Restaurants

There are many good restaurants in Umbria and some few bad ones too. The restantaurant scene is very dynamic, things change all the time. This is a selection of the restaurants we normally go to and are good value for money. Umbrian cuisine is simple but with amazing flavours. Pork meat, mushrooms and truffles are one of their main ingredients.

A significant appeal of this restaurant is its vast wine selection – 450 variations, to be precise. The food menu is equally as impressive and presents detailed dishes carefully selected for the unique textures and tastes of the ingredients. The interior itself has a modern yet authentic charm, embracing the building’s former use as a factory for repairing balances and scales. Exposed metal pipes and wooden roof beams line the space, which creates a level of fascination for the historical background of the building.

These are a list of towns and cities that we love to visit when we are in Umbria. Some of them are a bit far way from the house, others are quite close to the house where we go regularly. The property is near the Umbria/Tuscany border so we have also included towns in Tuscany that we love. There are many more places we would like to mention, but we understand your time in limited. You can easily spend 3 weeks visiting different locations in Umbria and just across its borders.

The village is very small, about fifty stone houses pegged on the side of the hill that stands above them, forming a natural amphitheater. Houses immersed in the woods and crossed by narrow streets and streams of pure water. The waters of the village are in fact fed by the sources of the Menotre rive. Wander through its streets, let yourself be guided by the harmonious sound of the channels that flow between the houses and then widen themselves to form beautiful basins

One of the most beautiful hilltown in Italy. 6 km south of Lake Trasimeno. It is where, in 217 BC, Hannibal was making a name for himself by ambushing Roman legions along the banks. Over 15,000 legionnaires died, and the Romans were not pleased. Today, the natives are over their loss and welcome visitors with open arms. While Panicale was likely inhabited since Etruscan times, it was a medieval castle built on the peak of the hill that formed the city into what you see today. The town's narrow roads form concentric ovals around the Piazza Podesta at the hill's peak, as a defensive measure when they were built.

Although there is evidence of Neolithic remains in the area, the first historical document we know of is dated 600 b.c. where Nequinum is mentioned. In 299 we know the town as Narnia, a Roman colony. The name comes from the nearby Nar river, which is called the Nera today. Narni rose in importance with the construction of the Via Flaminia from Rome to Rimini. In the 12th and 14th century Narni became part of the Papal State and developed an important school of painting and goldsmiths.
