The Community and Surrounding Areas

Location - Plaisance Park is a residential community located in south Trinidad, in the seat of the oil belt. It is a 2 minute drive from Cara Suites at Claxton Bay, and could be accessed from either of two (2) entrances from the Southern Main Road: (1) opposite the Plaisance Park Industrial Estate, just past Varma Iron and Steel Co. Ltd., Claxton Bay; or (2) further south, opposite Trinidad Contractors Ltd. Plaisance Park is 45-50 minutes from the capital city, Port of Spain. Also, it is about 5 minutes from the Pointe-a-Pierre oil refinery and the Point-a-Pierre Wild fowl Trust; and 12 minutes away from San Fernando, further south. The community can be very easily accessed by car via the Uriah Butler Highway, the Sir Solomon Highway and the Southern Main Road. Community Features - Plaisance Park is a national bird sanctuary that has several nature and hiking trails. Historically, the community's growth followed the path of development of the Pointe a Pierre oil refinery, with housing being provided for employees of the oil company. The community has remained a peaceful residential one, even with some residents offering home-based business services like food catering and car rental, which visitors could enjoy.
San Fernando in south Trinidad is the second largest city. It is a bustling city with numerous businesses, shopping malls, stores, health care services, restaurants, entertainment spots, schools, religious centres, private and state run services. San Fernando is a hub, with a network of transportation routes providing access to all other parts of the country. Also, on a week day, persons could park their cars near Kings Wharf and travel in comfort from San Fernando to Port of Spain return, via the "Water Taxi" service. This relaxing catamaran ride takes an hour or less and helps commuters to avoid roadway traffic, especially during rush hours and rainy weather, when there might be a chance of roads being flooded.
