.

Out towards Manchester lies the Longdendale Trail. This is part of the Trans-Pennine trail and runs from Hull in the East to Liverpool in the West. It crosses the Pennine Way close to the car park on the map. At this part of the route the TPT is on the old Woodhead railway lines which are therefore relatively flat and easy walking. There are paths round all the reservoirs in the valley and this is worth a day trip if you enjoy walking. At the West end of the trail lie the villages Hadfield, Padfield and Glossop. Some may recognise scenery from the late 90s TV series "The League of Gentlemen" as it was used as the village of "Royston Vasey".

Bolsterstone is a small village next to Deepcar. It is at the top of the hill overlooking the valley. A footpath from opposite the property leads directly up to Bolsterstone. It's a 2 mile long walk and ALL up hill. However well worth the effort as the village, church, Walderslow monument, and pub are excellent. This is the point at which you enter the Peak District.

Shopping

I've called it a Mall but it is outdoors. Fox Valley was opened in late 2016. This year it will be the end of the Tour De Yorkshire. Built on the old marshaling yards and stock yards of the steel works it has been developed into a modern shopping area. Shops include famous names such as: Next, Sandersons, Timbuktu, SeaSalt, Greggs, Vape, Ponti's, Paperchase, Costa Coffee, Central Bean (NB this one is better). On Tuesdays and Fridays there is also an open-air market.

Sheffield is famous for the Meadowhall shopping and entertainment centre. This is a short drive down the M1 from the property. However it can be easily accessed via the Bus and Tram link which runs along the road directly in front of the property - an all day ticket is £4 and a family ticket can be purchased. Meadowhall has a food court and cinema as well as shops, loads of shops.
