Must visit places in Manali

If you are visiting Manali, then here's a list of my favorite places to visit in Manali.
A beautiful 3-tiered 466 year old temple dedicated to Hidimbi Devi, Bhima's wife from the famous Indian Epic, Mahabharata. The temple is located in a serene Deodar forest. It is a must visit for first time travelers visiting Manali.

Great place for kids and adults alike to play and have fun under the massive Deodar trees. There is also a small pond with paddle boating option that kids will love. It is located near the lower end of mall road opposite yak hotel.

Great place for shopping, specially if you like jewellery, woollens, bags and boho items. There are many cafés here. Our favourite is The lazy dog (nice riverside seating), Rockys (amazing view of Vashishth) and Chocolate Chip Cookies at Dylan's. You can also visit the Manu temple which gave this town it’s name, Manali.

Skip the maddening crowds and enjoy a walk down the serene nature trail under hundreds of towering Deodar trees. The Nature park has two entrances, one near Rambaug chowk on mall road and the other near the old Manali bridge. If you start from the Old Manali bridge end, it is a pleasant walk downhill along a paved pathway to the mall road. Don't forget to check out the last of the beautiful Monals in the small zoo in the nature park.

Go on an ATV bike ride to the ancient Anjani Mahadev temple in Solang valley. The steps from the temple lead up to the beautiful Shivling which is right under the stunning waterfall.

A trip to Manali is incomplete without a visit to this 13050 ft high mountain pass around 45 kms from our place in manali and 52 kms from the mall road. Tourists are allowed to visit the pass between mid-may and mid-October after which the pass is closed for winter. In May & June be prepared for 4-8 hour long traffic jams on this road. If you plan to jump into the snow, rent a snow dress for Rs.250/-from the scores of small shops lined along the Rohtang highway, to keep dry and warm. Don't forget to charge your camera & carry extra memory!

Naggar Castle is a stunning stone and wood castle, the seat of the Kullu rulers for 1400 years. The elevated castle overlooks the Beas and rewards you with stunning view of the valley's all around. The German bakery right next door serves delicious lemon/chocolate/walnut cakes and coffee!

An engineering marvel that took 10 years to construct is a must visit. As we exit into Lahaul from the north portal of the tunnel, the incredible beauty of the Chandra valley stuns one and all. Tunnel is closed for maintenance between 11am and 12 noon daily, please plan your visit accordingly.

On the Manali-Naggar road, a small board on the left will direct you to the quaint Sajjla village a 100 meters ahead with a small temple. From here the beautiful trek to Sajjla waterfall starts. Walking along a small manmade canal lined with water lillies is an experience you will cherish. It takes 15 minutes to reach the glorious waterfall.

A lovely 1 hour hike takes you to this incredible waterfall in Manali. There are 2 routes, one from Vashishth and the other from Bahang post office. We recommend the 2nd route. On a sunny day you can see rainbows formed across the waterfall and in the water pool. A must visit for adventure lovers. Carry water, some eats/juice and waterproof jacket. It gets cold at the falls.
