The Voortrekker Monument was erected to commemorate the centenary of the Great Trek when Dutch and German pioneers from the Cape of Good Hope travelled by ox-wagon to the northern parts of South Africa; A series of maps at the museum chart the most important migratory patterns in the history of Southern Africa. The focus is on the lifestyles of the Voortrekkers, as well as life after the Great Trek (1835-1852).
Fort Schanskop can also be seen from the Voortrekker Monument.

Eeufees Road The Voortrekker Monument was erected to commemorate the centenary of the Great Trek when Dutch and German pioneers from the Cape of Good Hope travelled by ox-wagon to the northern parts of South Africa; A series of maps at the museum chart the most important migratory patterns in the history of Southern Africa. The foundation was laid in 1910, with the cornerstone being laid on November 26 of the same year; The massive building was completed in November 1913 at a cost of £1180 000; At the time it was built, it was the largest building project in South Africa; The Union Buildings are the administrative headquarters of the government and stand majestically on Meintjieskop, overlooking Pretoria; On the grounds are the Delvillle Wood War Memorials, a tribute to South African troops who died during the First World War, and statues of South Africa's first prime ministers.

Some 220 000 years ago a blazing stony meteorite the size of half a football field slammed into the earth`s crust. The impact formed a crater, 1,4 km in diameter and 200 m deep. This crater is situated 40 km to the northwest of Pretoria. It is one of the best-preserved terrestrial meteorite impact craters anywhere in the world. Tswaing, meaning Place of Salt in Setswana, is a 1946-hectare conservation area. It borders on the Winterveld and Soshanguve settlements.

The Rietvlei Nature Reserve is 3 800 ha of endangered Bankenveld grassland including open plains and undulating hills. The extensive vlei areas and tributary streams support the scenic splendour of the Rietvlei Dam. Open spaces and a little wildlife to be viewed from your vehicle, as walking is not allowed in the reserve, unless a guided walk is booked. Game includes blesbuck, black wildebeest, red hartebeest, eland, Burchell's zebra, waterbuck, reedbuck, springbuck, mountain reedbuck, steenbuck and grey duiker.
