Check out the deers that belong to the royal Dutch family. They roam free in restricted area separated by a moat around the park. Take a walk in The Hague Woods ("Haagse Bos") afterwards. The Central Station is just next door.

Walk around the biggest open air market in Europe. Sample different types of food - from poffertjes (mini pancakes), herring, Surinam roti, Carribean snacks and more. Bring home some fresh fruits for some Vitamin C. Tram 6/11/12 stops at Haagse Markt.

Food scene

After trying many different herring stalls around the Netherlands, this one is hands-down the best one I've ever had. Both local's and tourist's favourite. Despite tourists' visits, they remain consistent in the quality of their product. 1. Ask for cured herring (or "haring" in Dutch) with onions and pickles. Tip your head up, drop the herring into your mouth. That's the authentic way of trying herring for the first time. 2. Ask for "kibbeling", fried cod fish, with any sauce you like on the side. Garlic sauce never fails me.

Very good Thai food for the picky foodies. They only serve mango sticky rice when the mango meets their standard. That says something about them. Try their fried dish with basil. It's my favourite.

Epic mole sauce. This place serves quite good tacos with well-made tortillas. The style is quite authentic, and far ahead of other Tex-Mex places in town.

Best way to travel with public transport in NL

- Get OV travel card at main train stations in Amsterdam, Schiphol airport or The Hague. If you cannot find the ticket counter, please check at tourist information center at the train station for directions. - You'll need to pay base cost for the card and administrative fee for the purchase. - Prepare cash in case they don't accept your credit card. - Load up credits as you go. You don't want to have too much credit leftover and not knowing when you'll be back again.

Bring cash just in case...

Tourist attractions and major departments stores may accept credit cards. Most places outside of tourist areas don't accept credit card payments. Locals usually pay cashless by local-issued debit card. From my experience, even European-issued debit card may not work. But you can always try. So, bring enough cash just in case all your cards are denied.
