Parks & Nature
Denali National Park is one of the crown jewels of the National Park System. Drive your own vehicle as far as Savage River, or hop on a park bus to explore the park beyond the river. See grizzly bears, black bears, moose, caribou, wolves. Denali National Park is a two and a half hour drive from Talkeetna.

Beautiful state park offering hiking trails (Kesugi Ridge is my favorite) and a lake for paddling (canoe rentals available on the shore of Byers Lake). If you walk the lakeshore trail to the other side of Byers Lake, you get great views of Denali on a clear day. If you climb Kesugi Ridge, the panorama of Denali National Park is stunning. Denali State Park is an hour and a half drive from Talkeetna on the way to Denali National Park.

Denali State Park
Beautiful state park offering hiking trails (Kesugi Ridge is my favorite) and a lake for paddling (canoe rentals available on the shore of Byers Lake). If you walk the lakeshore trail to the other side of Byers Lake, you get great views of Denali on a clear day. If you climb Kesugi Ridge, the panorama of Denali National Park is stunning. Denali State Park is an hour and a half drive from Talkeetna on the way to Denali National Park.
Christiansen Lake is a local park within walking distance from the cabin. Sit at the shoreline and watch floatplanes land and takeoff! A mile further afield is X-Y Lakes, a fantastic local park with easy hiking/mountain biking trails encircling a network of lakes. Two free canoes are often available on the shoreline. Bring your own paddle!

Christiansen Lake is a local park within walking distance from the cabin. Sit at the shoreline and watch floatplanes land and takeoff! A mile further afield is X-Y Lakes, a fantastic local park with easy hiking/mountain biking trails encircling a network of lakes. Two free canoes are often available on the shoreline. Bring your own paddle!

Nagley's is the tiny general store on Main Street. It sells limited groceries at high prices. As a cheaper option, hit the much-larger Cubby's Marketplace at the junction of the Parks Highway and the Talkeetna Spur Road as you're coming into town (14 miles out from downtown).
