My favorite restaurants

You've come to Norway see and experience the amazing Norwegian fjords and nature and realized that everything is expensive! Here are some spots that I frequent that won't break the bank but are delicious and are priced on the moderate ($$) to low ($) end.
$$ Celebrating an anniversary? Enjoy a meal in a relaxing, minimalist, and Scandinavian atmosphere/interior at this restaurant (now called Marg og Bein). Great service and amazing Scandinavian/British inspired cuisine.

$$ Bergen is not known to have South American restaurants but boy-oh-boy.... come here if you want to enjoy Peruvian inspired cuisine. The food is delicious and fairly priced for Bergen. I suggest you reserve a table in advance because the place is often full in the tiny, but cozy restaurant.

$ If you're exploring the Nordnes area on a nice sunny day, stop by this bar/cafe and enjoy a drink and/or meal/snack! This is hands down the best waterfront view in Bergen. It's a little bit hard to find, but worth a stop to rest your legs. There are not much tourist here as this is a local gem. Used to be an sardine factor now converted to a theatre/cafe-- Highly recommend having a drink here before/during sunset

$ Feeling adventurous and want to spend on the lower end of the price range? This is the best and most authentic Ethiopian restaurant in town (that was recommended to me by my local Ethiopians) that I personally love to frequent with family and friends. Best for groups of 2-4. Did I mention, this is a great place for vegetarians? You order with the intention to share the meal with your party, using just your hands! It's a fun and interesting experience to share. I highly recommend the shared injera platters and the grilled lamb/chicken.

$$ Itching to try Norwegian cuisine? This is your spot. Located by the UNESCO heritage site, Bryggen, stop by this restaurant for a conventional, traditional Norwegian meal of seafood and meat. It is located in a highly touristy area, with an traditional exterior and an interior that doesn't spoil the illusion. If you're feeling adventurous, you can try whale meat here (although I personally loved the mussels)

$ Hot and craving an ice cream? My favorite ice cream shop in town. Although a scoop is 40kr, it's well worth it. Interesting flavors such as basil (my fav!), Vietnamese coffee, skillingsbolle (Danish pastry), and Earl Gray. If you're hesitant about a flavor, don't be shy and ask for a sample!
