City/town information

This small fishing town is the place to be for eating fresh fish, sun bathing, swimming and hiking in the Ria Formosa Natural Park. You can take the ferry to the island and enjoy your day there. You can either rent a beach umbrella and beach chair or walk along the sea and get away from the crowds. You can also learn how to Stand Up Paddle or learn to Kite Surf. If you prefer to sunbathe and relax, make sure you buy a refreshing drink at Barraquinha do Saldanha. When you take the ferry back to shore, there are lots of nice restaurant to have lunch or dinner. Fuseta has a small beach that you can easily access, without taking the ferry. It is very child friendly and with Borda D’Agua it has a great beach bar for drinks and light lunches and dinners.

The city of Olhão is a bustling, old fishing town. Especially the old part of town has beautiful buildings with the typical Portuguese tiles and small narrow streets. We recommend that you take a walk through the narrow streets and feel this particular Portuguese vibe! Olhão’s market hall was designed by the famous architect ‘senhor’ Eiffel, you know, the one from the tower in Paris. At this market you can find fresh products every morning (except Sunday) and on Saturday the market is even bigger with more stalls outside.

The village of Moncarapacho is small, but has a lovely square near the church. On this square you will find a few restaurants for a nice lunch or dinner and a souvenir shop. On the main street there are two different banks with an ATM, a few bakeries to drink a coffee with lovely Portuguese cake or the famous pastéis de nata and Antonio’s Restaurant offers different lunches every day and has a good atmosphere at night. It's a 30 minute walk from Oásis Azul via a scenic route.

Nice beach

Praia do Barril Beach is our favourite beach. You can walk or take the little train to get there and walk left or right to enjoy many kilometers of amazing beach. There is a naturist beach as well (walk 1,5 km to the right when entering the beach). Afterwards it is nice to order a smoothie at Barril Beach Cafe or eat lunch/dinner at Museo do Atum.
