A Busy bustling area for visitors and locals alike. Pleasure boats and fishing boats bobbing about. You can catch a pleasure boat, or take a boat trip to go fishing for the day. There are whale watching boat trips to see whales & dolphins and even a pirate ship where you can join those pesky pirates getting up to no good!!! If your sea legs are not so good you can try a bit of crabbing from the quayside. Always popular with families. (bacon for bait is good) Pop the crabs back afterwards (they enjoy their daily ration of bacon.) Or you could just wander along the Quayside taking in the sites and smells and maybe treat yourself to an ice cream.

Another quaint fishing village accessed by a steep hill. You can walk the coastal path from Whitby to here. (there is a bus service if you only want to walk one way) Explore the rock pools, walk the beach, enjoy the quirky little streets and imagine the smugglers of old hiding in the shadows. Stop off for refreshments in the numerous bars and cafes then peruse the shops. There is an interesting little museum here run on a voluntary basis.

A walk up the 199 steps to the Abbey. (don't lose count!)

The views at the top of the coastline and the town are wonderful and not to be missed. (you can get a tour bus to the top if you cant manage the 199 steps) Imagine Count Dracula and his dog bounding up the same steps as he came from ashore from the shipwreck! and then frighten the kids silly with a trip to the Dracula experience on the harbour side in town.

Car parks are free during the winter

Whitby is still popular during the Autumn and winter and it is an excellent time to visit. Everywhere is still open but the town is quieter once the children have gone back to school. It is my favourite time to visit.
