Excellent Laotian food. Fun, relaxed atmosphere. Definitely recommend a reservation. If you do not have one, the Bhavana bar is right next door! You can enjoy a drink and appetizer if there is a wait.

Best Chinese restaurant. If you like authentic Chinese food, this is an excellent choice. They specialize in Szechuan style food and are located within 10 minutes of the RDU airport. Our favorite dishes include Salt & Pepper Pork Ribs, Chong Qing Spicy Chicken (boneless), Eggplant, Green Beans (a must!), and Baby Bok Choy with Shitaki Mushrooms.
C&T Wok

Yum. This is one of our top pizza places (tied for first with Trophy, but very different). If you enjoy thick, chewy crusts and delicious toppings, this is an excellent choice! We recommend asking for marinara sauce to dip your crust in. Enjoy!

Largest park in Raleigh. Plenty of hiking and biking trails. You could spend days back in here.

There are several places to go hiking, rent kayaks/canoes/paddle boards etc. We have made an afternoon of going to Jordan Lake - lots of fun! There are a few beach areas on the lake, as well!

The Duke Gardens are a 30-40 minute drive from our home, but they are definitely worth exploring. There are different gardens at the location - all extremely scenic and beautiful. This would be a great place to walk for hours or find a quiet place to read.

In my opinion (Chris) this is the best beer in the area. A little bit of a drive but well worth it! There is also a groupon that includes a six pack of beer and a tour. Great place to enjoy a cool summer evening.

Outdoor shopping mall with chain and local shops. This is a beautiful area close to N.C. State's campus and less than 10 minutes from the Lake Johnson Getaway (by car). There are lots of restaurant choices in this area, as well.

We visit this place weekly! Great people. Great produce. There is a covered area of the farmer's market, a breakfast/brunch restaurant, and market shoppes. Depending on the season you visit, spring and summer bring flowers and several plant stands in addition to produce, bakeries, and bouquets. Fall brings giant pumpkins and mums for miles*! (*not actually for miles, but there are a lot of mums!)
Be sure to go to Sugar Loaf Orchards, they have the best apples there!
