Charlevoix the Beautiful is worth spending an entire day at in order to experience all the town has to offer. Stroll the beaches, the parks, the downtown, the neighborhoods. It's all there. It's all beautiful and it's hard to leave.

A small town with a lot of history, Bachmann's Variety Store turn of the century five and dime with an old fashioned candy counter, Adam's Madams with stylish clothing, home accessories, nautical themed items, artwork and books, plus Central Lake Pharmacy with their own selection of beautiful jewelry and novelties, Mammoth Brewery, Classic Pizza, a fudge shop, Touch of Class which is a small diner with a great salad bar, Village Market grocery store...and of course beautiful Intermediate Lake with pavilion and public beach right there at Thurston Park.

Central Lake
A small town with a lot of history, Bachmann's Variety Store turn of the century five and dime with an old fashioned candy counter, Adam's Madams with stylish clothing, home accessories, nautical themed items, artwork and books, plus Central Lake Pharmacy with their own selection of beautiful jewelry and novelties, Mammoth Brewery, Classic Pizza, a fudge shop, Touch of Class which is a small diner with a great salad bar, Village Market grocery store...and of course beautiful Intermediate Lake with pavilion and public beach right there at Thurston Park.
A walk through Bellaire (the county seat) and it's many unique shops and fine eateries, especially the cobb salad at Toonie's or the buffalo chicken salad at the Bellaire Bar, makes for a nice day trip when combined with either Central Lake or Alden.

Food scene
The Barrel Back Restaurant is located on the shores of Walloon Lake and if you don't feel the vacation vibe here with it's tiki type atmosphere and the winds blowing off Walloon Lake you are missing everything that makes this restaurant worth the trip. My favorite is the ribs but everything else is worth trying as well.

Barrel Back Restaurant
4069 M-75The Barrel Back Restaurant is located on the shores of Walloon Lake and if you don't feel the vacation vibe here with it's tiki type atmosphere and the winds blowing off Walloon Lake you are missing everything that makes this restaurant worth the trip. My favorite is the ribs but everything else is worth trying as well.
The Pelican's Nest at The Chief Golf Course at Shanty Creek features a tiki type atmosphere but overlooks the beautiful rolling hills and woods this area is famous for. the Chief Golf Course is a target course but well worth it if you want an entirely different golfing experience. Relax at the out door bar or inside in the sports type atmosphere. Big bang shrimp is my absolute favorite!!

The Gold Nugget Bar & Grill is located just four miles north of The Guest House and Pine In in the tiny town of Ellsworth. Good food, lunch and nightly specials, Friday night fish fry and a hometown atmosphere are what you will find here.

Located in Bellaire about fifteen miles from The Guest House and Pine In this sports bar has excellent bar food and a sports type atmosphere. The buffalo chicken salad is a favorite and if they make top notch salads you can only imagine how good the rest of the food is. Bellaire Theatre is just across the street if you want to take in a movie.

So you want to eat at a place overlooking Bay Harbor on Lake Michigan and Knot Just A Bar is just the place. Drink 69 beers and you will earn a place for your name on the ceiling or walls. It's a great atmosphere and their perch is the best.

What a great local place to eat just six miles from The Guest House and the Pine In in the small town of Central Lake. Nightly specials, an outside porch, downstairs pub, full glassed in porch and my favorite...big bang shrimp. You must eat here at least once!

If you golf one course in the area The Chief has to be it. Yes, it is somewhat of a target course but it's the sheer beauty of the course itself that will take your breath away and test both your skills and your temper. Rolling hills, dense woods, private paths, wooden bridges, sheer rock walls, and deer and fox crossing right in front of you make this place a wonderland of rich experiences you will never forget. Complete your round at the outside tiki bar with friends. It's just a good place to be!!!
