Sightseeing

Wear walking shoes! There are two ways up, in the park to the right, you climb up steep hills. This is really the best way up if you are doing a circuit. Be careful in wet weather and also stick to the trails. Take a hat, take water. It's a long way between fountains. For a gentler walk, turn left in the park and follow the tarmac road to the top.

The Hollywood Sign is one of LA's most famous landmarks and is one of the most recognized landmarks in the world. It may also be the only major landmark whose status was completely unintended. It was originally built in 1924 to promote the Hollywoodland real estate development in the foothills and canyons of Mt. Lee, a neighborhood now known as Beachwood Canyon. The best place to see the Hollywood Sign is at Griffith Park. There are multiple hiking trails on Mt. Hollywood leading from the back corner of the Observatory parking lot. The main Griffith Observatory hike leads to an advantageous spot that allows you to view the sign in comfort. Viewing from the Top of Hollywood and Highland ====================================== Depending on how the vending carts are stationed, you can sometimes get a first framed glimpse of the Hollywood Sign walking up the left side of the stairway from Hollywood Boulevard into the Babylon Courtyard at Hollywood & Highland shopping and entertainment complex. The view from the steps is sometimes blocked by the carts or umbrellas on the plaza, but that's ok since your best photo opportunities are from the viewing area at the back of the plaza or take the escalators up to the viewing bridges, where you can see the sign on the hillside above Hollywood. Weather conditions and smog affect visibility, but you're pretty close here, so even in rain or fog, you can usually make out the sign. There are coin operated telescopes to get a closer look, so don't forget your quarters. Another good spot is to go to Lake Hollywood Dog park and you can have a gentle walk up the street to get a great view of the sign. Be careful of parking restrictions!

Love the beach? Hate crowds? Want affordable parking? Spend a couple of hours on the beach, watch the boats sail in and out of the harbour and enjoy clean sandy beaches! A short ride away from Venice, if you have a car, I’d recommend this place. Set your satnav for the parking on via marina, marina del Ray.
