If you love great sushi, this is the place to go....
There are two locations, this one is the newest but their recipes are that same as the downtown Lafayette location. My favorite is the Chocolate Sandwich Cookie, the petit-fours, and the frozen meat pies you can pick up and bring home to bake.

Poupart's Bakery is a classic French bakery. Their pastries and cakes are incredible! My favorite is the Dobash cake - thin layers of cake with chocolate in between and iced with chocolate - sinfully rich!

Great Cajun eatery with boiled seafood as well as a full seafood menu - the food is consistently good.

Great little neighborhood Italian restaurant with wine, etc AND also makes an incredible pizza! Order the Carnivore with extra cheese and add shrimp! TO DIE FOR! Very close to my place! Located in Sugar Mill Pond - the pond is adjacent to the restaurant and features a walking path and open area for enjoying the outdoors. I've never seen them super busy but it is always good to call before you go.

Funky and Bohemian - Check their schedule but weekends are usually lively - its covered but "open air" so if its hot wear shorts and t's and if its cold wear layers because you just might start dancing and if you do, you will work up some heat.

Best boudin and cracklin around. Its a meat market and a grocery that we locals drive out of our way for. Recipe for a Cajun breakfast is a 6 pack of beer and a pound of boudin. And for an appetizer, a 1/4 pound of cracklins.

This Farmer's Market in the middle of Lafayette is located in Lafayette's newly acquired park who everyone calls the Horse Farm. There is a local Cajun jam session on the first Saturday of each month with local musicians.

Sightseeing
A living history museum and folklife park of the Acadian, Native American and Creole people from the time period 1765 to 1890. Check with the park - there are guided tours, demonstrations by local artisans on a variety of crafts performed by the early settlers, live music events, and a restaurant. It takes about an hour and a half to tour the grounds and the 7 restored original homes in the park. Longer if you watch the demonstrations, etc.

Bring your fishing pole - there are bass, sac-a-lait (perch) and bream. If you would rather ride, you can go on one of the swamp tours. Along the same road is the Cypress Island Preserve with a boardwalk and a rookery - especially recommended from March through June when the birds are rearing their young. Probably the most accessible and tourist friendly swamp you can view.
