Borough Market has a tremendous buzz to it, and a huge selection of upmarket cheeses, vegetables, spices, pastries, pickles and meats for you to sample. There are few places in London like it!

Borough Market may be where you visit to buy food, but the Mercato is one of the trendiest places you can go to eat! It's a series of local warehouses converted into one of the hippest areas south of the river: dozens of food stalls serving international cuisines, bars, a niche cinema and an incredibly lively atmosphere. That said, there's no reserve seating and it can be much harder to seat larger groups together, especially on Friday and Saturday nights..!

Padella is a restaurant of superb reputation in south London, and is arguably one of the better places to grab a few Italian plates in London. That said, the popularity is such that there are often long queues to get seated - so don't count on it being a quick meal on a busy night!

Fish! is a consistently solid bet for a local meal out: food prices are mid-market for London, but the quality is high and the atmosphere classy. It's certainly a solid combination if you're looking for a quality lunch out after visiting Borough Market.

Good Lord, you've never had a pancake so good. For all your morning needs, this place is perfect for your weekend brunch or morning after - and, superbly, they offer a selection of gluten-free and vegan options! A real rarity: expect long queues, but it's absolutely worth the wait.

Pubs

As The Roebuck is your very nearest pub, you're in luck - it's a hit pub for the area, often with a great evening atmosphere and a very solid selection of beers and drinks. It also serves food - the menu is always enticing but, as a local, I'd say that it's a second-rate choice with so many good restaurants in Southwark!

Sightseeing

The Tate Modern one of the world's top art galleries. Converted from one of London's old power plants, you can now see any number of artworks from the modern art scene: not just famous works by Rothko, Dali and Picasso (etc), but any number of lesser-known contemporary artists causing a stir. You're only about fifteen minutes' walk away!

The Globe Theatre hosts the most accomplished Shakespearean actors to be found in the world, and is only fifteen minutes' away. The venue is small, but tickets are often available at late notice and at a surprisingly affordable price - especially if you are willing to stand. Just be aware that longer productions can turn into a marathon when not sat - especially in the summer heat!
