Trujillo's spacious and spit-shined main square, surely the cleanest in the Americas and definitely one of the prettiest, hosts a colorful assembly of preserved colonial buildings and an impressive statue dedicate to work, the arts and liberty. ---- At 9 am on Sundays there is a flag-raising ceremony on the Plaza de Armas, complete, on special occasions, with parade, Caballos de Paso (parsing horses) and performances of the marinera (a typical coastal Peruvian dance involving much romantic waving of handkerchiefs).

(mains S24-48; from 6pm to 1am) This atmospheric spot is the only place in Trujillo to enjoy dinner (coupled with an amazing cocktail) on the 2nd-floor balcony; the wraparound number dates to the early 1800s. The food is upscale, featuring pasta and grills, and delicious. Antiques fuel the decor, from a 50s-era American cash register to an extraordinary industrial revolution pulley lamp from the UK.

“A very traditional place to try typical food.” This is a must in Trujillo. There is a traditional soup served only on MONDAY MORNINGS (Shambar). You can also find some local specialities, especially "frito" and "chicharones" they are both pork based dishes so vegitarians beware.
